2023 Transfer Portal

Good grief that's a killer list compete with. Have to wonder why we didnt offer a year or 2 ago. Did Quincy look better? Maybe his family would like to be able to go to home games.
A year ago Dalton Knecht was the 6th leading scorer on UNC and our 13th ranked recruiting class just finished their freshman years and Javon and Quincy were coming back from injuries.

How the turns have tabled

Might be worth him looking at how Tad transitioned a guy from a lower level program (D. White) into an NBA prospect.

UCCS is D2 and UNC is technically D1 but the programs are closer to each other than they are to being power level schools.

Not in any was saying that Dalton is a future NBA draft choice but if that is his dream Tad has a history.

Real possibility? Tad has one of the top players in the country coming. I would think any top transfer is a real possibility for several reasons.
Bamba wants to be The Man in the backcourt somewhere. Between KJ and Williams, that ain't happening here.

Caleb Love leaving North Carolina, any chance CU or he would be interested? He averaged about 17 a game.

Based on reports of tension in the UNC locker room this year, I strongly suspect he wants to go somewhere it can be the Caleb Love Show so he can feature himself to pro scouts. If I'm right, I don't think CU wants any part of that. Great college player, though.

Absolutely ridiculous amounts of talent hitting the portal right now. If Tad can't pull 2 game changers from this pool, we have a problem.
tangent thought from this comment....

I've long perceived that very few schools have had any sustained conincidental high level of success at both football and men's basketball (Florida had a good run, Michigan, UCLA, I guess maybe we throw Alabama in that crowd now. Wisconsin came close for a while. I'm sure I'm forgetting others). I've speculated with freinds and family that it's probably really hard to recruit top basketball players to what's perceived as a football school and vice-versa (chime in if you think I'm off-base here).

assume Sanders is resoundingly successful as a football coach here (e.g. winning the conference and making the CFP in the next two years)

what's the pitch Boyle makes to transfers and recruits who give off vibes they don't want to come to a football school? It's not really something he's had to deal with before.

If that is true, heard some talk about that, you know damn well Tad wouldn't. As a fan, I wouldn't want to see that bull**** either.

Nm double post.

feels like football and basketball fans/cultures are drifting further and further apart, combine that with the engrained tradition of schools creating lifelong fans/donors via alumni (I look at UofA as being a very good example of this, there is no reason Tucson should be a top bball destination on paper, but Lute created a culture that is passed down through generations of Tucson locals)

if Tad could take any inspiration from Prime, maybe he could be a bit flashier and less folksy. I'm not talking Pitino, Calipari, Wright here, but somewhere in the middle (along with better support and investment from the AD in marketing)

also, it's wild to me that schools like UW and USC aren't also top 25 in football and basketball every year

It's hard to be great at all of the Big 3 sports. But I see a future where CU could be the AD which puts a FB team in the playoffs and both MBB & WBB in the Sweet 16 in the same year. Throw in our national championship contenders in M/W XC & Ski + regular playoffs in WSOC, WVB and WLAX. CU is poised to establish itself as a national power in athletics.

I believe

So does this mean we can get men’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s hockey and baseball + softball?

Beach Volleyball and Triathlon are the Women's sports to add. CU can be nationally ranked in both and the scholarships would balance for the addition of either MLAX or MSOC. I think that's the move if CU expands its varsity sports offerings.

Just reflecting we got crazy lucky this offseason that 3 of the top 20 transfers prepped in Colorado and Tad has a long history recruiting the state well. Also, the pay off of coaching USA basketball as one of his former players on the teams happen to be transferring and all 4 Ike, Knecht, Bamba, and Ware all fit roster needs.

Last years highest was Devin Carter at 59 who played his first two years at Creek who played his freshman year at South Carolina and there was nobody else in the top 100.
