Had a slow day at work the other day and read the bulk of this(it's long). Since everyone on here is obsessed with the Buffs y'all should take the time to read this or at least skim over it. Had never heard of the guy before. He would be my number 1 choice after reading this. Mac 2.0. If not Anderson then hopefully Miles. When CU went after McCartney they found that the ideal program to emulate at the time was Michigan under Schembechler. While they couldn't hire away Schembechler they went after the assistant they could find that emobodied that success and would put in the work necessary to raise the bar at CU.
In today's age, I would say that aside from Alabama the program that CU should try to emulate is Stanford. Based on CU's desire to be academically-oriented I think that is even more fitting; and the fact that we share the same recruiting grounds only makes it more ideal. Washington since hiring Peterson has done that as well; but Stanford has been the better program for longer. Since we can't get David Shaw, the next best thing is...
I would submit: Lance Anderson
The Gatekeeper: Lance Anderson and the redefinition of Stanford football
He’s going to be coaching in Colorado next year, just not in boulder
Not a huge fan of Miles, but Miles >>>>>>>> Leavitt
I want to interview them both.
I seriously want Lupoi to be considered. I've seen some "hard pass" sentiments from people here, though. What gives?Hard pass on Leavitt.
No experience as a HC, red flags around recruiting practices, and questions about what kind of staff he could assemble.I seriously want Lupoi to be considered. I've seen some "hard pass" sentiments from people here, though. What gives?
Don't care about no experience as HC, and recruiting practice red flags seem to have been a thing of the past for him and it hasn't seemed to stop teams like Cal, UW, and Alabama from employing him and using him as their Ace recruiter. The staff assembly is a legit question, but that's going to be a question with the majority of candidates outside of the retread options. No experience as a HC, red flags around recruiting practices, and questions about what kind of staff he could assemble.
After the Embree and Mac eras, I want as close to a sure thing as possible and I just do not see Tosh as that. I see that as another experiment that you hope works but you enter into with too many unknown variables.Don't care about no experience as HC, and recruiting practice red flags seem to have been a thing of the past for him and it hasn't seemed to stop teams like Cal, UW, and Alabama from employing him and using him as their Ace recruiter. Give me an ace recruiter with the possibilities of a couple of slaps on the wrist over what we've had the past ten years.Don't care about no experience as HC, and recruiting practice red flags seem to have been a thing of the past for him and it hasn't seemed to stop teams like Cal, UW, and Alabama from employing him and using him as their Ace recruiter. I want someone who is hungry and is going to recruit his balls off and close on elite football players. Tosh has been known as one of the best recruiters in the country, knows the Pac 12 footprint well, and has spent time under the best to ever coach, in the best program we've ever seen. I think he'd bring an attitude and toughness to the team we haven't had around here since the glory years. There is some risk involved, just as there is in any coaching hire outside the known elites, but the reward could be huge. After the Embree and Mac eras, I want as close to a sure thing as possible and I just do not see Tosh as that. In my opinion, Les Miles is the answer on a lot of fronts.
I lean toward Miles because the biggest thing CU needs right now is national exposure and brand development. We are on the verge of obscurity after the last 15 years. If Miles became the coach we are immediately a front page story across the country and I'm guessing our 2019 games are picked up nationally as well.I want someone who is hungry and is going to recruit his balls off and close on elite football players. I'd be cool with Miles, too, don't get me wrong, I just find the prospect of Lupoi pretty exciting.
I want someone who is hungry and is going to recruit his balls off and close on elite football players....knows the Pac 12 footprint well
Lupoi has proven himself far beyond what Chev has to this point. I think that one liner describes Jimmy Lake as well, though.Call me crazy but you could also be describing Chev.
That he does not have a kid that is about to be recruited to play at CU. No knock on JMac... I am just tired of coaches kids being on the roster. Having played on teams before, there is no way that does not affect a locker room and waste a spot for a contributor.
that was geared more toward little ChevJay MacIntyre has been the opposite of a wasted spot.
JMac is one of my all time favorite Buffs. We got saddled with Cody. My point was - anytime the coaches kid is in a locker room it creates some dissension.Jay MacIntyre has been the opposite of a wasted spot.

Yep Your RightA walk-on. Happens plenty elsewhere.
Quarterback is the only position where it is extremely detrimental.

That's an awful list.Hard pass on Tosh Lupoi-I don't want anybody here who has been tarnished by off the field stuff.....so him, Sarkisian, etc I'd throw in there. Campus Conversation brought up three names during some discussion on this job-Jeff Tedford was one of them, and there's been chatter about that idea both here and on twitter (including some UCLA fans who think he'd win bigger here than at USC). He's been my #1 since the Oregon State debacle if he's interested in this job. Knows quarterbacks (would be great for Steven Montez) and has had success in this league when it was tougher than it is now (USC was a national championship contender for most of his Cal tenure). The other two were Bryan Harsin-and the only way you could sell that to this fanbase is if he's willing to not bring anyone with him from Boise (Kent Riddle, Andy Avalos, Jeff Pitman, Brad Bedell, and Eric Kiesau are all on his staff right now). Mark Helfrich would be interested in this job if it opens according to them as well.
I don't think we could pull this off because I think only an elite program could, but I'd love to have Helfrich back as OC under our new HC.Harsin and Helfrich? Hell no.
Where is Harsin going to hire from if there cannot be Boise connections on his staff?
Helfrich is a nice guy, bad head coach. He botched recruiting for Oregon in a big way (did not pursue Tua much).

Go have a nap and enjoy your refractory period.Gimme
