2018 Rocky Mountain Showdown (8/31)

Mtn has found a friend to talk CSU!

Nope, just sitting on the sidelines for this one.

Do agree with earlier posts though.

If we don't comfortably win this game it will be a long season and HCMM should be looking for a different job.

I don’t know how any of you are this confident about this game. Most often it’s a close game. And we sucked last year. And we got pretty lucky in our game against them last year. And CSU will leave it all on the field. And we have a patchwork o line (coming off a year of horrific o line play). And we have a yet to be proven d line. And we have a new o coordinator.

Will I be pissed if we lose? Yes. Should we win? Yes. But I would not call this an easy game. Especially considering we struggle against just about everybody.

Less to do with us and more to do with them. Patchwork o line is pretty much the same as what we trotted out there last year since Irwin didn’t play. CSU replaces both coordinators, 3 year starting qb, starting center, one of the best if not the best receiver in their history, a ton of defensive players, a couple more lineman, a couple more assistant coaches, and hasn’t recruited very well in order to close the gap on the field.

CU definitely has question marks at tackle, defensive line (although not nearly as bad as last year) and center but there are some nice pieces that should be ready to roll against a team that has scored a total of 10 points against us in 2 years. I have my doubts about a lot of the teams on our schedule but CSU doesn’t really concern me right now. There were quite a few missed opportunities against them last year to really blow that game open and we couldn’t convert 3rd downs on their side of the field.

Your sarcasm is noted but we took that mentality last year and we struggled against CSU and it proved out that we actually sucked.

Really had little to do with how we performed against CSU though. The only years which have truly been indicator games were 2014 and 2016.

The team needs to progress over the second half of the schedule. How much they beat CSU by is mostly irrelevant in how they find ways to win in November.

The score is less a concern than how we play. Last season even though we dominated the game we saw signs that the DL was going to have issues holding the LOS. Also our OL had some issues handling blitzes.

Wasn't just against CSU. The final score of the Texas State didn't reflect some of our struggles and the UNC game as well.

Early games are often a little rough since they are still working out the kinks but if a team like CU is going to be competitive in conference games it can't struggle against athletes who mostly would never get an offer from our conference opponents.

I understand this on the offensive side but if we don’t come out firing on defense with guys like Malumba, Edwards, Tuiloma, Franke, Lewis, Gamboa, landman, falo, Taylor, Worthington, Fisher, Miller, udoffia, wigley and Abrams then that is not a good sign of things to come.

I’m Mr. Optimistic and think the team can improve from week 1 to week 12, but the talent level is not even close with these teams, nor is the experience. CU should win handily.

It will be fun to watch the Buffs score on every offensive possession. Hopefully, a couple of quick scores combined with some grind it out drives. Throw in a couple defensive scores and it will be a solid day.

I’m suspecting that the FBI will be watching this game closely.

The 2014 team got its ass kicked by CSU and proceeded to go 0-9 in conference. If we get beat up by CSU, I concede we are in trouble. On the flip side, the 2016 team romped and obviously was a good team.

2018 is likely not going to be either extreme, so expecting the team to play one of its best games of the year right away seems strange.

I guess I don't think putting up 30+ points on what looks to be a fairly mediocre to bad CSU team, necessarily means they are playing one of their best games of the year.

Basically a revamped offense (specifically the OL) with a very green OC. I expect growing pains.

If we do not win by four TDs in the first game of the year, we really suck.

Now you are on board the buffalo train of world domination. Except we should win by 4 scores against them every year. This year I would hope for 6-7 scores as our win margin. Time to go up a level.

I expect CSU's offense to be as good as last year (probably better, actually), but there defense will somehow find a way to be worse.

Maybe by the end of the year, but losing an NFL WR, top RB, Starting QB and multiple linemen makes me think they will need some time to gel.
I doubt it considering that they have OL issues this year. Hard to weather through inexperience at the skill positions and make things click when the OL isn't up to standards.

If we aren't camping out in their backfield all game, I'll be pretty damn concerned. If the OL issues are there, make them pay for that, early and often.

I remember the last time CSU had lost so many OL guys. They were just as good the next year. I don't recall them being poor on the OL.

I watched enough to know he was as good as Stevens.
Yes, I’m sure you were totally tuned into garbage time washington husky games against fcs opponents. Which is totally relatable to being better than an all mountain west qb at CSU.

What's your ****ing deal? Drunk? **** off.

This is how this is going to play out: 1st qtr. Buffs 7 sheep 0. Halftime Buffs 17 them 3. 3rd qtr Buffs 24 cam 6. Calling the shot can be so much fun.
34-13 BUFFS

Perhaps the Buffs jump out to a good lead in the first half and then the Rams will have to throw the ball to their receivers group which only returns one of the top five receivers from last year. Carta-Samuels doesn't appear to be the type of QB who could run away from a pass rush that should be better than last season...what if he's not much better than the healthy remaining QBs on the Rams roster?
