Official 2022 Fall Camp Thread

Hear me out. Every single guy who left was a bad attitude guy. A cancerous teammate one might say. All the guys who stayed WANT to win.
Therefore, we will shock the world and win, all because our guys WANT it more.
Good thought on paper. Often turns out that way. But talent was lost. Some gained for sure, but net loss IMO

You mights have seen Adam’s response elsewhere where departures would have ranked on his Top 30 list. It’s a drain from the talent no matter how you slice it.

This is quite a statement. Every team gets better every year?

And the Buffs only get worse. Every year.

Most of the teams in the pac got better. CU does not get worse every year but they did this year overall. They will not be better than last year by a long stretch.

We also will be a dog in every single game this year. Not favored to win 1 based on the market in the betting world. Were we a dog in every conference game last year? That is regression versus the conference as a whole. Either they all got better or some did and some did not be we got much worse than even the ones who regressed. Anyone pumping that this is a team with much hope is not seeing reality when it comes to what we will end up seeing. I will pull my ass of for them but that does not change what they are

I'm excited to see some of the Youth step up this year with an improved coaching and strength staff.

The battle between Woods and Dixson should be fun to watch at S

Hankerson and Venn at RB

Fauria and Olsen at TE

Robinson, Penry, Tyson, Page, and Sowell at WR might be an incredible youth movement

and I'm nervous about too much youth at CB, hahaha!

I agree wholeheartedly.

While he's not "new," I just listened to the interview with Deion Smith, and he is now one of my favorite players. That kid is so well spoken and thoughtful. I know he's been here forever, but he still seems a bit new, as he's not had much time on the field. In the bits I've seen of him, he has a real burst and finishing speed. I have high hopes that the lightbulb comes on completely for him this year, because he has a ton of physical talent. I consider him in the realm of "new" players to watch that no one really knows how good they can be.

Clearly, we need a few of the guys who have been around for a while to take that leap to the next level, like Roddick. He's had awful luck with injuries and illness, but this year he could be an absolute anchor on the line. Fingers crossed.

Phil Steele has a metric with a pretty great track record of looking at conference YPG +/- versus win record the next year. Anyway, it projects that our win record will drop NY. Only one team in the country projects worse than us.

See! Knew Mel Tucker was a fraud.

Love all current and former Buffs….but Rice having 0 catches this year might not be the worst thing for to get guys to think about staying put.
I admit to a weakness of character in the schadenfreude I felt when Rice chose to leave being the No. 1 receiver for us for the mere possibility of being the No. 3 or 4 receiver at USC and then USC brings in the Pitt receiver as their clear No. 1, sliding Rice down yet another notch and—likely—out of the starting line up.

Grass is always greener….

Rice had bought in to the Dorrell BS. Last season, he was a leader and voiced patience and belief. I respect him for that. He has immense talent and while folks were transferring, he was preaching team and system. He took a stand to believe in Dorrell while most folks identified the guy for the fraud he is - he is simply over his head. Rice would be better off as the WR1 here, but environmatters too. Dorrell has brought a losing culture to Boulder, that is a tough place to be if you are a talented player. I have zero interest in blaming or criticizing Rice for leaving (despite the fact I really wish he were in camp right now). The issue is and will continue to be Dorrell until his lack luster azz is shown the door. Rice may not be WR3 at USC but he's an excellent team mate and player.

Rice (And Stanley, Broussard, and others) transferred because he had 21 receptions for 299 yards and 2 TDs last season as CU’s WR1, and he saw an opportunity with Lincoln freaking Riley at USC to increase his brand and NFL prospects. I don’t think it had anything to do with some kind of losing culture. They all came into a losing culture at CU. They knew the offense was starting over and they weren’t interested in that

AB is definitely negative about the team and program. Not anywhere close to the usual sunshine that comes during camp.

But I've been on 247 to read Adam's camp updates and it's weird. He's tempered and even apologized in advance for what he knew would be a lot of super positive spin he'd be reporting. I'm more than cool with that. However, the reaction posts to those camp reports may have given me a sunburn 🥵

I think where I'm at is that I don't believe we have a good team but we have a potentially competitive team which, if there's good chemistry among players and with the staff on the same page, could make this season's results similar to 2019.

My hope is that stability matters. 2020 was a 3rd HC in 3 years. 2021 was so much broken on the offensive side. 2022 is year 3 for KD and it's fully his organization with people he chose & players who are committed to his program (or at least finishing strong in their Buff careers). We should see a big improvement unless KD is simply the wrong guy to rebuild CU back to respectability.

That's BS. You're not an excellent teammate when you quit on the team. Particularly if you were a leader and "excellent player". Great teammates are those that apply their talent and leadership to forcefully make everyone on the team better.

Looking out for #1 is opposite of your characterization.
Did you pay attention at all last year? Rice was a leader in keeping the tram and coaches vision intact- despite Dorrell being an incompetent f....
Before you say he was selfish or lacking leadership and a quality teammate, spend 5 minutes googling his communications on social media and with the media during a difficult 2021 season. Rice was the one throwing up the duece duece sign when players left and was often quoted as saying "stay the course".
It wasn't until Dorrell hired one of the worst OC's to replace the worst OC that Rice tapped out and also could not get NIL deals of any relevance.
Rice didn't hire mediocrity, nor did he sit on the sidelines and watch schools offer players $ while CU did nothing. He was a by stander and did what was best for him, after giving his all to CU. It may have not been the optimal move, but staying at CU under Dorrell is a shi... option to be stuck with.

You speak in generalizations! Define your "net loss".

My sense: (TP only, graduation is part of the deal): Gonzales, yes. Blackmon, meh. Broussard, meh. Perry, meh; Rice, TBD and genes only. (Rice didn't live with his dad and get benefit of his experience); everyone else is break-even.

Other than that, we are looking mainly at "inexperienced", just like we were when Blackmon, Rice and Gonzales arrived. Guys remaining here have a couple years under Turley and need to be coached up at their positions and the ONLY way to break/get over "inexperienced" is to play!

Talent level I see, is equal to, if not a fair bit better than Midnight Mel's, if those 24/7 numbers mean anything at all. (as I recall YOU keep insisting they do: recruit, recruit, recruit! Right?)

He is not the guy. It will show again this year. He does not have P5 talent nor does he recruit it And he could not keep the P5 talent he did have. He is just a guy who is an average position coach and a horrible HC

The players that departed are talented. They would have ranked high on this Board’s Top 30 list. More talent departed than arrived. It’s a net loss.
