Can you win consistently in Boulder?

I agree with the original post. The missing piece is the support in all areas including fan support. Plus great players dont want to come to boulder when its 98% white folks. Thats a fact. sub par fan support. Lack of money. Plus CU has been fighting 2 fronts, a switch to a much more competitive PAC12 and coming back from 15 years of losing. Can CU be a special place again? Sure, but I don't see it happening any time soon. FYI A&M and LSU in 5th OT

No one expect it to happen overnight. But you have to try. You never achieve anything without trying.

And are you trying to say we should not even try?

CU has historically been able to recruit Texas much better than UDub. Outside of the past few years the historical profile of the two programs have been very similar, and don't forget that it wasn't that long ago that Washington was 0-12.

And then they hired Chris Peterson ... a guy that clearly is a top 20 in the country type coach. Every up here knew that with all the resources and support and local talent UW had, he was the final piece to getting them where they are now. I just don't think we'll get a Chris Peterson-level coach to come to Boulder.

Holy camoley 110 points put up in that game (so far)...

Let's see who we get. RG isn't Bohn.

That's what I was saying. Why not wait until we all know who is the coach?

CU should be able to make a bowl next year. Whoever takes over this job isn't taking over with nothing to work with like the last 3 hires. It'll at least be a little bit less of an uphill climb for the next coach to make us a perennial winner.

We should absolutely try ... but I think based on everything I've said, we have to be happy with 7-5 and 6-6. That's our ceiling except in anomalous years.

This is the exact type of whiny thread that I laugh at on other team’s message boards after their meltdowns. Get this soft ass thread off of Luke’s board and over to Ramnation where it belongs.

If you think we're getting a Chris Peterson-level coach (which is the only thing that truly gets us consistently to 8-4 or better), then pass me whatever you're smoking.

Totally agree with that. Cupboard is pretty stocked. But I'm talking about being a consistent winner ... bowl eligible most of the time.

How is ****ing whiny to point out systemic issues that hold us back from being a consistent winner? To use your words ... why are we a "soft" program?

What does Utah have that we don't, they have multiple division titles.

Bigger fan base? No
More fans at home games? No
Bigger donors? No
Bigger local talent base? No (and more local competition for that talent and those fans with BYU there)
Stronger ties to the out of state recruiting areas like California, Texas, etc.? No

There is simply no reason why CU can't be much better than a 6-7 win program.

That should be the basement for CU. 6 wins should be a given every year even if it means we don't schedule a tough OOC to get to that 6 or 7 wins.

Two wins in the OOC (including one cupcake and a G5 team) and going 4-5 in the PAC gives you that floor, certainly not to much to expect as a minimum.

Exactly. Being a regular in the bowl season isn't...or shouldn't be that hard to do at CU.

Wittingham is a damn good coach. And they seem to have a pipeline to the South Pacific and always seem to get alot of those guys.

A Wittingham is not our of our league, and we have successfully recruited the islands in the past plus had more success in the past in Texas. No excuse for not being as good or better as a program than Utah.

Colorado is one of the fastest growing states in country. We’ve all seen the traffic and real estate numbers go up. And Boulder is pimp for your average college student/recruit.

Get the right coach and we’ll be good. Our previous coaches went nowhere after the job, it wasn’t Boulder, it was them. They ****ed up, for various reasons.

People laugh but other than us gluttons for punishment here, who in boulder gives a **** if cu is winning or not? This was a big boy program last when Barnett was here, since?

We live and die with buffs but that's it. The community could care less. That will never change. Oh when the buffs are winning they flock like in 2016 but it never lasts.

Then quit running a soft program. Quit having soft support, soft money, soft boosters and soft coaches And most of all SOFT RECRUITING.

Think of the money in Boulder and in the Denver area since the 90’s. Yeah we’ll never be Alabama, but if we mix our base of die hards with the money around—we can win consistently. Not that different from Seattle or LA the way we’re goin.

Great, but you have to have enough who care. Most have ties to teams in other states. I apologize, this is a very low point for me as a buff fan. Can't believe how this season ended up.

And that's my point ... there's not a consistently successful program out there that faces that lack of support like we do. And it hinders us from getting that next-level coach. It's no secret.
