Tad has to go

Depends on how you define "successful", I guess.

2015-16 was the last 20+ win season with an NCAA tourney appearance.

Last 2 seasons have been 19-15 and 17-15.

Seems like the benchmark for the seasons that have made us pretty happy is that we go at least 10-8 in conference play -- which means we have to notch some road wins.
My expectation is always 20 wins. That's success to me for this program.

I am at the point where I am jealous of ****ing Arizona State.

Recall last years games vs ASU?

Also, we need to recognize how difficult it's been for Tad to schedule quality opponents for home and homes...given that we've taken down a number of top 10 ranked teams at home over the years (Kansas, Xavier, Arizona, ASU). I wonder if RG can help with this at all, as it's the root cause of terrible fan support, and a lot trickles down from that. (making the tournament would help too)

Yesterdays loss was bad and I'm bitter about some individual players efforts. USD has a quality squad this year and I'd fully expect us to lose at least 30-40% of the time when we play them.

Coulda had Nevada in a 2 for 1.

Are you agreeing or disagreeing that 20 wins should be the baseline for success?
I'm saying that with the weakness of the OOC schedule winning 20 is not in any way an unreasonable expectation for CU. Below that on anything more than an occasional basis should trigger a strong look at the program.

Then why the hell would Tad decline it?
I heard because he has too many Mountain West teams already scheduled. Didn't make much sense to me. Perhaps it's because he knows the fan base just wants to win 18 - 20 games and doesn't care if the team is actually any good.

So basically agreeing that 20 wins should be the norm. BTW, I'm saying 20 wins should be the expectation regardless of schedule strength. That's the mark of a solid program IMO.

I feel like the people who are at damn near every basketball game and have been for years are the ones who support Tad.

And that it's the casual fans who are leading this online charge to want to fire him.

I know which group I'm going to listen to.

This is wrong. I have had BB season tickets since Chauncey's sophomore year, 1996-1997.

As a long time season ticket holder who once was a huge fan of Tad’s program, it is obvious to me that his program is declining. His recruiting has been unbelievably bad most years, 2013-2016 just killed the program. I think a change needs to be made, but think he will be here thru the 2019-2020 season.

The amount of deference Tad gets from some is amazing. Not super hard to believe that he has maxed out what he is going to achieve at CU. 1 NCAA win 8 years ago buys you a lot of slack apparently.

Hot take advisory...I haven’t followed Buff BB seriously since the Jay Humphries era.

That stated, I like Tad. He runs a clean program and is a good ambassador for the university. I ALWAYS see him at football games where he regualrly takes time and talks to random fans wishing him well and whatnot. But, the program seems tired. Fan support is abysmal and the AD has to address it. It can’t continue the trajectory it’s in. Now, does that mean replacing Boyle? Who they gonna get? This is not a CBB destination and all you have to sell is location and quality of life to a propective new coach. Unlike football, there is no legacy or foundation of greatness to build on. Maybe the current condition of BB here is as good as it gets. May have to face that.

This is the most glaring thing to me. Seems a lot of times people are just going through the motions. It doesn't help that the AD is doing nothing to engage the fan base.

I don't think we are far apart.
20 wins in a season for CU would mean beating the teams we should always beat on the OOC schedule, maybe winning a couple of legit OOC games, and going roughly .500 in the league schedule. It doesn't work out exactly but it comes close.

I don't expect us to consistently end up in the top 2-4 in the conference. We have some conference schools that a) have much more tradition and some huge recruiting advantages and b) are willing to do things to attract elite players that CU will not and should not do.

Basketball is a different game than football in that certain individual players can elevate an average team to well above average and an above average team to a championship contender. Unfortunately the system in place almost requires making certain compromises that I can't support.

It is possible though to consistently be an above average team without making those compromises. We are now in a position where that should be our expectation.

I am 100% a casual fan and any talk of firing Tad Boyle is absurd.

I am finally understanding the die hard fans. We are bottom feeders in the P12, because there is no CU basketball support from Rick, the donors, and the alumni. But Tad is not to blame, because he is keeping us above water. Just think how horrible we would be without him. I will continue to be a casual fan.

We aren't bottom feeders. We're middle of the pack. Which is pretty damn good given the lack of support from the AD.

I'll never be a "just win, baby" guy.
You need to aim a bit higher!
