Arizona post-game thread

Man I was really rooting for Mac2, seems like we are headed for another 5-7. If he manages another win and survives gotta get rid of Adams and Bernardi at least.

Posted this in the game thread-Fire him, but let him finish the year. Three reasons why this is a good idea: One, trying to send MM out with a bowl appearance might be a little more motivation for the team, but the last two are more important. Two, when we did this with Hawkins eight years ago, we had a logical candidate in Cabral on staff to be the interim. We don't have that now. Theres nobody on this staff who probably doesn't make this worse. Three, the early signing period starts Dec. 19. If we pull the trigger now, there's no reason why we can't have a guy in place by then.

The future for this team is brighter than it has been in the last 10 years, and we all feel like its the end of the world because of what we have seen. We are only losing 4-5 seniors total that will be missed, and many have really strong backups ready to go, so with the right coaching plan, I could see a new solid coach getting to 8-9 wins next year as long as Montez comes back.

And, what the heck is Viska's injury? Hate the mystery crap

Alright here is the truth, when viska went out I heard he was going to be out 6 weeks, if I had to guess he isn’t going to be back and the coaches want to make the opposing team prepare for him. There is a chance he comes back and tries to play on it but we should be playing better on offense without him. That is on our OC.

It is more than Turf Toe! I have had that before, and there is a point that you can numb it up, splint and wrap the toes together and play.
There are different levels of the injury. 3-4 weeks is usually the minimum recovery time.

Hold him out until Cal, and go all in on making a bowl game in the most winnable game remaining.

The offense was fine tonight., especially considering we have the worst OL in a Power 5 conference. Without Shenault, there is no was to cover up such a massive deficiency.

Eliot, on the other hand, is a colossal loser, who will never be a D-1 coordinator at this level. Fired at Kentucky and a failure here. You must not have noticed that Arizona scored on 8 straight possessions!

The offense was definitely not fine tonight. I get the hate from Eliot but how can you defend for Tate scrambling and throwing dimes for touchdowns? Yeah you could play soft coverage and then they kill you in the run game.

Ok to be honest with you, havent followed much of the Buffs lately..... in fact 1st time in years. So that being said, I just didnt see the athletes or coaching in place that was much different than the time D2Danny was HC.

And a monkey wrench or caveat. From the game I watched tonight, I know and agree with the idea or notion CU is a PAC12 team as most state here. I dont have a rebuttal for that belief among yourselves. Now get mad at me as what I watched tonight leads me to believe the biggest problem for CU is the lack of exposure on national tv in much better time slot. I'm curious about tonight's rating. Moving games to the MTN and PST time zone is hurting the Buffs as far as talent on the field

They have the athletes to have won this week, last week, have a fighting chance against one of the next two and to beat Cal. They do not have the coaching. The talent is light years above what it was with Hawkins. How you don’t see that is mind boggling

He's honest without really saying anything meaningful. Rare gift.
He just says what people don’t want to hear. Most of those touchdowns were great plays by the receivers while our backs had their heads turned around. He tells you when we get beat up front, which is definitely his fault for not recognizing our faults in recruiting. But he says what a lot of people on here say so it pisses me off when people bitch about what he says when he echoes what we say on here.

He says the ****ing obvious? Woot!

He never really takes ownership and it is always something a little bit different.

Our OL got dominated? Thanks? Our corners are really bad? Thanks?

Hmmmmm..... like I said, been a few years since seeing CU play. And I stand by what I say about talent. Maybe in the past few years the talent of the players has gotten better, I don't know, havent watched or read about the Buffs. Heck one guy I remember is still kicking for the Packers, right? What I saw tonight was no reflection of the talent I watched on the field for CU in the Big 6,7,8 & 12 days. I do know that for certain. So I dont think you know me, and I dont think I know you until tonight. Just so you know. So tell me, who on the Buffs top 22 starters who could play at a P5 and start? Say a Michigan, Wisconsin, Clemson, or even a number of SEC teams? Heck even saxeT?

Depends what you consider "the starting 22"

McMillian (started for VT)
Shenault
Winfree (Started for Maryland)
Brown (Started for TT)
Montez

Landman
Wells
Johnson
Lang
Antwine

Cool thanks for the information. I check out the players you mentioned and follow up. I kinda penciled in the 2 young men from Desoto. the wr that is hurt, turf toe somene said is an animal catching the ball. He eats up passes to him. Other than that havent really heard much of anybody else. While on the subject, all PAC12 or any all Americans the past few years?

Injuries are not an excuse. Every team deals with injuries. Every fugging team.

If the numbers suggest that one team has more injuries than the norm, before blaming "bad luck", I'd recommend looking at:
1. S&c coaching -- is the staff implementing methods to prevent common injuries?
2. Practice regimens -- is the coaching staff pushing too many contact drills, etc...?
3. Culture and motivation -- is the team morale so low that players are sitting out with hangnails b/c they don't care anymore?

I don't follow team news and other reports close enough to answer those, but i believe bad luck ranks after those three as a reason for injuries.

To be fair Shenault may be a generational talent and we probably don't lose the last two games with him and maybe not the last three. It doesn't excuse the Oregon State implosion and subsequent breaking of the team, but we easily could have been looking at a potential 10-2 like season rather than a 5-7 one minus just one injury.

Perhaps, but it shouldn’t take a generational talent to deliver a 7 or 8 win season in year six at the helm. That’s my real frustration, at least.

For sure that's why I was for firing Mike MacIntyre last year as recruiting and team growth seemed to have stalled. But I think what makes college football a beautiful sport is that a lucky dice throw can change the whole outcome of a team or program and we shouldn't completely discount that.

Posted in another thread but the idea of Bernardi or Roper (or Els, for that matter) does nothing for me as interim HC. Those guys are the past. I’d like to put Chiv there for a couple reasons: 1) he seems like a guy with HC aspirations. It gives CU some insight as to how he’d do. This would not be for the next hire, but for future consideration. 2) if there’s one guy on staff that I think can keep the players from quitting, I think it’s him. 3) I don’t see a substantive difference between slotting him there and one of the aforementioned guys and it would be a big favor to an alum.

Would have won with Shenault
Should have won without Shenault

The end
