Build Rick George a Statue (was #fireRickGeorge)

Mike Bohn was awesome with the students and the campus. He brought an enthusiasm that is missing now. What he did with the C-Unit was an awesome move. I’m glad for him that he’s a huge success at USC now. I wonder if the same problems we now see at the CU administration level made it difficult for him here too? There has to be someone who our new CU President could bring in as AD that would restore some hope and move things upward?
Mike Bohn had to have everything go perfectly after firing GB and not hiring a replacement who had B4L ties. The support for him was very tenuous from the B4L crowd and associated boosters from that point forward.

Which means, again, that anyone associated with B4L should be banned from the athletic department completely from this point moving forward. There are bigger problems on the org chart at the top, but doing this one thing is something that can make a noticeable difference with the decisions that are made no matter the handcuffs on them.

I want our next hires to be people who have never even been to the state of Colorado.

I kind of hate to say this, but there's one scenario I can think of where I would be in full support of hiring our next AD with the profile of "total Colorado guy with years of CU experience."

Tad Boyle

If he's got any thoughts of being at the end of his coaching run, he would be the ideal AD, imo.

Knows what it takes to win at CU while avoiding scandal, building strong in-state relationships, being an ambassador for CU and his sport, developing players and coaches, and recruiting ranked classes. He knows the frustrations of what is most missing from administrative and university support along with which policies are obstacles his HC peers at other schools don't face. And before he decided his dream he had to follow was coaching, he'd had a successful career being built in financial management.

The last time a coach was our AD, Bill Marolt - with a very supportive CU President - fixed a dumpster fire and oversaw the golden age from his start in 1984 through his 12-year tenure. Since then, we've had no former coaches in the role, starting with replacing Marolt with a drunk lawyer.

I would hate to lose Tad as MBB HC, but I'd trust him to hire his replacement (my guess would be Turgeon). I'd trust him to hire a good football coach. We'd have an athletic department we'd be proud of if Tad was running it.

and wasn’t he a financial guy before coaching too? He’s definitively someone who has given to our university and an all around great person.

First, I will cut you.

Second, I WILL CUT YOU.

Third, the game has changed. Football drives everything now. RG was a good idea in theory - a “businessman” who knows the college football landscape. I think that’s the model to go with - just find one that doesn’t eat paint chips this time.

I too have considered this possibility. He’d be perfect but it would be very bitter sweet.

I think he’d be a fair and effective AD with a lot of enthusiasm. We can get a new MBB coach and it would he worth it to have Tad running the AD. He’s also really good, it seems, about keeping it really professional and not involving himself in politics, etc. And he also understands the school, the conference, etc.

He would take a gigantic paycut... not happening...

I could see Tad taking the job if he feels like he has hit his ceiling as basketball coach. I don’t believe he feels that he has hit his ceiling as basketball coach, though.

I want to build a damn statue for Tad, but I have no idea why you guys think he would be good at that job. Just because he's a good basketball coach doesn't mean he knows how to run an athletic department. Hell, Tad becoming AD would be the best thing to ever happen to the basketball programs (pending the new head coach hire), but how on Earth is he going to handle conference realignment and the flaming dumpster fire that is our football program with damn near zero experience in those things? Best case scenario, we hire an amazing deputy to help him and he's on training wheels for the first 12-18 months on the job. Do we really want that in our current situation?

He went from a six figure income to become a basketball coach making, like, $20k while raising a family. He is set for life now. Money wouldn’t factor into it for him. It would be a matter of whether or not it is something he’d want to do.

Moses had a speech impediment yet led the Children of Israel to the promised land. Tad could part the Boulder Reservoir and lead us to the other side if he wanted. Gimme a break!

I am all in on the statue. He deserves that 1000%.

Why would one take on a pressure job for less pay when he has got the bball program on autopilot for over 2M a year and he loves to coach? Dont see it.

Not only that, but there's noise that he may be looking for an early retirement. Why go to a more demanding job?

Well, more demanding if you actually do it. Not what Rick does.
Something to be said about early retirement...he can do what Gary is doing...fun and no pressure..

Six more months of consulting..and I'm out...😉

I just glaced at the thread and thought you guy's wanted Tad to become the new football coach (and not the AD). I considered it for about 20 minutes.
Still not 100% against the idea, haha. (that shows where are as well as anything I can think of).

HEY!! What is wrong with a drunk lawyer? I have messed up so many times by being drunk that it makes me successful. That is part of my charm. I see no negative in hiring drunk lawyers in high positions.
