Shedeur Sanders - 2023-25 Tracking History Thread - Drafted by the Cleveland Browns (NFL)

It's not unusual for coaches to have the mindset that they're playing chess and that his players are game pieces that should move exactly as he wants and then stay in their box when the coach isn't orchestrating moves.

Not all of them are like this, but a lot of them are.
There are a lot of coaches out there who fit this description.

They tend to have a relative level of success but rarely do then end up winning it all. Their strength is what also keeps them from the ultimate prize.

We saw this in Denver with Dan Reeves who was determined that John Elway was going to be a Roger Staubauch clone .

“They see these guys everyday, we don't..... Everyone has this belief that Sanders is being kept back for various reasons..... Folks just don't want to hear that Sanders when he came to Cleveland was in elementary school when it comes down to understanding defenses and with limited knowledge of structured offensive systems.

When they say they are bringing him along, they want him to succeed and they don't want to throw him to the wolves.

Gabriel is much more pro-ready and that is why he is on the field.

Sanders needs to keep working..... and not just on the field..... Much is mental prep and awareness”

Some within can only push this narrative for so long without proof. Especially when that's not what I've heard.

The Big Lebowski Reaction GIF

At the start of training camp, the Browns had brought in 40 year old Flacco, traded for Kenny Pickett, drafted Dillon Gabriel, drafted Shedeur Sanders, and had Deshaun Watson on the PUP. They signed Tyler Huntley to the PS, elevated him to start a preseason game, traded Kenny Pickett away, started Joe Flacco, released Tyler Huntley, signed Billy Zappe to the PS, started Dillon Gabriel, traded Joe Flacco, and now may elevate Billy Zappe off the practice squad to be QB2.

That is about 9 weeks in the life of the Browns.

Meanwhile, the player that Stefanski ran out of town, Baker Mayfield, is a productive starter for another team.
not just productive starter, fourth in MVP odds right now.

We don't know what is going on behind closed doors, that's right. Let's talk about things we know to be facts though. 26 years and 41 QBs and counting. Only one with the potential to be a franchise QB but the Browns ran him off to become one for another team. Why the heck would anyone trust what the Browns are telling us about QBs.

This, I've said it before. With all of the high draft choices, including some 1st pick in the draft guys nobody can convince me that every single one of those guys wasn't an NFL level talent at QB. Getting drafted as a QB by the Browns has historically been a career killer. Some other teams have been similar, the Jets for example, but I don't think and have as extensive a record of ruining QB prospects.

Of all 41 starters, Couch and Mayfield had MVP talent during their time with the Browns. I had both players as QB1 in their draft class. Manizel, Quinn, and Kizer had pro bowler potential. Of course, none reached their potential with the Browns. Mayfield got out soon enough and it did major damage to him. Had to bounce around a couple times and got a shot with Tampa and he's still not fully forgiven because of the Browns experience.

Teams like Tennessee have ruined Mariota and Vince Young. Jets ruined Darnold. Cardinals likely will ruin Murray. No one has ruined so many QBs than the Browns. The reason is, they ain't never on the same page for ****.

Cleveland sucks. No argument there.

apparently because the NYGs played Thursday, a 'local' game for Hulu in NJ is Cleveland - Pittsburgh.

Somebody knock off Gabriel's helmet

add: the volleyball and soccer games are on TV tonight.

I'm just sick of people online saying that Shedeur is horrible, was only playing ball because of his dad, and that he never should have been drafted.

These same idiots are the ones who last yaer were on the hype train saying he'd be a #1 overall pick.

In other words, people didn't watch him play. If they did, they'd know he has superior talent to Gabriel and several other starting NFL QB's right now.

Reminds me of a few years ago when McCaffrey didn't win the Heisman and one of the voters said he never watched Stanford play a single game becuase he was living on the east coast. People read something and think it's truth without making their own midns up through self-constructed research.

it's like when people said that Phillip Lindsay got cut becasue he couldn't catch a pass out of the backfield. Look up the stats of his playing days in denver....his stats in catching were superior to others on the roster, and on par with every starting RB in the league. But people believed it because it's the narrative the Broncos wrote up as an excuse to move on from him in favor of fumble prone bodybuilder Melvin Gordon.

i was at the first pre season game that Lindsay played in. I was cheering him as he was running crazy on the Bears, and people all around me kept asking me, "who is this guy? Where did he come from?"

Drove me crazy taht colorado football fans didn't even know he was from CU.
