Adams promoted to Co-OC, Chiaverini to call plays

Just to get this straight. You have the genuine chance to retool the coaching staff of an offense that's by and large underperformed the last few years, especially last season, because your OC is making a lateral move to a conference rival and you go and immediately promote a guy you've worked with for 7 years from within and don't even entertain the notion of looking outside for some fresh ideas or someone who has proven he can design and lead a creative offense?
At least he moved fast this time? I've got nothing. MM's rolodex appears to be a post-it.

I want a mastermind. Is Chev one of those? Do two average minds make a mastermind?

I don't see many legitimate alternative scenarios that involve keeping Chev (and thus not demoting him).

It makes a megamind.

this is just so underwhelming...this reminds me of the Bohn hires. Sure, Tad worked out, but did Mike Bohn do the due diligence and search nationally? Or was he so blind to what was before him that he just settled? I like Mac a lot, but this is an impotent move. I like Adams too...but it's not what I was hoping for. Let's see what other moves Mac makes.

Now that my gut reaction has run its course....

Damn, we now have another $487,232 to spend with Lindgren gone. Since we just promoted Adams, where is that $ going? Chev already makes $375k, and adams makes $315k. Even assuming they both get $100k bumps, which is unlikely, that leaves $287k.

If we get rid of Bernardi and Jeffcoat, we have even more $ to use. Assuming we aren't paying for the 10th coach out of existing funds, we SHOULD be able to make solid hires here.

I'll play wait and see on the new QB coach and new 10th assistant. I know continuity can be a very good thing in college football, but that also is important if the team is good. Colorado wasn't very good, so underwhelming changes so far.

You rarely have continuity on good teams. Assistants get poached off of staffs like OSU, Alabama, and Clemson all the time.

Trying to think of outside the box qb coach. What about Detmer? Coaching high school ball in Texas. Think Joel Klatt would have any interest? Feel like we need a big name to boost recruiting.

Chiaverini spent the past two season as Co-OC, getting promoted to the head spot after Lindgren leaves comes as a shock?

MM understands that he will sink or swim with the coaching staff he puts together. His leash is very short now.

Man Lindgren is gone and everyone is still bitching and moaning about the changes. The reality is that any outsider coach coming in might know that this might be an one year job since HCMM could be shown the door after next season and that does reduce the coaching pool who would be interested. Get real.
