2025 Spring Football

For a while I have thought it would be appropriate to allow college teams play another team for the spring game and an exhibition/closed scrimmage in August - by choice. At some point it's important for players and coaches to get a sense of where they are at in preparation for the first competitive game.

There should be an exhibition game/scrimmage in the Spring and another one in Fall camp. Then, the cupcake scheduling most teams participate in for September should go away.

Nah, if I had to guess it'd be an HBCU or something.

Also, CU pro day on NFL Network.

I've mentioned before but I would love to see CU host a regional combine in conjunction with their pro day.

They could still set it up to highlight Buffs players, maybe one session in a prime slot that is CU only but if they were to bring in the top kids from the local G5 schools as well as select players from the RMAC and even FCS players from Montana and the Dakotas.

The pro teams would almost all send somebody because it would be a way to make sure they don't miss out. The more pro scouts the better for the marginal CU guys who don't go to Indy.

It would also bring media from all over the region to campus further supporting the message that CU is "the" flagship college program in the region and that Boulder is a special campus where students should aspire to go.

I'm all for Atkins being that guy, and I assume that's what their plan is, but they were a lock for Caleb Odom until Ole Miss threw the bag at him at the 11th hour. This offense really needed that Evan Engram type of big bodied receiving TE and they just don't have it.
Evan Engram is a lot of things. A big body is not one of them.

If you allow it but require it to be a team from another level (FCS down for BCS programs) you let your players see things that don't look exactly like yours in practice without having it look like a gauge on your season.

It also let's those programs get a payday without as you mention being a cupcake on the actual season schedule.

Because the AD is slow to update the website, here's the spring player roster with numbers. Offense first.

Spring Football thread has been great today, thanks dudes!

Observations: Gooden is a man, ILB corps might be better than expected, Mikell and QX are playing this year, and Peko looks like a ****ing minotaur.
Gibson will play too. QX and Mikell will be the breakthrough guys this season. Our WRs will be just as good as last year, maybe better if O comes back close to 100%.

That dline might be the best position group on the team (or WR's)

The more and more I think about it, our defensive opponents are proper fvcked this year. Imagine last year if SS2 had been a real RPO threat. And instead of holding the ball to extend plays, he took off with speed. With the weapons we have and that threat, DCs are going to have a real problem.

I'm never sure how to feel when Lama is being positive about any of our teams.

That article confirms this is against the rules. So looks like it’s not gonna happen unless the NCAA changes their rules in less than a month

The only mention I saw of the rules is this, and it doesn't say for sure that it's against the rules

There may yet be some hurdles — is NCAA approval needed, for example? In any case, it’s nice to see coaches trying to innovate in the ever-changing world of college athletics. And few are as cutting edge in their approach as Deion Sanders.

I'm all for this. Unless a friend group is going and it's a nice day, I have little interest in the traditional format spring game glorified practice.

I haven't watched this video yet. Just started.
He did mention that rule changes will have to happen.
