2020 CU football season POSTPONED until Nov 6th?

Hey Dum Dum, in my original post I clearly stated that I don't care if they play football or not. But they should have the ability to choose whether to play or not. Good lord you are dense.
The density is between your ears.

Have you ever been around a major college sports program? The idea that playing would be up to the players or not is simply ridiculous.

Yes if a kid is an established star and too important to lose then he could opt out of many programs. You think the kid battling for playing time against the recruit from the year behind has that option? These coaches have an amazing amount of influence over the players, and also the ability to encourage other players to apply peer pressure.

It's okay, go back to your fantasy land where C-19 is just a little flu and this is all an over reaction.

I used to like him pre-2016 and before Fox Sports gave him a bigger platform. The guy completely sold out to the Alt-Right
Yeah I’m all for listening to differing opinions which is why I paid attention to what he used to say but he clearly has an agenda with almost everything he says now.

Stolen from Twitter: Swing states in the Big Ten: Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa. (70 electoral votes)

Swing states in the Pac-12: Arizona (11 electoral votes)

I know it's funny to joke about the Pac-12 and all that, but if you want to know why the President is meeting with the Big Ten presidents and not the Pac-12 presidents, there's your answer.

Doubtful - I think you are seriously reaching.

There has been serious and very public push back by players, some AD's, fans, media in the Big 10. In the PAC 12, most everyone is compliant, and willing to rollover with little resistance to not playing.

On top of that, the PAC is a total follower conference. No point in worrying about the PAC 12 until the Big 10 decides what it wants to do.

Trump is not putting his fat face in the middle of this because he cares about the players, some ADs, fans, and media in the Big 10. He's doing it so he can look like the reason those swing states get their beloved college football this Fall.

I don't disagree with either of your points. They don't contradict mine, though. This is about vote mining. Those 70 electoral votes are vital to both candidates. If there weren't 5 swing states in the Big Ten, he wouldn't be meeting with them.

As for the Pac-12, why even get bothered by it when half of the schools in the conference would probably get shut down by their state's governors even if the conference tried to press on.

Joining the PAC 12 was the worst move in CU program history. No one with influence seems to give a **** that there won’t be a season. The fact that ZERO leaders stepped up to fight for even a spectator-less season speaks volumes about the conference. COVID has an insignificant risk to young healthy college kids. Whether you agree with the public health decision to cancel the season, the fact that the conference collectively laid down as if they didn’t give a damn is ridiculous. Say what you will about the fans of the BIG, including Nebraska, but at least they give a ****. The conference is irrelevant. CU is irrelevant within the PAC. Hard to see the PAC ever having the same degree of influence as the BIG or SEC. **** at this point the Big 12 looks more promising. It’s frankly embarrassing the incompetence and apathy. CU needs to GTFO.

Especially true when a number of those states have ongoing civil unrest which many are linking directly to the presidents actions (or inactions.) He is desperate for some "positive" news that can be linked to him in a number of those states as well as an opportunity to look presidential and relevant.

I am not sure I disagree with the general thrust of your post, but given the CU Administrations approach to FB, the Pac 12 is definitely the conference for CU.

I am not sure I have ever seen a post that I so strongly agreed with and disagreed with at the same time

Agree: CU/Pac12 does not care as much as the BIG or SEC, and that is disappointing, so much apathy
Disagree: COVID is not insignificant... :bang:

This is some revisionist history - at the time CU joined the PAC 10 they were preparing to sign the largest media deal of all P5 conferences, Texas was bulldozing the entire Big12, and our alumni base was living in PAC 10 country, and fans were excited about trading road trips to Stillwater and Lubbock for trips to Los Angeles and Seattle. It was the right move at the time, unfortunately conference leadership has botched pretty much everything since.

Ohio State has a National Championship team, so it’s been no secret they want a season. The other two are in a hurry to go 6-4 and 3-7 respectively I guess

And a big enough brand to where they can drive a change in that league if they want it. Hopefully we can get a hypothetical poll from some body (even if we get a bunch of talking heads together after whatever season-assuming there is one-the Big 10 and Pac 12 play) in the spring.

We still prioritize Texas as much as we do California recruiting, if not more so. Athlon quoted an anonymous assistant from another school in their preview who said as much.

If the Big 12 re-invited us, I would do it tomorrow.

I did NOT say that COVID is insignificant. I said the risk from COVID to young healthy people is. Straight from the CDC: 280 people in the age 15-25 range died from or with COVID compared to 375 with influenza. The CDC has also suggested that the vast majority of severe cases are in those who have underlying conditions. Thus it’s absolutely not an unreasonable take to suggest that young healthy athletes should not totally upend their lives to stay at home with their much older family members, especially when the athletes with underlying conditions can opt out and still keep their scholarship and eligibility.

I'm not sure I could get angrier if this actually occurs. Giving rapid testing of the national stockpile so ONE FRICKING CONFERENCE OF SWING STATES GETS TO PLAY FOOTBALL???????

Well we all know Sir Lawrence will do whatever the Big 10 does lol.

I hate to be the one to break it to the "it's no big deal to college kids" crew: YOU DON'T KNOW THAT.

My mom had covid in March. No hospital stay, no special treatment. She was diagnosed with permanent lung damage YESTERDAY. It wasn't until 6 months later that it showed up.

Yes, my mom is obviously much older than a college student, but there has been no correlation proven between age and lasting effects of covid. Death, yes. Hospitalization, yes. Lasting effects, no.

It's fun and all to spin bull**** that fits your agenda, but there is literally no way to prove that anyone infected today will have no lingering effects 6 months from now.

Culturally the PAC12 is a better fit for CU. As Buffs fans CU football is very high on our priorities but honestly it is way down the list of priorities in Colorado after the Broncos, other pro sports, multiple recreational opportunities, etc. As much as it would hurt us as individuals if CU football went away entirely it wouldn't have a huge impact on life in the State of Colorado.

That is not the case in some of our surrounding states including some of our former B12 partner states. In Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, even to an extend Kansas and Iowa college football is a major part of the cultural landscape, they look at it differently (In one state that is known for polyester and feedlot odors it is about all they have.)

That all said managed correctly the PAC would be a more than viable entity. Even down the list of priorities PAC universities have significant following among their alumni and others associated with the programs. The PAC states and their fans also have overall larger populations and wealthier populations so the market is there.

These things go in cycles. Given some decent management the PAC can and will return to competing for elite status in college football. What it won't do is allow that pursuit to compromise it's significantly higher standing than most members of the other conferences hold. There are some conferences that are higher than other and individual schools but none place balance the priorities the same as the PAC does.

Eventually I see the PAC being back in the conversation in terms of revenues, maybe not at the top but competitive, the market means that should happen.

The thing is, so far, there is no evidence that suggests football, including full contact practice/scrimmages/games, is causing really any spread right now. Players are testing positive when they come back from weekend breaks while not around the program.

I agree that has been the case for most of the outbreaks but you also can't say getting together for football isn't causing outbreaks when a whole position group goes down like at OU or LSU (where they had only 4 linemen for practice for a while).

I think we have some advantage over the rest of the PAC 12 when it comes to recruiting Texas that we didn’t have in the Big12 so I don’t see moving to the Pac as a significant hindrance to our recruiting efforts there.

But they say that's happening because the players are getting it off campus and bringing it back to the meeting rooms and facilities, etc. The actual football field and playing the game (so far) isn't causing much spread.
