CU Buffs hire former Minnesota OC Mike Sanford as their new OC

I am glad to finally know what the kid from the first Mighty Ducks movie meant by calling Adam Banks “cake eater”.

Hot Dish - in both meanings - is excellent!

Minnesota Nice is a thing. My in-laws have vacationed up in North Central MN lake country for a few generations now. I’ve been going for the better part of 20 years. I got pulled over in Park Rapids once for going 40 in a 35. Probably the most pleasant police encounter of my life. No ticket, either. I’ve never been to the cities, but I’ve heard that it’s nice. Of course I hear about “Nebraska Nice”, but that is just passive aggressive BS. The Omaha metro area is full of a mix of those that still believe it’s the 1960’s/70’s…and those that think they need to keep a “big city” lifestyle…which Omaha doesn’t have the resources to do so. Once you get far enough west…it’s the same generic small town/city with a Methamphetamine problem. Lincoln just sucks in general.

I’m definitely not sold on Sanford as OC. This seems like a “safe” hire that will blow up in CU’s face. It definitely feels like this will keep KD around for his entire contract now.

I was actually thinking the opposite. Considering his apparent track record of making offenses worse, I was thinking the best case scenario would be he just does what he does and forces them to get rid of KD.

It’s a sad state that I’m glad a new hire will be an unknown.
Unknown but having run some potent offenses. I assume this means he's currently a lower level coordinator transitioning to WR coach, or a current WR coach who has coordinated good offenses in the past. Brennan Marion fits the bill, so it's him until it's not

Sure we need guys that can help the school close on targets. But CU biggest problem is still talent evaluation and coaching. We simply have not had good talent development and have done a poor job at talent evaluation. Even the so called 5 stars or 4 stars we got were actually 2 star or 3 stars. Talent evaluaation should also include non football metrics like is he a good student? and is he a hard worker(character)? Also need to evaluate medical history. No more taking chances on players,

The bolded feels like a projection.

To some it is just about composite scores, rankings, and did the other programs offer him. The popular one is if we get many swings, eventually we will connect.
Recruiting not that simple. The reality is CU can't recruit like USC or Alabama. We have to work harder on talent evaluation and coaching. Until things change with the NCAA, our goal should be to model the program like Utah or Boise State. We will probablby get mostly 3 stars and maybe a few 4 stars. Better have quality at bats,

Not a single person on this board is saying or has ever said we need to recruit like Bama or USC. Everyone has said this program being in a P5 conference should aim higher than "we should be like Boise State".

Thank you for explaining that to me.
