Eric Bien(i)emy's next job speculation, shut out again

I disagree biggly
Whether he has LOTS to do with the KC offense right now, he has the secret sauce, and he can make Running Backs great in any offense!
Maybe he is not interviewing worth a darn and maybe College would have been his thing
The reports are he interviewed terribly last year and, again this year. I simply think he's overrated as a position coach and coordinator. Seems front offices think so too.

That may be the case on interviews, but EB is one of the absolute best running backs coaches and his backs have proven that! It appears he may need to make the college move for now.

How would we look at it if we weren't EB fans? Especially after what we saw with the Broncos with McDaniels. Hard to know if he's not just in an ideal situation where any NFL assistant would look great.

Of all the jobs in the world to interview for, I would think the actual interview would mean close to nothing for a football coach.
Really? I feel like the opposite is true. You can see all they do when they aren’t in your organization/players but the plan they put forward in the interview is probably the most important part.

Kind of a catch 22, though, isn’t it? If he isn’t successful, it’s because he sucks. If he is successful, it’s because he works for Reid. How is he supposed to get any respect in a situation like that?

If the reports we got are to be believed, Jon Embree had a great interview. I’m thinking maybe it would have been a good idea to discount the actual interview and concentrate on his body of work.

Based on EB's stint as an assistant coach at Colorado, I'm shocked the guy is still employed as a coach. I sat a few rows up from the Colorado bench during the Embree/EB era, and all the guy was doing was ranting and raving at the players. It wasn't a good look for him.

I wouldn't be surprised if SOME (certainly not all) of the run that EB gets for HC jobs is because of the Rooney Rule.

I'm cautiously optimistic some of the interviews are sincere and the competition is fierce for those positions.

Does EB see and articulate the big picture required by a head coach?

Does he have the kind of gravitas that translates to a commend version of leadership?

I think these two things are holding him back and likely not fixable.

We don’t see this version under Reid. I suspect it’s still there in some form. And that GMs are a little concerned with it.

His display at CU was bad.

I would have major reservations with EB too given the Reid/Mahomes factor and my own bias from his time at CU with Embree. But I also don’t think Reid has kept him around as a charity case - he’s there doing that job for a reason isn’t he?

I have to believe it's Mahomes more than Reid that has NFL teams skeptical. Both Doug Pederson and Matt Nagy got HC jobs from being OC under Reid, but neither of them had Mahomes.

I'll answer that as I was not a CU fan during the EB playing years and became a fan at the point of EB departing for UCLA:

His time as OC with Embree here at CU was at best neutral. He wasn't a disaster (considering the talent level and situation). I'd hesitate to hire him as an OC, never mind a HC. It's very difficult to know what his true role is within the Andy Reid mastermind system. How successful would he be in other places? Certainly, there is some promise, but that CU stint does not suggest Reid isn't the mastermind.

EB could still be a great HC without being an OC type guru. I'd think his value is much higher at the college level where he could recruit like crazy. If I was his agent, I'd be pushing him towards the CFB game, assuming he's really a willing and able recruiter. I equate his recruiting prowess much like Chev's. Capable, but he didn't make a big impact in his short return to CU. He needs to be the head coach and recruiting coordinator!

I think he’s heavily involved in gameplan development, large roll in install and some playcalling.

Have to think it would be hard for someone who had their sights set on an NFL HC gig (and who probably felt deserving of one), to go back to kissing teenager’s asses on the recruiting trail, but maybe the money would be enough of a motivator.

Plus all the weapons they have on the offensive side of the ball

No, he was just supposed to baby them. Give me a ****ing break.

Did I say that EB should have babied the players at CU? No, I did not. But he needed to try to coach them up a bit. I saw a lot of coaching going on during the MacIntyre era, and on Dorrell's coaching staff. In contrast, EB was a constant trainwreck on the sidelines when he was coaching at CU--it was not helpful to the team's success, or lack thereof.

His sideline demeanor has been much better in the NFL, as another poster pointed out. But there is no way EB's act that he displayed at CU would fly in the NFL, either. I don't think the guy is likely to be capable of running an NFL team as a head coach, and apparently a lot of NFL organizations agree with me. But you know better.

I'll just agree to disagree, you can think what you want, like I give a ****. Your post tells me all I need to know.
