Spring game - April 22, 2023 - LIVE ON ESPN

Knew I was gonna miss the first part of The Colorado Spring Game broadcast so I did the dvr record dance.

I haven't been this excited or curious about a televised CU football game (event) since the Sefo/Phil game vs the yoots.

Jeebus Cristobal.

That was 7 years ago.

Just got home from the game, and post game chow at Efrains.

Pros: Great time. Crowd showed out. Got to see my son, his new mustache, and his hungover college buddies. Weather was better than expected. Low clouds made the flatirons a beautiful sight. Offense looks competent for the first time in over a decade. Efrains green chile was outstanding.

Cons: My "designated driver" wife got drunk with our friends and forced me to be the responsible one.

In summary: Fixing to break into the Basil Rye to make up for my forced sobriety. Lots to look forward to this fall.

What impressed me most about that was that in spite of all that was going on and on his mind, Coach Prime was 100% focused on her and in the moment. That's special and a lot different than other coaches we have had who either in their own world or always had their head & eyes scanning to see if there was a camera or someone more "important" they could be interacting with.

Fwiw, Tad's got that too.

I love me some Coach Prime.
I haven’t seen him in person, but in the videos CP has the ability to greet someone and for that minute that person is genuinely the center of attention. He isn’t pretending to be happy to see whoever it is. It’s no wonder there are so many smiles around him.
Seeing the players kid around with him too seems very healthy. “Coldest coach in America” was very funny.

from an ESPN story:

"The former Florida State and NFL star kicked things off by allowing 98-year-old Colorado superfan Peggy Coppom to take the opening kickoff. Sanders escorted her up to the ball, which she kicked to a giant cheer. After the game, Sanders called Coppom the MVP.

"She was quick, her first step was unbelievable," Sanders said. "She was very physical when she grabbed me and made sure I held her arm."

I admit I didn't read through this entire thread, but what was the word on Jimmy Horn Jr? I tried to keep an eye out for him, but never saw him playing. I might've missed it with having 2 kids with me at the game, but I thought I caught most of the action.

He has a minor injury. They didn't want to risk anything.

Had a groin injury from earlier in the week

I believe there has been talk of Shedeur not having that strong of an arm while being extremely accurate. Maybe that is true from an NFL prospect perspective, but what I saw today was a stronger arm than I have seen at CU in a decade.

The game in person was awesome. I got pushed/stuck into parking on the roof of the parking garage east of the Eng Bldg. I left when the 2nd half moved to 7 on 7 to not spend an hour getting out of the garage. That mostly worked - I wasn't alone in that idea.

I've since watched the replay. Mrs. Highlander thought that was the funniest thing ever "Didn't you JUST see this in person?!?" and now I'm watching the 30 on 30.

I haven't been this excited for CU football since the B2B NC competing seasons while also noting special teams are a train wreck and the lines need some major, major upgrades.

We comin'!
Don't sleep on Sanders, and he's getting a lot better as well

Nice to see some hype for a CU QB like that but if Ewers plays the whole season and does a good job for the Longhorns, I don't see how Sanders is ahead of Ewers in that list.

Curious how the 2025 NFL Draft QB class is shaping up. Maybe Shedeur will have a better draft position that year.

Got home from the game, tucked the boy in then settled into the couch with some old forester 1920 and the DVr. But one question. Do we still hate ESPN as a shill for the sec or do we love them as a shill for CP? I get confused when things move this fast
As I achieve deeper consciousness, I have learned that both those things can be true.

On your first point, as much as many disliked his attitude and never developing, forgetting that Montez has elite, top level arm strength is silly. Shrout also possessed a cannon but couldn't hit the ocean if he fell out of a boat.

Montez could have easily taken the Buffs to bowl games in 17,18, and 19 had he developed, or was the same kid that he was in the 2016 Oregon game.

Had shrout been able to take a snap…he may have had a better chance to complete a pass.
