Assistants

Jay Johnson jumps ship too? Oh well, I was really hoping MotherTucker would take Summers off our hands and leave JJ.

Expect Wilson to leave if MT offers him a job. He's liked pretty much every MT related tweet from MT or MSU since the announcement.
If this is true he should be fired and have his belongings thrown in a MSU green garbage bag and be escorted off campus.

I hope Johnson is gone.

As coordinators & QB coaches go, he's pretty much the definition of a JAG type guy to have in the position.

I doubt the new coach would want to keep him. Rather get paid for him breaking his contract than see CU saddled with paying off the last year of his contract.

I haven't seen the buyout language in our AC contracts, but I'm assuming its pretty standard just the rest of the contract if they break it-For example, Jimmy Brumbaugh signed a 2 year contract here when he came at 312.5k per. Given he basically left at the end of year one, we're probably getting a payment of ~300k for him from Tennessee. Summers is on a 3 year/1.5m deal-so he's another mil if Melvin wants to overpay for his services. Johnson's making ~600k a year for 3 years. He bolts for East Lansing we're looking at $1.2m ish?

brumbaugh was 100k if we even collect it. That's a reported #. your numbers are extremely high.

iirc, Brumbaugh had a wonky contract that paid him $100k in 2019 and was going up to $475K in 2020. Probably was getting paid by Maryland but didn't want to sit at home for a year or something. I think he waited until his buyout period expired before he signed up for the new job, so CU gets nothing there.

I'd think that there's something coming back for a coordinator.

Then on the other side, we'll owe money to whomever our new HC terminates unless the guy can find a new job. Considering the time of year, I figure we'll end up paying for any coaches CU doesn't retain for 2020.

I forgot about Brumbaugh and Maryland. My bad. His money's not going to make a ton of difference any way you swing it-I was more using him as an example because it happened before all the stuff with Melvin went down, which makes it an easy example to work off of given the unknowns with the guys other than Chev and maybe Hagan (he's been in the AD for eons and I don't know if that changes regardless. He's getting to be an effective recruiter so hope he stays). We're getting money for the coordinators-they were both QC guys at UGA before they came here and making nothing there.

We need to keep our S&C coach! This is vital, particularly given the time of year. Losing a HC is inconvenient, and although we are scrambling, we have a little time. Losing the coach players are currently working with on a daily basis (and he is an exceptional S&C) would be significantly problematic. That would shut down the players development immediately.
So we don’t have assistant S&C coaches who have learned under Wilson and are prepared to carry on with his program for at least a short while?
