Pac-12 hires MGM's George Kliavkoff to replace Larry Scott as commissioner

Is he taking a redshirt year behind LS or is he gonna be ready to start by July 1? Does he have elite commissioner speed? As I recall Roger Goodell had a 5.53 forty. LS I can't find any info on, he probably buried it out of embarrassment

Why does what matter? The location of the HQ? Vegas is higher profile and far less expensive. If they’re on the hook for the duration of the existing lease, they’re better off staying in order to avoid paying occupancy expenses in two places.
Sublease?

Larry Scott would still be commissioner had he not screwed up the DirecTV negotiations. Outside of his bungling of P12 Net (which I’m not minimizing), he did pretty much everything the conference asked of him. He really seemed to lose all interest once that house of cards fell on his head.
I’ll be very interested to see how the situation with P12 Net is handled going forward.
The ‘own your own TV network’ was Scott’s mistake. It saddled the conference with higher costs, poorer distribution, and less revenue for the members. All the schools Ultimately want in these transactions is money (to run things) and exposure (name recognition to bring in students). They dont want to be in the set top network TV business. It’ll be interesting to see what Kliavkoff does with that part of the business.

It made no sense why the conference didn't put more emphasis on distribution. Kliavkoff seems to get that obvious point, hopefully he gets it done. It's about damm time someone acknowledged this:

“With respect to the Pac-12 Network, I believe it’s part of the future of our media distribution strategy. Today the Pac-12 Network has far fewer subscribers than any other comparable network, and we have to fix that. I think there’s a way to fix that through structuring and relationships. But we have to get the Pac-12 Network distributed every place on every platform that our fans want to be able to consume that content.

Duffman stamp of reasonable and semi-decent approval FTMFW!

I dunno...I for one would also be happy if P12 officiating was also no longer a national laughingstock.
If in a few years, if the P12 is universally recognized as the best officiated sports league in the world and there is no financial improvement.. he will have completely failed and will be fired. Reverse that hypothetical and he will be the greatest commissioner in sports. That goes for everything, which is why this job boils down to 1 thing.

To be fair, At the time the only other conference network was the B1G Fox arrangement. The SEC Network, ACC Network etc had not come along yet.

My guess is Scott pitched the pure greed of a wholely owned conf network and the Pres bought it not realizing he really needed an ESPN, Fox, or Hallmark Ch to dick stomp DTV into submission. Oh well.

🤣

Not a lot of demand for expensive center city office space these days.
Never said there was, laughing at the fact that the PAC12 would get nothing for that space. Working in real estate, views are trending way up as companies are looking to take advantage of current market conditions.

I'm wondering if claiming force majeur over lost revenue due to Covid could get the Pac out of the lease early.

Back to the rent piece, this article shows a pretty good breakdown of what other conferences are doing. I do, however, constantly (literally) wonder why all the talk about having the HQ in Vegas. No other conference has their HQ in a state that doesn’t have conference school in it. That would be weird to me.

I didn't know who the hell this guy was when I first saw it. Looks like a good hire especially if he brings in some lieutenants to handle some things while he makes the money.
