Travis Hunter Appreciation Thread (Awards: HE12MAN, Walter Camp, Biletnikoff, Bednarik, Lott, Paul Hornung, AP PotY)

Shedeur was one of three people that made this program relevant again. They could build a statute of him and Travis outside Folsom and I’d think it was cool. Retire his number if you want to. This fanbase should be so grateful for Shedeur
I am super Grateful of Shedeur and Travis for sure.
In 5 years as that greatness grows and they are in the NFL, they can come back and get their numbers retired.
Are you OK with instant jersey retirements? I actually think we will get mocked by this

Not sure about this ....

Travis yeah Heisman and all, Sanders errrr not so much

On last moment of daddy ball. Hell, add Shilo.

The timing is lame. No doubt about it. We went on our first date, and I booked us a wedding chapel, we’re looking at a house for sale in two days, the sperm bank is ready when you are, I’m building a crib out of ten thousand popsicle sticks…I’m just so excited!

All those guys Michael Jones mentioned in his rage text have their names and numbers on the west side of Folsom. Maybe they won’t use 2 and 12 while Prime is the Head Coach but I’m sure they will come out of “retirement” once he is no longer in Boulder. If you officially retire numbers of every great player then we’ll only have about half the numbers available. These guys are the spark that lit the flame again for CU football of which was completely stamped out over the past 20yrs. Everyone always has something to complain about. The fact that we are actually having this conversation tells you how far the program has come in 2 seasons.

I didn’t seen many, if any, former greats step up to help this university outside of Hagan during the pre-prime era of suck. Now that Shedeur and Travis rebuilt the program and had unmatched personal success from any other former player, they’re all coming out to complain and talk about this amazing tradition and history that they haven’t given a **** about until now.

The west side names are reserved for All Americans, so Shedeur does not qualify to be up there. Are they goin gto change that rule after all this time.

I'm with M. Jones here. This is a small time move, and does indeed trample on the history of the program. They could have waitied a while, and most would have been more onboard.

I love Prime, but not everything he does is correct, and his fingerprints are clearly all over this. If it was not his idea, he should have talked them out of this timing.

Or an award winner so he qualifies

I always thought that the west side honor was reserved specifically for All Americans. I asked Google, and AI told me this:

The players' names inscribed on the west side of Folsom Field are those who achieved exceptional athletic achievements. Specifically, the players honored on the west side of Folsom Field include Jim Brown, Joe Namath, Gale Sayers, Fran Tarkenton, Bart Starr, Roger Staubach, Steve Spurrier, Dan Marino, and Joe Montana.

I need to pay better attention on game day.

2 years of relevancy and everyone forgets the previous 20 years?
This team was in the crapper. Fans were gone and die hard fans were talking about walking away.
One man brought us back to relevancy and it was not Rick George.
This is a Deion thing. If this makes him happy and keeps him more connected to CU and gets him to stick around longer than I am all for it.
We've given Deion a lot of control and this is just another facet of that. Be happy that we are on TV every game and other teams hate/fear us.
Embrace the Deion love and let's win another NC.

I'm happy the CUAD is being opportunistic in using media attention to build the brand. The legacy comments are interesting and generally fair, but right now S Sanders and Hunter are doing more to garner media attention to CU than any of those others.

also, my brother decided to pick a fight over this on the family gc last night.

I think my biggest issue with the negative commentary around this is that it's all about ****ting on the legacy of Buff greats who built the program, yet the radio guys this morning said, "if it was just Travis, I don't think anyone would care and, in fact, most would agree". Soooo is the issue about ****ting on the legacy of Buff greats who built the program or is the issue that Shedeur is part of it?

I guess I’m confused. Are their names going onto the stadium, are their numbers being retired, or both?

IMO, Travis deserves both. He’s a Heisman winner and CU will never have another guy like him. Shedeur should have his name on the stadium, but the retired number thing seems kinda dumb. We’ve retired 4 numbers in our history, suddenly we’re doing two, one of which happens to be the coach’s kid?

Honestly, it feels a lot like daddy ball and not wanting to hurt Shedeur’s feelings by doing Travis’s and not his.

Travis has far more national/individual accomplishments and awards than Shedeur, but Shedeur holds every single season and most career passing records in the CU history book. Shedeur is the reason Travis came to Colorado. Shedeur is the more impactful player on saving/revitalizing the program. Shedeur had more influence over getting great recruits and transfers to CU. Shedeur is the greatest passing QB in CU history.

Prime is the most impactful person to the football program since McCartney, and possibly the most impactful person to the broader University in the last three decades and will be for the next decade or more and Shedeur had a lot to do with that.

When you take a step back and look at the bigger picture, Shedeur absolutely goes down as one of the GOAT Buffs and deserves to have his number retired. If people want to quibble about the timing, fine. Should CU also honor Deon Figures when retiring #2? Yes, I believe they should. If I had to guess, they will likely do something to that effect, along with some others potentially.
