2025 Transfer Portal News & Updates

Are we going to do this every December?
QB depth is going to be a huge problem for almost all of CFP for the foreseeable future. Every backup in the country is going to look to get to a place where they are guaranteed to start.

An injury to QB1 is going to sink most teams because they won’t have enough depth. Also, in the years that you don’t have a good QB ready to go, you are going to struggle. Just look at Michigan this year.

This is why losing Taylor is a bit troubling. It will be interesting to see how our staff handles QB depth with a blue chip like Lewis coming in.

More player movement does not automatically mean depth problems for everyone. The overall number of QBs and teams has not changed. Some teams will successfully recruit more depth, some will strike out and struggle. I think we’ll be fine.

I’m not troubled about losing someone who couldn’t beat out Staub. A 3rd string QB should not be hard to find. And there is no reason to believe that this staff can’t recruit a #2 who is the equal of Staub if he decides to move on.

I hope you’re right.

Taylor was NEVER going to see the field. I mean, HCP would've moved Travis to QB before Taylor took real snaps. So why do we think this matters?

I think everyone is going to have trouble keeping a solid back up because they any back up who is any good, and even some who aren't, are going to seek greener pastures.

Taylor was intriguing, but I am not sure his transfer hurts if Staub stays.

There are going to be players willing to come in and compete with Juju. The overall depth chart is pretty thin, so there's going to be some appeal that the only real competition is a freshman and you're only 1 injury away from taking over arguably the highest profile job in the country as Prime's QB1.

Taylor is a power running QB. If he was forced to play, we've already lost, so whoever takes the QB3/4 role is a wash, in a worst case scenario.

We'll find a quality backup next year, then land a freshman like Jaden O'Neal to the room in 26.

You won't keep them, but there's going to be a constant shuffling of deck chairs. Taylor will transfer out, and we'll bring in someone who isn't afraid of competing with Juju.

I think a Walk on was the 3 on the Depth Chart and will likely stick around.

Very early on a UNLV QB chose to Redshirt over a dispute on his NIL. I think he is in the Portal. I can't recall if he is a pocket passer but I think someone like that will/should get recruited to compete for the QB1 spot this year. CP can look at his freshman QB a lot easier and say you lost out to a 5th year Senior then he can say you lost out to a RS Soph/Jr.

Do you know anything about that QB? Cause he wasn't good.

Without having seen a single snap of his, I would say 94 receptions seems like he's mostly a flex TE that's mostly lined up as a receiver. If that's the case and he doesn't do much from an in line or even hybrid role, I don't think he's a fit here.
Mikey played well in that role in 2023 - made some crucial catches and TD's. Given the ineptitude of TE's on the current roster, this would be an upgrade. Not that the TE room would be filled at that time, but he would be a nice outlet for Juju.

As I said, I haven't seen how Ball State used him, but 94 receptions is 2 more than Travis Hunter had this year. That means this guy is essentially WR1 for Ball State and likely never in a position to be a blocker. That is not the type of TE that an offense under Prime will ever have.

It’s the perfect TE to transfer in for spring ball, then quit and transfer out though
