Shedeur Sanders - 2023-25 Tracking History Thread - Drafted by the Cleveland Browns (NFL)

Hearing a take this morning where the talking head was basing his argument around "How many 3rd string quarterbacks are giving quotes?" as if that's Shedeur's problem. I mean, he's surrounded by reporters trying to get quotes from him and the talking heads have been talking about Shedeur for a week. But this same media doesn't like him because he's getting attention in excess of his NFL status? Weird.
The Cleveland media is trash.

ss is in danger of getting kaepernick'd. this should have been obvious to him after the draft. is it fair? hell no, but it is what it is. this is where a really good agent would be incredibly helpful to him. a lot of times life is about playing the game. the kid is behind the 8 ball and under a microscope. he's gotta do it the nfl way if he wants to be a qb in the league, then he can be himself. right now he is on the fast track to be the Tom Brady of the cfl. he does have one ace in his pocket, he plays for the most incompetent franchise in the nfl. who the hell gives their rookie qb their first start on the road in London? any competent franchise would wait a couple of weeks until that home game against the 'fins. dg is gong to be absolute garbage but their going to give him way to many starts to prove it. ss will get his chance.

I think it's closer to the Tebow situation than Kap.

He draws more attention and creates more drama than a team wants to deal with from a backup QB. If he's not the man, he's probably a negative for your football operations.

Then I think that a HC is going to be stubborn about inserting the guy because he's not going to want the perception that he was pressured into it or the reality of the power dynamic of whether he or the rookie QB is drawing more water. And Shedeur's not going to be shutting down his media (social & interviews) to make a statement that he's going to focus on football and just be a good soldier taking his marching orders from the HC with no personal opinion on anything.

P.S. I also firmly believe that there is a lot of League payback for the Sanders public stuff about not wanting certain teams to draft him. The NFL is structured so that players don't have power to dictate where they live and work (or get paid) until they are veterans. So we are seeing an orchestrated ""Know your place. Don't mess with our sacred cows as owners. Get in line or you won't have a career in this League." And the sports media is so weighted toward NFL coverage and access for its revenues that most will take the side of the NFL. Hell, most fans take the side of ownership when there's a player dispute because we don't want our boat rocked either.

The Cleveland 247 publisher has generally had a pretty good read on the situation overall, and I thought some with 247 subs would like to read his latest rumination. It is worth the read

For those that don’t have a 247 sub, the cliffs are as follows:

>Shedeur is catnip for clicks
>Shedeur missed opportunity for milquetoast coach speak / never go mime
>Rex Ryan is an irrelevant loudmouth making claims about Shedeur that have no basis in fact
>Shedeur hasn’t been a poor teammate and has been studious, but he should have been supportive during the mime interview
>Sports journalism is an embarrassment

This is what makes it more kap than tebow

Fair perspective. I think I still lean the other way because I don't think that Shedeur brings negative consequences with their corporate partner and sponsor relationships - the opposite, in fact. Which is more like Tebow. It's just that the NFL doesn't really care much about that stuff. Unlike the NBA, they don't really nurture individual stars and often I think they try to avoid it so that the league comes first, the team comes second and individual celebrity is a very distant third for driving eyeballs. Heck, the NFL spotlights its owners as much or more than its players as the celebrities of their sport. Shedeur, like Tebow, rock this boat by having an inordinate fan following.

Fans can defend him all they want but it’s a bad look and doesn’t help him in any way, shape or form.

Maybe he doesn’t give a **** about the optics, but the optics are a major part of being QB1 in the league.
Gabriel talking about he’s a football player not an entertainer didn’t seem to matter too much. Guess it’s easy to “play the game” to “shut up and dribble” when nobody pays attention to you.

I think we are outraged because Shedeur did shut up. But the way he didn't say anything was way too playful and I have been assured that it means he is way too immature, spoiled by his daddy and selfishly a terrible teammate to be a starting QB in the NFL.

And even if he does suck for a couple games it sounds like they would go back to Flacco since he's listed as the backup right now
I wouldn't assume that.

If I was Stefanski and I was giving Gabriel a shot, I wouldn't put him in the position of having Shedeur breathing down his neck as the QB2. I also wouldn't disrespect Flacco and possibly cause him to ask for his release by dropping him to QB3. It's better for the team while Gabriel gets his shot to keep Shedeur at QB3.

I think we're saying the same thing, more or less. I was responding to Slider saying that Gabriel gets at least 2-3 games, which I agree with, but after that it seemed to be implied that Shedeur might get a shot if DG sucks. I don't think they would go to Shedeur if DG plays bad, if anything they would just go back to Flacco.

What you're saying makes sense though, except did you mean to say that you wouldn't disrespect Flacco by moving him to 3rd string?

*wouldn't, I'll edit

Flacco remaining QB2 is expected and better for Shedeur as you can't have Gabriel practice with the 1s all week and then throw Shedeur out there with no reps if Gabriel gets hurt. In that situation, Flacco is needed to come in and finish the game.

I highly doubt they go back to Flacco as the starter at this point, short of injury to both Gabriel and Shedeur. They spent two draft picks on these QBs and I think they are going to give Gabriel every opportunity to play the rest of the way, but in the event he looks bad, they keep losing or he gets hurt, I think they will also give Shedeur a shot as well.

I wonder how many young, mega-millionaire nfl QBs there are who don't drink or do other drugs, who are polite, respectful, kind and happy.
They have no problem populating The League with apparent sex-offenders, and praising them. But SS doesn't show them the idolatry they demand, so on we go.

I had a great laugh, in context of the criminal behavior that the NFL has glossed over, that there was so much outrage over Shedeur getting 2 speeding tickets.

I'm just hoping he doesn't show up for a formal event in a tan suit or his playing career will be over.

You don’t even have to take a look at the criminal behavior in the league. Just look at the actual QB1 on Shedeur’s team.

I think that Stefanski has made a decision that he was forced to take Shedeur but that doesn't mean he has to play him. Shedeur isn't playing unless there is no other option or the owner steps in and says play him or pack up your stuff.

At some point that very well could happen.
