Who should be our next head coach?

KD should take a pay cut. RG should take that money, double it, then let KD find some better offensive assistants. Let him know he has two years to turn it around.

Lol
I also want to win the lottery. Why would he agree to a pay cut?

KD can always go back to the NFL. Can quit and still get his full pay out if CU tries to make his work environment difficult violating the terms of his contract.

It’s obvious Dorell isn’t the guy but since this is CU, I fully expect that he’ll be the coach next year and dig the hole even deeper.

God forbid anyone here admit they’ve made a terrible mistake and immediately take corrective actions.
We've been talking on this board about a buyout number of $7.5m this year and $5m after 12/31, but those are actually what Dorrell would owe CU if he left voluntarily, not what CU would owe him if he was fired without cause.

Supposedly, the buyout for firing him is around $15m if he's fired before 1/1/22 and then drops to something like $11m during 2022. Basically, RG gave Dorrell a guaranteed $18m contract that he will be owed in full by CU regardless, that has zero stipulations around performance. $5m-$7.5m would be a doable buyout, IMO, but $11m-$15m is far too much for CU to give away, so I don't see any chance it happens, short of Dorrell himself feeling like he's in over his head and decides he should move on.

He gets more time, maybe a second contract if the turnaround succeeds. That's the best I got.

The title of the thread.

First season 4-2
Second season 1-4, 7 gamges left.

Fire him lol?
What if he goes 0-7 in the remaining games and 1-11 on the season. You, yourself said as long as he's showing improvement he should get another year or two. What would 4-2 in year one and 1-11 in year two mean?

I'm willing to bet KD's future hinges on the Arizona game. We lose that and we're not winning another game. 1-11, baby. We lose on 10/16 and I'm pretty sure Dorrell is gone the following week. It doesn't help that both radio soprts stations had lengthy segments this morning, trashing the program's status at the moment and absolutely ripping into KD for shovig the cameraman.

If RG gave him a fully guaranteed contract, we are irreparably ****ed.

Karl Dorrell is an excellent coach. Success won't happen overnight. It will take time to rebuild the program.
This program was 5-7 for three straight years and 10-4 the year prior to that. There is no rebuild here. It's trying to get over the hump and consistently become a 6-7 win program and continue building off that. He has taken a program on the cusp of that and run it into the ground.

Yeah. Please tell me more about how, in a normal season last year we have a winning record. Also, please tell me more on how this team is trending in the right direction this season and things look bright ahead. C'mon lil camper, you can do it! I want to see what your 14 year old brain comes up with.

If CU were to fire Dorrell, 57, without cause, the coach will be owed his remaining salary in the year the termination occurred, as well as whatever other unpaid compensation remains in the contract.

The real question is if KD didn't get a fully guaranteed contract why is the person that negotiated the deal for him still employed by KD?

You’re not answering my question. You specifically said this would be another bad decision. What bad decisions are you referring to?

My head hurts.

WHY THE ****ING ****ING **** WOULD YOU FULLY GUARANTEE A CONTRACT ON ANY HEAD COACH, LET ALONE KARL DORRELL? ARE YOU ****ING KIDDING ME? WTAFF?
This is my favorite quote from the Buffzone article at the time
“I support the contract,” regent John Carson said. “I think upping the penalty for leaving before the contract expires was necessary and a welcomed change.”
Rick George and the administration were SO distraught with losing Tucker and not getting much in return that they overcorrected and made it so there's no chance Dorrell is leaving on his own accord, but paid no attention whatsoever to the *likely* scenario of Dorrell being horrible and CU wanting to fire him.

Par. For. The. Course.

Huh? Also, answer the questions that people are posing to you. You say Dorrell gets to keep his job as long as he's showing improvement. What improvement has he shown in two years by going 4-2 and so far 1-4??

I was never on the fire RG train, but learning this has changed that. Rick’s inability to negotiate contract terms will be the dirt on the coffin for this program.

No one really still thinks hiring Dorrell was a good idea, do they?

Very few did the day he was hired. This has been a big factor in the fan reaction four games into season two. If the fan base had been excited by the hire and the results to date were the same, the loud cry for change would be there but not nearly as loud. Dorrell lacked the benefit of doubt from day one.

I have to start applying for these CU jobs....
