I agree that this Ashley woman seems like a real piece of work, but I don’t think it’s fair to judge people by things other people say on Twitter. That’s a crazy standard.
This can't be real, can it? If so, fvck this fvcking piece of sh!t.
The question is simple. Is he following her because he aligns with her beliefs or to drag her when she says stupid things? If it's the former, he should be fired.

Actually, 100%. He can have a twitter account under any handle he wants. When he's tweeting about all kinds of CU stuff as the AD, and then he follows (which is in fact a form of support) folks who are (frankly) racists, bigots, homophobes, etc, how does that help the mission of CU recruiting athletes that his very AD depends on? You can't follow some of these people and then claim ignorance. Rick George is a complete piece of ****. He needs to go. And yes, what he's following on twitter matters a lot.

She is a representative in the state of which he happens to run the flagship university’s athletic department. I would think it would benefit Rick to have a pulse on a lot of CO politics, no?
I followed Donald Trump because I wanted to know what he was saying, not because I agreed with him.
I follow other people whom I dont agree with that I may have met in life or are a friend of a friend or are connected to a topic Im trying to follow.
So I dont think its an indictment of someone based on who they follow.
Is this woman a CU alum? Or connected to George thru his time at Illinois or in MLB?
Sports organizations are notoriously conservative and bend strongly towards Christianity. Most are not as obvious about it as Bill McCartney was. The GOP in our country is becoming more radically Christian and the views shes discussing in that tweet are things that are being legislated (Florida) or hopefully by the right litigated back to being ok. There is a faction of our society that wants to roll back some things and put certain groups back in the closet or make them choose to be a pariah.

Staying aware of what influential people are saying or reading is valuable if you are going to deal with the issues they are involved in.
Ignoring them or pretending like they don't exist doesn't leave much room for responding or even having an understanding of what others are responding to.
That said I made a conscious decision when I was teaching to stay off public social media. No facebook, no twitter, no instagram or tik tok, etc. This was done because even though I wouldn't be posting anything embarrassing (hopefully) I wanted to protect the privacy of myself and my family.
My entire social media presence is the relative anonymity of allbuffs and a very minimal linkedin page which I opened for work purposes.
It would be better if figures like RG were more proactive in either unfollowing or stating clear opposition to post and or posters with positions contrary to the values and stated policies of the organizations the they work for in positions to influence the making and/or implementation of those policies and positions.
At the same time someone like RG is in a position to influence policy but if he were on a personal account he still has a right to his own views and opinions.
I hold some positions which do not conform to the majority on this site, I also hold many positions in agreement. Freedom of speech and thought is not dependent on agreement with certain groups of people.
Or maybe, like me, he follows some people because of an unrelated common interest and may get unpleasantly surprised when he bothers to check his feed by some of the things people say.
Case in point, I ran into an unprovoked "I didn't own slaves" rant from a Buffs fan on MLK Day. I would hope no one assumes I share that attitude.

Sooooooooooooooo RG's follows are bad. Like, bad bad. About as bad as you can get. Idk if it's worth firing him for, but it's an extremely bad look for the university and for him as a person. At the minimum he should be required to have someone else run his Twitter account. If you don't believe me, just keep reading.

His actions represent our university and hooooollly **** it's bad. If he wants to follow these people and see their viewpoints on twitter he should make a second account.

Mollie Hemmingway, the editor in chief of the Federalist, a publication that defended Roy Moore for being a pedophile under the argument that dating teenagers is "not without some merit if one wants to raise a large family".

These are all public figures and their histories are well known. I'm somewhat well versed in online politics and was shocked that RG was following these types of people on an account linked to the University. If RG isn't a far right lunatic he sure seems to follow a lot of them on twitter. Even if he followed them before all of this happened he is still a representative of this university and it's his responsibility to control his public persona. It's embarrassing that out AD follows literal Nazis on Twitter. People that don't even hide it. I know it's just a ****ing internet follow, but what a ****ing disgrace. Huh. It's almost like there's a difference between following someone that I disagree with and following someone that openly promotes hate. These don't represent my values and I really would prefer if they weren't the values of people that publicly represent my university. Maybe you disagree. Or, maybe you find some of these views not so offensive.
Wow. I’ve never seen someone take social media so seriously before. A little startling to be honest.
Even if RG is a right wing guy, which he seems to be, does that mean he has to agree with everything his Twitter follows post? Does that also mean that due to being a Republican he is automatically incapable of running an athletic department?
Also, what has RG done during his long tenure here, I’m talking actions not what you believe is in his head, that shows he is a racist Nazi lover? Was it when he hired consecutive African American coaches and has shown a genuine friendship and bond with both those coaches? Or maybe it’s because he decided to have his good friend Lance Carl as his Associate AD and head of Diversity and Inclusion.
If you’re open to some constructive advice here, lay-off the social media and stop trying to put someone in a neat little box based on our current political landscape. Judge them on their actions and words instead.
RG hasn’t been the greatest AD in the world, but it has nothing to do with his political leanings or Twitter follows.
