We dont have anyone who is beating out Wells. He was turning a corner, big time, the end of this season. Great athlete as well.

Agreed. Wells was completely lost for about half the season (a lot of guys were), but was playing really well down the stretch (as were a lot of guys).

Hope you guys are right! I thought he looked slower than I expected. Maybe I’m biased from the slow start.

What are the odds Spuce's relative winds up playing a lot at Star? He's not that big, but I saw game videos on 247, he can really lay the wood. Too slow for safety, or no?

Players who will surprise this year
Offensive lineman Senn (FHCMM's last accidental gift to the Buffs), Magri from Monarch is going to get some PT on a deep d-line and we will all think of Sauvao as a stud by the end of next year.

Players who you forgot exist that will play: Sparaco (yes, he is still there and since HCMT likes to rotate Dline, you will see him).
What is this dude smoking? If Magri couldn't play when two true frosh did this year, he ain't playing next year with Alfano and Jackson coming in and NOBODY leaving.

Sparaco? I heard he's moving to QB.

Sparaco was scout player of the week multiple times last year and if not for having to sit because of his transfer back would have played. He has a chip on his shoulder that he put there himself and will be a contributor. Tucker is building his team his way. Still not there, but inch by inch it is coming together!

Staff certainly didn't earmark a scholarship for him and went into the Jucos for interior DL (signed Alfano and Jackson, plus a Frosh, without losing anyone to graduation).

So other than your word on this, I see absolutely no supporting evidence that the staff sees what you are saying. I'll be happy to be wrong, but that would seem strange.

I'm not even that locked in, but him even including Magri and Senn told me he's full of Christmas Kool-aid.

And just to add, most oftenly, scout team player accolades are driven by effort not necessarily accomplishments. I'm a huge advocate for our walk-ons, so don't mean to get cast on the wrong side of this. Sparaco should have a chip on his shoulder. Hope he's all conference.

RB is a position where talent shows early.

If Clayton is here he isn't redshirting. More likely he is the primary back day one.

I’m reading the tea leaves and everything seems to be pointing toward us running 3-4-4 base with Perry starting at S (with Rakestraw), and having 3 CBS on the field for Nickel for certain situations.

I think we’ll see fewer STAR sets in 2020 because we simply have a ton more depth of talent at LB than we do with safeties.

My lips might be stained with kool-aid but Perry and Rakestraw already looks like one of the best Safety tandems in 20 years.

2001 Lewis and Robinson
2016 Thompson and Laguda

And 2020 Perry and Rakestraw should fit right in.

If Stenstrom is QB1 we're in baaaaad shape next year.

As we go into spring, let's not pre-judge as we have often done on here. We know there will be a fair and comprehensive battle for QB1 and it's not out of the realm of possibilities that Stenstrom could beat out Lytle and Lewis, without them sucking.

I don't think Adam or anyone really knows what we have with Stenstrom, other than he played a bit timid in VERY limited action as a Frosh and displays really good agility and quickness. Honestly, nobody seems to know if he surpassed Lytle or if Lytle just was hurt. So it seems to me that the entire spectrum of possibilities from All-American to complete washout are still in play.

Who are the two OLBs? Wells and who?

Hers is what we do know. He could not supplant a struggling Montez this year. Never got a whiff. That concerns me.

Presuming:

1. Alfano's appeal is granted;
2. Mustafa stays healthy;
3. The overall Dline continues to improve/progress; and
4. The LB's play the pass better (I think OLB will be better with Thomas);

this tandem could be great. Or any tandem CU throws out there. If Gonzales is ready to play, so be it. The more pressure the front 3-4, and other 3 LB's can bring or cover, things will be easier on the entire CU secondary. IMO, CU did not get beat over the top or long and outside nearly as much as in the HCMM years. Of course, Dante Wigley was not there to be picked on. It was the mid-field and slants that were long gains and/or went to the house. Certainly, the last 6 games they improved tons.

I’m feeling pretty good about the DL, Landman, and the staring CBs next year. The rest of the starters are questions that will hopefully be fun to see answered come fall.

I feel good about Akil Jones. He’s a JAG on a good P5 defense - which allows Landman to be free to do the risk/reward stuff that can make him special.

I think there are too many moving parts in the secondary to expect real consistency in 2020. I expect some real ups and downs week to week.

You have some solid picks, some interesting picks, and some uhm were you hitting a bong picks. Huge fan of Pells but that's not happening Wells is a future draft pick, he's going to shine this year.
