2018 Rocky Mountain Showdown (8/31)

CSU's 2018 Spring Game highlights (posted the Nubs one in that thread).

I think it might be no secret who will be the starting QB for the Rams and a hint for everyone: he's finishing up classes somewhere else besides Ft. Fun.

Seriously. People are saying 'wait 3 or 4 years, then we'll sell our naming rights..' You're saying, "we don't have a brand anyone wants very much, but just wait?" This is embarrassing - csu bringing in more money than The Buffs? Is this RG's responsibility?

Are you honestly that dense?

It’s not about whether we could get more than CSU right now - we could, easily - it’s that most naming rights deals are long term deals. Our value today isn’t what it should be in another 2-3 years. Signing a contract today would dramatically undersell the value we should be able to get a few years from now. That’s not a difficult concept.

Hopefully Coors will step back up to the plate but for the football stadium rights. “Coors Field” has a nice ring to it.

More like Folsom Field at Coors Stadium.

I just looked at the sheep's schedule and... damn. They could easily start the year 1-5 or 2-4. Hawaii, CU, Arkansas, @Florida, ILST, and @SJSU. Hope they are getting paid well for those 2 SEC body bag games.

Hawaii and San Jose St are going to be atrocious this year. If they lose either of those games both of their fans will revolt. Illinois St came in at #106 on Sagarin LY, can't take them too lightly.

body bag scheduling for the sheep.

ordinarily, i expect a CU win of around 42-10 or so, but this year i'll go with 55-13. we gonna maul them.

This is a year that CU should handle CSU. They lost a ton and are not a program that can simply re-load.
Devil's advocate:
I know they lost their QB but he had lost the job the year before to their True Freshman QB who is likely a no go again due to another knee injury. But they have the grad transfer so maybe an upgrade?

RB - what they lost would appear to be replaced with younger guys. The youngsters showed to be very good last year. Boddie may be an upgrade.
They lost their stud WR but his counterpart showed a very high ceiling as the season progressed. Could actually be like our situation and improve?

They lost some key starters on OL but CSU always seems to plug and play at OL. This is where the rubber will meet the road. I suspect they will be fine .

Many of their more talented players who flashed were Frosh on D. A few youngster DL were very good as they learned under fire.

Their depth is suspect and led to a late season collapse.

So despite their losses, I'd expect CSU will be as good on offense as they have been if the QB is up to it. New system so perhaps not early?

On D they are going to a new system and that may benefit early opponents. But I believe they've recruited much better on D under Bobo and that talent has started to show. D will be a question mark for sure.

Overall I expect CSU to be similar to the team we saw last year, and a bad Buff team stole that win . We should be better so I'd go with a Buff W but I don't see this year as a big drop-off for the Rams .

Caution .

Has Bobo recruited well? I've seen that thrown around before, not sure I believe it.

I am banking on the hope that KJ Samuels wont do anything....New O Coord and New D Coord....they have talent, but anytime you bring in New Coord's its not good.....unless you are Bama

Gallup is a late 1st/2nd round WR... Under no circumstances does losing him make their WR group better, and it shouldn’t be compared to CUs situation at the position.

This will be a 3 score win for the Buffs at minimum.

CSU has had some surprising quality at WR over the past 5 years. I can't imagine that is sustainable.

And their whole pass offense went through Gallup, who is heading to the NFL and is probably the best WR that CSU has ever had. Clark is also a significant loss as a 500 yard 6 TD guy.

Stevens at QB and Dawkins at RB were very reliable seniors who made a lot of plays.

From their OL, losing Golditch, Bennett and Moxley is a ton (3/5 starters). For the first time in a long time, CSU is thin on the OL and was barely able to run spring practices because of difficulty fielding a 2-deep.

They also graduated Fackrell at TE, which is a pretty significant loss of a guy who was a very reliable weapon for them.

They graduated 2/3 starters from their DL. A group that lacked talent and depth last year.

They lost Colorito at LB along with Kiel Robinson. I haven't seen whether they'll get Clyburn back from the blood clot issue, but still it's a lot to lose from the 2nd level of the defense. I thought Colorito was their best defensive player last year.

From the secondary, they also lost 4 regular starters in Nutt, Johnson, Sweet and Schlager.

This is a rebuilding year in Fort Collins and we'll find out in a hurry if Bobo has been able to recruit replacements for the McElwain recruits and the early Bobo recruits they got on the momentum of what Sparkles did. I just don't see it this year. I think they'll be really bad.

Per Rivals, CSU has recruited 82nd best and 80th best classes over the past 2 years and 5 years respectively. That's puts them third best in the MWC behind Boise St 65/65, and San Diego St 75/74. He's recruiting as well as Sparkles did.
When you recruit in that range, it's a crap shoot on whether it's really a better recruiting class than a program at 90 or 100 pulled in. A lot comes down to how well they did at identifying JUCOs -- something that Fresno State seems to be excelling at under Tedford.
