Who are the top 10 Buff players for the 2018 season?

No order

Montez
Worthington
Fisher
Mulumba
Edwards
Lewis
Gamboa
Steanfou (kickers are important right?)
Sheanult
Darrion Jones...just threw that name out there...he could be a difference maker.

Most everyone is overlooking JC transfer Davion Taylor, who will start at the Buff Backer position, absent injury. Dude just finished 6th in the PAC 12 Championship 100 meter dash at 220 pounds, and his time of 10.51 was the best of any Buffs Track time for that event in 5 years. He looking to gain 5 to 10 pounds for football without losing speed. He was ranked the top 16 JUCO football prospect in the nation by 247.

Agree. Critical position. Potentially good add.

Agree. I think the key question is whether or not he plays in $0.05 and, if so, where. Your thoughts?

He has more speed and athleticism than Moeller did, so I would like the coaches to let him play inside at times.

Just let him make plays, move him around and let him go get the football. I can't wait for the excuses about "he didn't know the playbook enough" or "he wasn't as up to date in pass coverage as we would like." If the defense is so complicated where you have good players and athletes that can't see the field then there is an issue.

I get that but you also need a system in place where his teammates know where he will be on the field in situations. You can’t be winging it all the time

I think they've got to limit him a bit, especially early in the season. Make sure they don't over complicate things with his assignments so he can pin his ears back.

That said, I'm more concerned with the other OLB. We need someone to give us a pass rush like Jimmie Gilbert did. That and holding the point at NT seem to be the keys to making this CU defense go.

Falo pretty much has to be that guy, doesn't he?

Agree. He could rush from inside or cover RB out of backfield, limiting Gamboa liability.

Sounds good.

Callier? Falo?

I agree on NT. If they can’t occupy C and G, then 3-4 advantages gets negated, Gs get free run to LBs. Javier was manhandled by too many C in 1:1 situations last year.

Falo's not a pass rusher.

I think it's got to be someone from Callier/ Tchangam/ Wells who steps up and gives us an edge pass rush.

Right now this is my biggest concern about the 2018 team.
I think Falo can be a situational blitzer from time to time, using his quickness. On the other hand he could get mauled by an OT or chipped by a TE. Callier best true rusher. I think they will miss Sporaco in this role at some point this year.

Interesting. I definitely understand the feeling on Ento, but I think Winfree/Shenault are definitely WR1/2 types.

Maybe Winfree is that #2, which would be great.

My point is we're ****ed if no one steps up as a true #1 this season. "Depth" is nice, but you need a star at that position.

A little hard to tell with Falo. The silly experiments with moving him inside stunted him a bit IMO.

I think Winfree gets his fair share of home run oops this year. They have just find every way possible to get the ball to Viska in my opinion.

That's how I see Falo. If you can bring him on a stunt that confuses the protection, he's got the speed and explosion to get there. He will get there in that case.

This is pretty much what we have with Drew Lewis.

What I'm talking about and what we need is someone who can do what Gilbert did. You know he's coming. You know where he's coming from. And you can't stop him from getting a hit on your QB. Who will that come from this year?

Callier seems most likely option IMO. I like Wells, just not sure he’s a true edge. Don’t know about Tch, but know many like him. Lots of options, just like WR, but sonebody’s gotta step up and be da man at this position.

Absolutely. I think the WR position is a little bit of a microcosm of the entire team and season as a whole. We hope/believe Fontenot/McMillan will be solid players, but we don’t really know. We hope/believe Montez will turn the corner, Moretti will be healthy and live up to his recruiting, we hope Lynott makes it back to 100% and that Purcell and Sherman are legit, Javier and Mulumba make that jump and that our CB position will continue to produce great players, but we just don’t know.

I don’t think our offense allows for a true #1 WR.

Sparaco saw the talent developing at OLB and decided to move on. As much as I hate to see him go, that has to be a good sign about Callier/Wells/Tchangam
