2018-2019 Coaching Carousel..

In all seriousness, MM would be a very solid hire for GA Tech. It's a bit different for them within the region as an AAU member institution with that academic culture as an engineering school. There's a reason they went with a guy from a military academy last time. MacIntyre gets all of that stuff, went to the school himself, and actually emphasizes recruiting more than Johnson did. One of the reasons that MM's connections for the CU staff struggled in recruiting is that their strength was in Georgia, Florida and the Carolinas (along with some Mississippi/Alabama/Kentucky/Tennessee). He's a much better fit for GA Tech. Only reason he found his way to CU is that he took a risk on a west coast job at SJSU and succeeded where just about anyone else would have failed. He's not a western US guy.

Financial question:
If MM were to get hired at GT, does GT need to pay him market rate or could they pay him say $500,000 and then bank the rest on assistants or other things until we pay Mac off and then GT pays market. Is that type of action covered in the contracts? Seems like Youngstown State did that with Pelini!

Dude. It’s freaking Judge MF Judy!!!
I will say this, I know a person that works directly (contracted to work for them, employed by another company) for the Judges Sheindlin and he said that they are really good people to work for and work with, supportive of family, and all around good people.

Depends on how much of a commission the agent wants I guess.

Exactly. Anyone who thinks Jimmy Sexton is going to take a commission on another $2M when he could earn commission on another $4M is smoking crack. Whatever the deal is, it will be for market rate and as much money as he can possibly get for his client. That could mean backloading a bit on a 5-year deal with the last 2 years guaranteed, though.

Hopefully this is true and maybe it means that Matt Wells is not even on RG's RADAR! The more guys we can shoot holes in or pretty much assume is a shot in the dark, the better. I get the feel that Lake is in the bag, but do not want to jinx it. The candidates in that Sports Illustrated article are all likely agent driven, because they are surprised that the best jobs are now looking at Coordinators and thus the retread market is quite slow this year.

Texas Tech going for Wells, Georgia Tech possibly going for Whisenhunt, UNC hiring from the ESPN booth, USC keeping Helton ... there's a lot going CU's way here.
Yep.

Plus Maryland likely going with the hometown hire with Locksley, a candidate that wouldn't even register on an expanded "long list" for CU.

Plus Rutgers keeping Ash. The B1G budget and NJ recruiting grounds would make that a fairly attractive job.

Just to keep things organized with today's developments, here are the new headlines from FootballScoop:

Georgia Tech: Paul Johnson has officially stepped down. Congrats on a great run Paul.

Charlotte: JMU head coach Mike Houston will be the new head coach at Charlotte tweets Bruce Feldman.

Texas State:
This morning we wrote that he had become the target of the search, Keff Ciardello has now reported and we can confirm, Jake Spavital has accepted the head coaching position at Texas State. Some interesting news in there as well about his planned offensive coordinator.

Now best opening available.
Yep. 4th best state in the nation for recruiting, borders the best state for recruiting and has very high all-time prestige as a program. It's a place where the right coach could win a national championship.

Sort of.

A lot of perks to GT, no doubt. However, if the new coach doesn't run the triple option, there are going to be some major growing pains.

Mike Leach had no problems with converting Oklahoma from a wishbone team to an air raid offense back in 1999 and 2000. His rep is probably talking to GT at the moment. Just move some RBs to inside WRs and find a QB who can throw the ball.
