The 2021-2022 Coaching Carousel

I'm not sure Diaz is off the hot seat-Cristobal (who I think we can probably start the clock on after his supposedly physical team got their asses kicked last night) may want to move on himself at this point. He is a Miami alum too. I do agree with you on the other two. Kind of wondering if Sark might be one and done in Austin-there's way too much talent there for them to be looking at 4-8 or 5-7.......the job he's done in Austin has been that ****ing bad.

This carousel is going to be entertaining-LSU, USC, Florida all open already.
Yeah, Sark is a mystery.

So Lane Kiffin, James Franklin, and Dave Aranda get looks? Maybe Cristobal? Jeff Brohm? Gotta think Marcus Freeman, Dan Lanning, and Mike Elko are all going to get looks as P5 coordinators. Maybe Jeff Grimes?

Billy Napier, Kalani Sitake, Jamey Chadwell, and Charles Huff from the G5 ranks?

Jim Leonhard might be ready to take over a program? Also, Dave Clawson could make a move. I don’t think his stock could get higher.

The dominos I'm kind of hoping to see fall are James Franklin to USC followed by PSU taking the risk on Joe Brady.

Could Joe Moorehead be a possibility at PSU given his previous stint there.

i think USC and/or LSU happen next weekend. (And Chiv)

I'd put the following coaches on the watchlist:

Doug Martin, but NMSU may not do anything with any buy out, their AD is poor.

Geoff Collins, following Johnson at Tech is hard, completely changing schemes is harder. He may get 1 more year.

Steve Addazio, he probably gets 1 more year because CSU.

Cutcliffe, probably retires.

Scot Loeffler, Bowling Green, struggling to even look mediocre.

Philip Montgomery, Tulsa has to move on sometime, he's never gotten back to the first couple of years.

Plus all the others we've discussed a lot like Many Diaz, Jake Spavital, Seth Littrell, etc.

Charles Huff isn't going anywhere IMO. He walked into a hell of a situation at Marshall (Doc Holliday went 85-54 there), and he's winning with mainly Holliday's guys.

I think Collins' buyout drops significantly after next season (he signed a seven-year contract due to the scheme change).

Someone brought up Brady didn't enjoy recruiting and wants to stay in the NFL.
I did. Here's the thing with Brady though-Carolina's 5-6. He might have to wait another year for an NFL gig if he wants one, but LSU would bring him back as HC tomorrow. Is that tempting enough?

Yes. Woodward would have to have a big discussion with him about recruiting. A detached HC who won’t recruit is a recipe for disaster in SECW no matter degree of being O savant. That’s actually true for all decisions, even P12s

Franklin is possibly the most overhyped, underwhelming coach in P5 football. A couple of great seasons at Vanderbilt followed by seven mediocre seasons out of eight at PSU. In his eight seasons at PSU they won their seven team division once and never won the conference championship.

USC, LSU and UF can and should all do better.

I'm sure he's already thinking about that. He had a "Yeah, whatever" kind of response when he got asked about the job, but there's the above tweet and the fact that he could easily end the rumors with a statement saying I'm happy in the NFL. My guess is LSU is hiring either him or Aranda with Tucker getting that massive extension.

Feeling like the USC search is going to turn into a mess. Chatter in the industry that Fickell is happy enough at Cincinnati to where he's got three jobs he'll leave for (Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Penn State). James Franklin might have inadvertently revealed he's getting extended. From what I'm reading, I'm getting the vibe that Aranda's more interested in LSU than he is USC.

He won the B1G in 2016 and he’s won 11 games three times at Penn State. The B1G East is arguably the toughest division in College Football and he’s averaged almost 10 wins/season.

Regardless, the biggest attraction to Franklin is his recruiting

All good. Would he fun if he recruits.

Yes, PSU won the Big 10 one time under Franklin. I had that wrong.

In seven years, not including this mediocre season, PSU has won their 7-team division just once, 2nd place twice, 3rd place twice, as well as 4th and 6th place once each. If he is a great recruiter it just makes those results all the worse. They will end up 4th out of 7 this season again.

PSU is 11-9 in their last 20 games. That is not a blue chip coach leading that program.

Franklin needs to leverage every penny out of PSU he can get this cycle and send a thank you card to Mel Tucker

This reads as Jimbo Fisher lite. I would say that's a good way to describe Franklin.

LSU will pay better. I guess it depends on what he values.

In Franklin’s 8 years at PSU (including this one), Ohio State has won the division 6 times, MSU once and PSU once. Everybody in that division and conference plays a distant second fiddle to Ohio State.

That’s clearly not the case in the Pac 12 South where I think Franklin would have USC recruiting back in the top 5 consistently and owning the division.

11-9 in the last 20 games is not because of OSU. If Franklin is some kind of recruiting wonderkind then he is clearly a crap coach.
Sometimes things just run their course and 8 years is a long time in one place for most coaches. He’s still one of the top coaches in the profession.

Who is on your short list for USC?

Who do you think USC should hire and why then? Franklin's the only way they make a splash. Fickell IMO stays at Cincy.
