Prime is Polarizing

Mac openly spoke out about homosexuality being an abomination, and progressed into filling Folsom Field with Men to start Promise Keepers (upsetting feminists). This became a source of serious friction in the community towards the tail end of his tenure.

Prime, is equally outspoken about his faith, but also outwardly respectful of other faiths, and says that his way is not for everyone, but it changed/saved his life.

Very different situations.

There is a lot about sports that is different from a normal workplace. Lots of focus on religion by outsiders, but also things like fighting. Coaches pushing and then letting things go because some fights at practice are a good thing sometimes. That's normal. It would be treated very differently if fisticuffs were a regular part of how a professor got academic project teams to pull together and be ready for an exam.

I also recall a number of fliers being posted around campus attacking Mac and his outspoken religious persuasion. I'm not 100%, but I think some fliers depicted Mac with a swastika.

I recall my reaction (to the criticism, and not the swastika) was "yeah, I kind of agree, but FOOTBALL! GO BUFFS!"

Today, my reaction is not much different.
I worked with a guy who drew a picture of Coach Mac on a cross, with the text "The Father The Son. The Holy Coach" around it. He then proceeded to put it on a t-shirt and wear it in the kitchen of our work place. I, of course, was a big Buffs fan, but I still thought it was pretty funny.

This is all old news. The issue was addressed a month or two ago. Prime was very understanding and respectful and everyone is cool.

Next!

There will be friction between a very secular and progressive population with anyone who is explicitly Christian (and the same applies if someone is explicitly an atheist in a very Christian area). The issue doesn’t matter and advocacy groups on all sides constantly make statements and demands. Boulder is an upper middle class, progressive, and white enclave there are going to be cultural snafus with people who do not fit that category.

Coach Prime leads his life in gratitude, and expresses that gratitude in the tradition that feels most appropriate for him. At the University of Colorado, we recognize that the Christian Religion has been deeply intertwined with Black American culture for centuries, and we celebrate Black culture and Black Americans year round, not just in February. Coach Prime's invitation to others to join him in gratitude is culturally appropriate and a beautiful way to share his traditions with the Boulder community.

I've been going on haywire on here the past couple days, but as someone that fundamentally does and did disagree with lots of people that live in Boulder when I went to school, I never once felt tension with people that thought differently than me. If you don't go after the people of Boulder they won't go after you. Prime seems to be accepting of other beliefs and shares his. He is a perfect example of being passionate about something but respecting differing opinions.

You are the man!

I'm glad we can come to an agreement that coach Mac is literally not Hitler. Yay common ground! 👍
"Coach Prime is at the center of a controversy"*

*a controversy fomented, amplified and perpetuated by Fox News and its angry boomer viewers who need a short break from trans outrage to focus on good ol' Christian persecution outrage

Make sure you're up to date on your angina medication there steph
Coach Prime - prays with athletes
Left wing and right wing groups - write letters to cu chancellor
Fox news - writes about it
Democrats - "why would fox do this?"
Lmao, my Jesus you're dumb
You’ll want to hold on to this one when folks here on AB say that there’s no such thing as white privilege.
Wanting to prevent crime is white privilege. Trying to give citizens safe drinking water is white privilege... Your entire worldview is low IQ and based on falsehoods, see below
PAHI picked a helluva week to defend Fox News as a credible alternative news source.

I forgive steph, however.
It's comical how someone could live through the last 23 years and still have trust in the corporate press. The Mississippi senate amended HB 1020 to remove the part about unelected justices - the link below was written THREE ****ING DAYS before the cnn article was written. Fox sucks but my Jesus are you stupid if you think that's an argument. Hurr Durr, my ****e sandwich tastes better than your sewer beer!

You have a funny definition of "news."
You have a funny definition of scientific and mathematical literacy. All of you, please remember to get your updated covid boosters. You are killing grandma if you don't

I'm taking the piss out of everyone. I'm the chilliest of all chili's in the room dawg, y'all just make it too damn easy... I don't think coach Mac was Hitler but I do think he went a bit overboard with the religion stuff!!! Honestly, me too dawg, but it's hysterical you felt the need to say that
I think you're one of the posters that's supposed to kick it up a notch.

With pride.... Let's see what my favorite outspoken Jesus loving black man said this week. Ope, there it is, quite honestly IDC, he can say what he wants (as long as it's reasonably respectful) but my progressive reee alarm went off. Lets check in on progresso world, I bet they're disassociating and blaming conservatives. Annnnnd, I remain undefeated! Thanks for letting me stop by but your parties suck and I no longer care to reach common economic reform ground with a group so arrogant in their own ignorance... See you at Folsom. Love you coach prime

It’s always lovely to be lectured about proper “news” sources by the person who mused that Colorado should avoid hiring another black head coach since other black coaches were unsuccessful.
I always thought that sometimes you were being deliberately obtuse just to set up one of your smarmy remarks, but am starting to realize there is nothing deliberate about it.

So why is Fox News running a story about this again? What do you think they hope to accomplish?

Sports evolved from the military systems so are similar in a sense.
