2025 Transfer Portal News & Updates

Mikey played well in that role in 2023 - made some crucial catches and TD's. Given the ineptitude of TE's on the current roster, this would be an upgrade. Not that the TE room would be filled at that time, but he would be a nice outlet for Juju.

As I said, I haven't seen how Ball State used him, but 94 receptions is 2 more than Travis Hunter had this year. That means this guy is essentially WR1 for Ball State and likely never in a position to be a blocker. That is not the type of TE that an offense under Prime will ever have.
Supposedly we are recruiting this TE and trying to get him to Boulder, so I'll retract what I said.

I think (and hope) that we are going to see the offense change next year. Lots less 4 wide, which means there is a spot for a move TE along with an in line TE. We are looking for RBs and OL too. Shedeur had preferences, and he was all about going deep as often as possible. That seems inadvisable with a 17 year old true frosh with only 3 years of high school ball under his belt. more beef (and PLEASE more motion/misdirection) just makes sense.

QB depth is going to be a huge problem for almost all of CFP for the foreseeable future. Every backup in the country is going to look to get to a place where they are guaranteed to start.

An injury to QB1 is going to sink most teams because they won’t have enough depth. Also, in the years that you don’t have a good QB ready to go, you are going to struggle. Just look at Michigan this year.

This is why losing Taylor is a bit troubling. It will be interesting to see how our staff handles QB depth with a blue chip like Lewis coming in.
Taylor is absolutely horrible and cannot play at this level for anyone. He is not a loss at all, in fact a net positive so we don't waste a schloarship on him.

If you cannot find a way for a 6'7"/235 TE with good hands to "fit the offense," that offense blows.
For sure. It's the classic case of changing your offense to fit the talent. Go get the guy and then figure out how to get him the ball.

... but our offense has failed to do that despite recruiting two good pass catching TE in the last two years under this staff, so something's wrong.

What was wrong was that we had Hunter, Sheppard, Horn, Wester, Miller, etc. I’m not sure the Buffs would have used a tight end much regardless.

The tight end on the 2019 LSU squad with Chase and Jefferson caught 47 balls for 570 yards. Good offenses use their tight ends.

Without having seen a single snap of his, I would say 94 receptions seems like he's mostly a flex TE that's mostly lined up as a receiver. If that's the case and he doesn't do much from an in line or even hybrid role, I don't think he's a fit here.
I thought an offense was designed around athletes you recruit. CUs Oline is improved, can’t see how he wouldn’t be an excellent target for an accurate young QB.

Who were these "good pass catching TEs" you speak of?
