Can you win consistently in Boulder?

There have been 25 8+ win seasons since 1903. That’s mediocre at Best. Buffs seem to have a run about every 12-15 years. An Atletic Director who can change that trajectory should be paid more than the coach.

Did a lack of systemic support cause a 7-game losing streak?
A lack of systemic support means we're forced to hire average at best coaches, ones who are soft and can;t make offensive play calls to save their life. Again, like I've said many times, it will take a Chris Peterson-level coach to get us to win consistently. But why would someone of that caliber come here? Why would Les Miles choose ****ing Kansas over us?

Les Miles may have not had any other options (including CU).

Yes you can absolutely win in Boulder. Tons of teams doing the best with a lot less than cu has to offer.

I trust Rick George to get the job done. The stench of mike bohn is finally gone.

Snagging RG was the best hire for the program in years. It seems like the administration has come around. Now it's time to get that game changing coach. I am cautiously optimistic. I 100% believe in RG. Maybe this is a defining moment for the Buffs Future, who knows.

Sorry but this is an ignorant post. Define experience.

Watching the Utah game and it sure seems like a much more lively environment in that stadium than in Folsom.

I’m not sure on Les, but I’ve said my piece about him. I’d point anyone towards his awkward opening presser for exhibit A.

Hawkins was an overrated blowhard. Embree was never ready for the job. MM couldn’t staff hire his way out of a paper bag, e.g. Tony ****in Neinas.

The best thing MM had that his predecessor’s didn’t is he could develop depth. He could maintain a roster. Very few off the field incidents, and even guys who had to leave came back eventually.

But he was always reluctant to make staff changes, which if you’re a good HC, you need to be able to do that, and quickly.

And that's my point ... there's not a consistently successful program out there that faces that lack of support like we do. And it hinders us from getting that next-level coach. It's no secret.

Put a quality program on the field for a couple years and there will be no lack of support.

Fans in Colorado support a winner.

Put low quality out there and they have plenty of other options.

This is why we can't afford to settle for mediocre.

In hindsight, we should have gotten a new coach after 2016. Many speculated that Mac could turn the program around but not have sustained success. Seems to have been true. A coach can, at CU, they just need to know how to adapt once success is achieved to keep it moving.

Buffs are historically mediocre. A good season here and there. Mostly a 5-7, 6-6 team. MAC Years were an anomaly. Blue Bonnet Bowl? Who remembers that?
CU is death nell for Big time has beens

What does Utah have that we don't, they have multiple division titles.

Bigger fan base? No
More fans at home games? No
Bigger donors? No
Bigger local talent base? No (and more local competition for that talent and those fans with BYU there)
Stronger ties to the out of state recruiting areas like California, Texas, etc.? No

There is simply no reason why CU can't be much better than a 6-7 win program.

Multiple division titles??

Why can one win in Morgantown, West Virginia and not in Boulder?

This question is not an endorsement of Holgerson as HC at CU. Just a... how come? You tell me what they have that is better than CU.

I will gladly fork over some money if the CU AD needs it for the buyout and a decent coach. Can we start a gofundme? Is that allowed with NCAA regulations?

He's a coach with a rep for bad offense and odd clock management. Stop talking about him like he's ****ing Belichick.

A town that is football crazy, which means big booster support by comparison to their size ... plus smack dab in the middle of a region with tons of talent and obviously an administration that has never been openly indifferent to the athletic department.

Yeah...he’s right. I’ve said this on multiple occasions. Everyone here thinks Texas and California is some sort of boon for us. WVU might be a **** hole, maybe not, I dunno. But, they’re in an area you can recruit. We will always have a disadvantage that Colorado is a bad prep football state.

Playing in the toughest conference in the country. And he won a national title. We haven't had his caliber here since McCartney.

To be blunt Boulder is a hard sell for the main cast of people who make great football programs, Blacks from lower class socioeconomic backgrounds. Sure the city is great, but it is an increasingly a place for SWPLs (Stuff White People Like) and Yuppies. Boulder does not have a Black Community (historical or current) unlike areas where football powerhouses exist. It can be isolating for any student to move out of state and the pressures of being a student athlete only compound that. There are reasons why the Cross Country team does so well, Boulder naturally draws in great runners, but the football team struggles. That is the elephant in the room that goes unsaid.

Different era-2007 was Nick Saban's first season at Alabama, and that season was an exception in general. Only time in the BCS/playoff era we've had a two loss champion.

Yes
Yes you can
With the Right Coach
Bigger investment in recruiting infrastructure
Creative ways to increase support in a massively growing Denver area

Spot on ... I was gonna make this point stronger but introducing a race component into these types of arenas can be tricky. But its undeniable.

When I was at CU in the early 90s, one of my roommates sold weed, often to football players. So I was around them a lot, went to their parties, I had lots of conversations with black athletes there, was very friendly with 3-4 of them. A very common refrain was basically "we feel out of place here, except with our teammates." Boulder is not the only ultra-white college town in America (ever been to Pullman?), but along with a general apathy in the community toward football and a less than supportive admin, the fact that urban black kids can't relate to Boulder is a huge obstacle for us. McCartney solved the riddle and that success sustained us for 8-10 years ... but now it has to be solved again.

Racial tensions are worse now in America than the early 90's, and we're supposed to bring black kids to Boulder? Tall order.

Dumb post. Look at what good coaches have done w worse programs (ie Leach). We’ve had ****ty ADs...but not now. I hope to hell RG gets this right.
