Because I was curious (and work is slower than ****) I just looked up CO HS recruits from the last few years on 247. There were a few names missing under CO kids (Jessup and Perkins) so I threw them in, but I basically took the best recruits from the last few years. Here's what we're looking at from CO HS'ers:
* 2014 - Ronnie Harrell (Creighton, now Denver): High usage, low efficiency kid for DU right now (90 ORtg, 28.1 usage rate). Was better at Creighton where he was in a more limited role (played 57% of minutes last year and put up an ORtg of 113 while only having a 15.8 usage rate). So a solid rotation kid, but nothing to write home about.
* 2014 - Josh Perkins (Gonzaga): This one hurts. No need to recap. Would have been great to land. Reports are that the staff was given a "you take Dom and Josh doesn't even consider CU" ultimatum - meaning they had to decide whether a Dom in the hand was worth the possibility that Perkins would eventually choose them. From what I remember about this recruitment - and my memory could be wrong - we were in the top group but never stood out for him. I remember hearing pretty early on that he was a strong Gonzaga lean. (this is where
@YngC can school my ass)
* 2015 - Austin Conway (Wyoming): Never played hoops. Redshirted his freshman year and then decided to play football. Looks like he's been solid so maybe we should have recruited him after all.
* 2016 - De'Ron Davis (Indiana): By all reports, CU went hard here and just couldn't get it done (once again, something
@YngC would probably know more about). He's been a rotation guy at Indiana. Puts up solid numbers, but nothing mind blowing. This year he's got a 101.1 ORtg in 26.9% of minutes played. So basically, he'd be a healthy version of Dallas Walton on this team and playing spot minutes behind Siewart and Battey (who are both having much better seasons).
* 2016 - Justinian Jessup (Boise State): Solid rotation player. Can shoot (although numbers are down this year as more teams know about him and his minutes go up) and doesn't turn it over. But has an ORtg of 109.9 - lower than Kountz and Namon Wright who play the same position. Jessup would probably get PT over Kountz, but Wright has been much better than Jessup this year (and is shooting better) so he's coming off of the bench here too.
* 2017 - Schwartz (CU): Good frosh year. Less than ideal soph year. Which is real?
* 2018 - Adam Thistlewood (CSU): Putting up ok numbers as a frosh for a ****ty team. Looks like he can shoot. But not really someone I'm heartbroken about getting.
* 2018 - Kountz (CU): Daylen has looked better than I expected personally, and he has solid numbers (good efficiency, good shooting, doesn't turn it over) but has a small sample size. So we'll see.
So of the "top" recruits this state has produced the only one that really hurts is Perkins. Would I use a scholarship on the rest? Depending on my team's needs, yeah. Davis could provide depth up front we could use. Harrell would be nice next to Siewart/Battey if he was used properly. The rest are just guys. Stop ****ing recruiting Colorado.
