It's a question of leverage. Most players coming into the NFL have historically not had it, and they play where they are told to play. The exceptions? Eli Manning had leverage. John Elway had leverage. What does that mean? How do you do that? Why would an NFL team do Prime a favor if they really wanted Shedeur as their quarterback?
More and more, the top QBs are going to have leverage given how much they can make in college. They can afford to play chicken with a team for whom they don't want to play. Shedeur will have more leverage than most given his family's wealth on top of what he's earned in college plus the fact that he has an entire media empire backing him. Also unlike most positions, great QBs can play well into their late thirties now. Missing a season doesn't hurt their career earning power like it would for a position that has far fewer expected seasons like RB, DL, etc. Yeah, they'll leave some money on the table, but it's much closer to the margins given that they can still make good money doing commercials and podcasts while they wait it out. There's real risk and downside for a team drafting a QB who says he doesn't want to play for you that just wasn't there 10 or more years ago.
