We played like crap... Agree?

Coaching wise, we did a far better job in the first half. We saw why Lindgren is respected, he honestly drew up some beautiful plays and the play calling was on point through the 17-0 lead. Eliot had some nice looks and they had no adjustment for that Lewis/lb blitz in the first half. Once CSU picked it up in the second half, it took a few series, but we were able to start getting pressure on Stevens again. If he can do that with a relatively inexperienced d, I'm feeling pretty good about this year. We became too conservative on offense and need to be more innovative with our game plan during the later parts of the game.

Player wise, Lewis seemed to come out of nowhere, but what a beast. Leo Jackson, Oliver, and Laguda look to be the stalwarts of this defense. I know there was some hate on Javier Edwards, but ng is a tough position to be noticed. I think he probably opened some holes for Lewis, Gamboa, and Hasslebach tonight. On offensive, the line needs to improve. We have so many playmakers between the receivers and Lindsey; we absolutely need to be putting up more points.

Lindgrenis respected??? Drew up beautiful plays??? Not what I saw. I think I wish like hell that Chiv was given total control of the offense. I do believe that Lindgren is a very good QB coach, but not a good OC! Elliott has me pumped, and the defense is taking up the new tradition of defense. I just wish we would put this outrageous talent in motion more, like using a fly motion almost every play in order to create confusion on the defense. Chad Brown said that we were going to set them up for a double move that just never happened. Did Montez and the receivers get the chance to utilize it, NO?

Also, is there a chance that we are RED SHIRTING Kabion Ento??? I read that he has a red shirt available and that he would be a guaranteed starter next year and could be a focus on the offense and improve his NFL Chances.

The defensive performance should be very encouraging.
CSU outgained us and two of the four offensive PI calls against CSU were borderline at best and one of those was a TD. CU dodged a bullet and won a game that it didn't really deserve to win. I'll take it but the D was far from lights out.

FG kicking was an issue but overall special teams much better.

XPs were not an adventure. Kick-offs went deep into the end zone, no returns.

We punted well, didn't give up any big returns. Only issue was the interference call on the punt coverage in he second half. No opportunities to return KOs

We didn't deserve to win? It might've been tied going in the fourth without those calls. Refs gifted us the spread, but played well enough to win.

I didn't expect a lights out performance. It will be an uneven season on defense.

Get Fisher back. Get McCartney playing at 100%. Develop Callier and Udoffia. Get rid of the Lewis mistakes (because his good plays are great). Have Javier and Mulumba get reps to figure some things out. This defense can grow into something pretty special.

Offense has to be better. Need Irwin. Need to open things up the next 2 weeks. As it stands, we wouldn't be able to score against Washington.

Yes, Lindgren is very well respected in college football. He draws up good gameplans in terms of getting his receivers in space and open. This also leads to big plays on the ground, like our first touchdown Someone shared a video from an unaffiliated source of how he does this a few months ago. The main problem I see with him is that he's slow to make adjustments during the game and becomes too conservative, especially with a lead.

Thank god we play two patsy teams the next two weeks and we can work out all the offensive issues going into Washington game.

I just think he somehow has a problem with his play calling rhythm and somehow his drives are out of sync. First thing we need to do is dump the RPO crap because we really do not need to run this QB with all these weapons. That is why I like the two back sets, and I would like to see quicker short passes followed by creative roll outs and other types of plays. Running the QB is literally a double negative equation. First, the ball is not in a playmakers hands that could go all the way, and second, your most valuable player is at high risk to get hurt, and third your QB is on the ground having to get up and get his bearings and get a play called and continue the drive. Total waste of a call unless it is your only choice (Example would be Eric Crouch for the Nubs). If he is respected, then let the Texas Tech concepts start taking over more than the high school offensive concepts.

It was our first game of the year.
It was their second.

Given that, I was happy.

Halfway through the second quarter I had no doubt we had the game won. I thought we'd score more too, but at no point was I worried about the outcome.

Which also meant I was fine shutting down the creativity of the offense. Now UW isn't going to have much other than vanilla offense to game plan against.

I'm fine with that.

Regarding one of the PIs: Many people are calling the one down the west sideline heading south "borderline," and I completely understand why. The camera angle & replays were from middle field end zone and not the sideline. Now that I've mentioned that, the play was heading right towards my seat, and it was so obvious the push off was forceful and impactful. However, it looked like a brush off on the replay, so I totally understand the "borderline" talk on that one. I guess that's what you get when your game gets broadcast on a ****ty third tier network that only supplied a minimal amount of cameras. That said, I felt like two of the PIs were obvious push offs that impacted the play and should have been called. The other one, who the hell knows.

I'll definitely agree about the running the quarterback part. It makes me gasp everytime. I don't know about Noyer, but I definitely don't want him in a situation like Montez was in last year. I also think that, ultimately, Lindgren will and should probably be coaching in the NFL. He doesn't really seem to like recruiting and I think he just has an understanding of football that would allow him to be successful as a qb or wr coach and then possibly an oc. As a Saints fan, I see some Peter Carmichael, our oc, in him.

We also held that offense (who put up 58 points and 500 plus yards on a Pac 12 team last week) to 3 points and 350-ish yards. I'm tired of talking about the referees already. If CSU doesn't like the Pac 12 referees, they can cancel the rest of the series. It wouldn't bother me at all.

Gary Barnett was pretty critical of Montez making the point that he has to show that he can be a pocket passer. He certainly appeared to get "happy feet" a few times.

It's all good. The D looked solid against a team that just dropped 58 on a PAC team (albeit OSU), and that was the huge unknown coming into this season. You know that the offense will gel soon.

I can only remember Montez making two bad throws in the game and his arm strength is impressive. His biggest issue was rolling into the pressure instead of moving up in the pocket with his eyes downfield. At 6'5", he should be good at that.

I can't believe Bobo did not stop their QB from going for the deep ball. It was almost never there and the underneath stuff was working for them. Oliver's deep coverage + the questionable penalties were the difference in the game, IMO.

He didn't get much help from the reshuffled OL. He ran for his life a lot.
You'd expect that as talented as our receivers are, they could get open and Montez would be able to find an open guy and get the pass off quickly. He didn't do that tonight. Now, without looking at film, I don't know. Maybe our guys couldn't beat coverage. If that's so, then we have other issues because CSU's D is not supposed to be strong.

Yeah. And those quick, short, out routes were working all night. I'd have kept going to those until they stopped it.
