Official CU-Oregon Pregame/Game Thread

Here’s what I think:
- there’s a lot less talented teams/players out there that look like they are putting in a lot more effort and having much better results.
- also, P5 football players are the pinnacle of the sport. Much like them, I have busted my ass to get to where I am. But when I watch this team, I can’t help but think “why don’t you have as much pride in what you do as I do in what I do?” And if you’re going to tell me that they are trying hard, so it’s good enough, just watch that play by the Oklahoma freshman quarterback. That was “try”. That was “give a ****.”
- and yeah, if you want to come to my work and try to talk **** about what I do, you’re more than welcome. DM me.
Just let me know where you work and I’ll come by some day. I’ll bring some team parents and we’ll have a good ol time.

And what about the normal students and parents who are leveraging everything they have financially to attend this (any) school while the football team that putting out absolute dog **** yet getting their entire stay paid for? Can they talk all the **** they want? That seems fair.
Your kid picked a school based on the success of a football program? What kind of idiot does that???
Must be horrible to have a kid that isn’t intelligent enough to get a scholarship.
See, when you start attacking people’s children, it turns personal and can get hurtful. If you aren’t smart enough to see that, that’s a you problem.

If you don’t want to read criticism of the team, don’t read a fan message board dedicated to the football team. I feel like this should be obvious.

I can’t believe you’re still going on about this because of one comment that wasn’t even that personal and has since been deleted. Sounds like mom/dad need to grow thicker skin, not necessarily the player

I think prejudices against obese people and those who speak with Southern accents may be the last two widely social acceptable forms of bigotry in the US.
"Y'all" is not an accent. It's a choice that people make (in written form) that I suspect is an attempt to make them appear folksy. But taking the time to write out "y'all" to create an appearance comes with the risk that the appearance they're creating is looking illiterate.

My kids don’t go to college yet. You’re an idiot.

I'm happy to talk CU football. Particularly the matchup on Saturday.

I think the key to the game is how our left tackle is able to handle Oregon's star defensive end. How do you see that matchup going?
It’s going to be tough. #60 is gonna have his hands full. He’s definitely going to be seeing his toughest matchup yet. Hopefully the OC can set a formation that gives him some help with Thibodeaux. I haven’t watched a ton of Oregon football this year, but I bet most teams double team a player like him.
Hopefully we can establish a run game like we did against A&M (god forbid I say Texas before some goofball thinks I’m talking about last year when Wiley wasn’t playing) and stay in the game and surprise them with a win. Sko Buffs.
Y’all need to spend some time in the friends and family section at a CU game. It’s not that hard to talk football without taking shots at players.

Dude-we could triple a guy like Thibodeaux and he'd still get 3-4 sacks. Our scheme is that freaking bad. Stop it.

Your accusations about taking shots are falling flat, simply because they are not true. Stop making stuff up to feed your insincere (I suspect) outrage.

although this raises an interesting point -- as more and more communication takes place in electronic written form vs spoken form, it is becoming increasingly common for people to type terms as the writer/speaker would state verbally (e.g. "Imma", "feelin", "wanna", "gansta"). Rightfully or not, I guess I put "y'all" in the same category.

Oh, so you’re just talking out your ass. Got it. When you have a dog in the fight, come back and we can talk. Until then, back of the line.
This guy puts his ass on the line every day to post on this board (not to mention by flying thousands of hours off of aircraft carriers in designated combat zones) and you insult him like this? Shame on you!

What seems lost on you is that football (and sports more broadly) is a form of entertainment - the players, while hard working, are ultimately entertainers. They get to do what they do because of fans. Just like bands get criticized when an album stinks or a live performance falls flat, athletes are open to similar criticism. You, and the player’s parents you know, really need to stop concerning yourselves with what people are saying on the internet.

Just to clarify for @hawg1 and others, I was the one with the offending post. I was going to let it go and move on, but since it is grist for the mill, and Berger seems comfortable telling his side of the exchange in public, I no longer feel constrained to keep quiet, as I was out of deference to Berger. There was no mod intervention, Berger expressed his/her displeasure in response to my post, I saw it and DM'ed Berger. I said I agreed it was thoughtless to say what I said, I removed it and requested the quote of my post be deleted if Berger were so inclined. Berger graciously did so. I resolved to try and be more considerate of the circumstances and leave personal comment out of it. I had hoped that would be the end of it. Apparently not.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled **** show.
