Who are the top 10 Buff players for the 2018 season?

And who that didn’t make your list right now do you think could deliver a top 10 performance that would put him on your post-season list?

1) Travon McMillian
2) Steven Montez
3) Evan Worthington
4) Juwann Winfree
5) Drew Lewis
6) N.J. Falo
7) Jake Moretti
8) Chris Mulumba
9) William Sherman
10) LaViska Shenault

Kind of tricky as you need a mix of importance here. I’m not sure Montez is going to be our 2nd best player, but he’s surely our most important one. I think Shenault is probably better than our 10th best player, but I think all the guys ahead of him are slightly more important. I think McMillian is quite possibly our best player while also being incredibly important - not just running the ball but also in the passing game. I have Falo pretty high on the list because I think our every down OLB is an area we really need to be strong this year.

Would love to see another OL and/or Edwards crack this list when we do a post-season version. I could also see a corner like Chris Miller or Delrick Abrams making the top 10. And Terrance Lang is a wildcard since he could probably be a top 5 talent at a major position of need if he’s ready to contribute that big this year.

Edit: smh I can’t believe I forgot Lynott. I’d have him in for Sherman, but I’d move him up to where Moretti is and drop everyone a spot.

Wigley

Lewis

The player who could have a top 10 season not on my list..Lang, if he's on campus.
Good list.

I might put Taylor in place of Wigley.

Moretti can zoom to top 3-5 if healthy.

I agree with McMillan at 1.

Montez
McMillan
Shenault
Lynott
Worthington
Udoffia
Landman
Edwards
Lang
Stefanou

No particular ranking. I rated them mostly by players that would hurt the most if lost to injury combined with guys who have the ability to be big playmakers.

Surprised at the lack of love Lewis is getting. He led the team in tackles and was pretty much our entire blitz rush last year. I think I'd have him #2.

I think/hope the ILBs are going to cancel each other out, in a good way.

OTOH, not quite as convinced the depth at WR is as good as advertised and we need Shenault to ball out.

I'm not putting anyone on my preseason list I haven't seen play. That knocks off guys who I would think will be on my post-season list: McMillian, Miller and Taylor. I could also see Moretti and Abrams being Top 10 post-season.

Top 10 (May):
  1. Worthington
  2. Lewis
  3. Montez
  4. Winfree
  5. Lynott
  6. Gamboa
  7. Haigler
  8. Shenault
  9. Ento
  10. Mulumba
P.S. Lynott would be at #2 if I knew he was healthy.

Fontenot (going contrarian here, as the betting man, I would go with McMillian, as the dude who is going to be the rock and get the rock)
Miller
Landman
Taylor
Mustafa
Haigler
Pursell
Winfree
Laviska

Most everyone is overlooking JC transfer Davion Taylor, who will start at the Buff Backer position, absent injury. Dude just finished 6th in the PAC 12 Championship 100 meter dash at 220 pounds, and his time of 10.51 was the best of any Buffs Track time for that event in 5 years. He looking to gain 5 to 10 pounds for football without losing speed. He was ranked the top 16 JUCO football prospect in the nation by 247.

If this year ends with McMillian being our top player, I will be delighted.

Who are you down on? Brown, Bell, Jackson, ento, Arias and Stanley seem like a pretty talented group of depth pieces.

I guess I should say the depth seems pretty good, but who is 1-3? Seems like we have several players who are 4-6 type guys.

Is the Buff Backer position important to overall defensive success? I am not convinced it is.

Not sure, Mr. Duff Man. But Taylor has 3 years to play 2 and I believe (absent injury) that he will make a very positive impact somewhere on the defense, starting this season.

Yeah I don’t see Taylor coming off the field much this year. It sort of reminds me of a post I saw on here a couple weeks ago form someone who talked to a former player under embree and mac. He said that the main difference between cu and usc was that usc had athletes on the field while cu had football players, well Taylor is that athlete type that simply makes plays no one else can.

I think Taylor will play a lot, just not convinced the coaches are going to use him correctly.

No particular order:
Alex Kinney
Rick Gamboa
Drew Lewis
Juwann Winfree
Evan Worthington
Tim Lynott
Steven Montez
James Stefanou
Laviska Shenault
Jake Moretti

KD Nixon, Chris Miller, and Carson Wells are my most likely to make top 10.
