NIL act passed - NCAA allows athletes to monetise their name, image, likeness

I hate to say this, but this is the kind of thing that could actually help bring ****braska athletics back to some semblance of relevance. They are perfectly situated to take full advantage of this. That said, a lot is going to depend on who their next AD is and his/her ability to manage the new landscape. They could end up screwing it up spectacularly.
Meh. There are most certainly some who are not prepared but they will be eventually. This won't turn the tides in their favor drastically.

That’s the whole mystery, though, right? None of has any idea how this is going to change things. It’s all pure speculation on our part. I look at a school like Nebraska who is mired in a deep, dark cycle of sucktitude, but has a rabid fan base who wouldn’t hesitate to pay players if it meant gridiron glory and I think “this could be the thing that breaks that cycle”.
I hope it isn’t. I hate those assholes.

(Assuming it's kept up to date and accurate, it will be fun, at least for me, to see how this list develops. As I type this:
  • There are 14 student-athletes listed, with Caleb Fauria being the only Buff.
  • 8 of the listed are football players, with the remaining being 3 each for MBB and WBB.)

Not going to lie, my memory says I love milos tea and burgers. Today me might not agree though.

Agreed about really no one not knowing what is going to happen, but if a booster is willing to pay a recruit big time money, they are already doing so. Just not under any rules previously

Found a sugar free Milo's 2 gallon jug in the fridge and just poured myself some of that. Some people from my wife's side of the family who live in AL are Auburn fans too.

Nike’s chief concern is their pocketbook and their reputation. Other teams will sign deals elsewhere. That level of sponsorship for Oregon alone will cause a backlash. They won’t do it. But these chicken little scenarios sure are fun.
Nike may end up favoring Oregon because of the Phil Knight connection and the fact that they have already established the Ducks as their "showcase" program but you are right that they are a national (international really but college football for them is a national issue) and they want to promote the brand throughout college football.
To this end it is also to their benefit for college football to be competitive enough to be compelling to a wide audience who will see their endorsed teams and athletes.

The companies that will be the big money sponsors for Nebraska will be the opposite of the Nike situation.

They don't give a (manure) what the rest of the country thinks. They want the fuskers to win and they want fusker fans to associate them with that winning.

Further they have zero competition for targeted athletic marketing in the entire state. Every dollar that goes directly or indirectly to CU athletics is being chased by the Broncos, Rockies, Kroenke Sports, as well as the AFA and CSU. It can also be spent on other recreational pursuits such as the ski crowd, arts fest, concert audiences, etc. Very little of this applies in a state that has nothing but bugeater football and bugeater fans.

The result is that the John Deere dealers, the locally owned banks, the farm and ranch supply retailers, etc. can and will go full speed to be tied to fusker players.

Now all that said they still won't be able to come close to what Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin, etc. will generate and if the money is fairly equal they players still are facing living in Nebraska for a few of what should have been the best years of their lives.

Does anybody know what kind of deals CU players have been able to get so far? What kind of money are they getting?

Seems natural to have an OL be sponsored by a local BBQ joint.

Mission BBQ cracks me up.

It started with two best friends patriotic for Our Country, passionate about BBQ and who believe in running a business with meaning and purpose.

We believe there is nothing more American than BBQ. And nobodymore American than the brave men and women who have sworn to protect and serve Our Communities and Our Country. We do what we do for the love of our soldiers, firefighters, police officers, first responders—all our loved ones in service.”

Me: “Do you guys offer a military discount”
MBBQ: “Sorry, no. But we fully support our troops and appreciate everything they do.”

Did you have an expectation?

It does come across as rather hypocritical. I guess I’d like to know how, exactly, are they supporting our service members.
