Greg Schiano - AHC/DC Ohio State University

Not sure why you think this is a joke. He checks off all the boxes AD George is looking for. The OSU defense has been down this year, but that’s because they are banged up and lost a ton of guys to the NFL.

Just for the record, I went to RU and grew up in NJ. Moved to Boulder about 6 years ago. My father went to Ohio State, so I have folllower them as well.

This is going to be a bit rough for you as you get your feet wet. Welcome, now where is my six pack of beer?

I agree with the OP. In my perfect world, Schiano would be our next head coach.

In guess my concern is - after the Rutgers “success” then NFL failure, if he’s so awesome, why isn’t he a head coach instead of a coordinator? That Rutgers thing was like 11 years ago.

His contract had no off-set language, so he had to sit out two years. He was the runner up to jobs at USC and Miami. Per Bruce Feldman, he turned down Oregon and Minnesota, so he has been choosy it seems only looking for the right fit. That was before UT, though, so maybe he'd be more willing to listen to things now. Colorado seems like a good fit based on his personality, too.

COO
COOL. Thanks for the SA

Schiano’s defense is the #57 scoring defense in the country. Colorado is not far behind at #66. Strangely, Colorado is tied with Purdue. The Purdue throttling of tOSU was a bad day for Mr. Schiano. I am sure that Mr. Schiano will be a fine coach for a team someday. It’s just that we need a coach whose defenses don’t give up near a half a hundred to Purdue. We’re scarred enough.

@Schiano to Buffs

Mods change this username. I almost had a heart attack thinking I replied to a thread that was changed to, “Schiano to Buffs” and we hired Greg Schiano. Not cool bro.

Yeah, it’s one down year. It happens when you lose the best player in CFB (Bosa), has 12 guys go to the NFL and most early. The year before under Schiano’s direction the Buckeyes ranked fifth in the nation in fewest yards play allowed. They led the nation with 114 tackles for loss and were third with 45 sacks. I’d agree they’ve been down this year defensively, but he’s still a very good defensive coach.

Heck, even Belichick wanted him last year. He reportedly turned down the Patriots DC gig. Belichick endorsed him for UT job call him one of the finest defensive minds in the game, too. That should mean something. Does to me.

Ohio State recruits in a different universe from Purdue. Even losing good players, Ohio State shouldn’t be a middling scoring defense. Ever. 6-6 Purdue shouldn’t hang 7! TDs on you. Ever.

Schiano aint coming to Colorado.

So one game means you’re a failure? Saban lost to Louisiana-Monroe his first year at Alabama.

Depends on the context. First year in a beleaguered program is different than being the DC in year seven of an elite coach’s reign at a major school with crazy talent all over the place.

In spite of all of his achievements, macintyre was done at colorado after the oregon state game. Some losses are nuclear.

Ohio State is 11-1 with a chance to win the big ten championship. Wouldn’t call that bad nuclear lol - i also think Mac showed he couldn’t get it done a ton of times. That might have been the icing on the cake, though.

It isn’t nuclear for the job at tOSU. It does make him radioactive for us.

I’m trying to understand what the downside to Schiano is?

I’m not saying he is the best choice but when I ask myself who of the realistic, available coaches could come in and outcoach any of the coaches in the Pac 12 North, only Schiano checks that box.

In the Pac-12 South, Schiano immediately gives us the second best coach. He would be behind Whittingham, but I think given time, Schiano could be better than him.

Not as bad as I originally believed in my mind. I’d rather go with other people but this would be intriguing.
