Coach Prime in a different world…

A reminder on the methodology: I used the offers reported by 247 (not perfect), and my analysis was done fairly quickly but I’m sure it’s directional correct. I capped the number of offers used for my average at 10 (so one member of a class with 25 offers doesn’t distort the averages).

2012 - AVG 3.88 - Players with 10+ P5 offers Y. Wright, K. Crawley
2013 - 1.95 - None - Notable: S. Liufau (1), T. Thompson (6), P. Lindsay (1)
2014 - 1.5 - None - Notable: S. Fields (5)
2015 - 1.78 - None - Notable: Lynott (8), P. Carr (8)
2016 - 4.1 - Bisharat, Winfree, J. Huntley,
2017 - 4.66 - Moretti, KD Nixon, G. Polley, K. Ray, Viska Shenault, T. Lang, T. Lytle
2018 - 4.26 - I. Antwine, D. Smith
2019 - 4.15 - L. Shenault, J. Mangham, L. Murray Jr.
2020 - 6.54 - B. Lewis, B. Rice, J. Wray, C. Fauria, C. Lee, K. Miller, A. Clayton, C. Gonzalez, J. Berry, J. Harris
2021 - 3.9 - E. Olsen
2022 - 4.84 - D. Dixson, V. Venn, A. Smith - Notable: A. Austin (9), S. Bowser (9), G. Page (9)
2023 - 6ish (this is challenging to calculate with 40+ new players, plus three specialists and some depth pieces) - T. Hunter, Shedeur Sanders, D. Edwards, A. Waseem, I. Hardge, J. Page, S. Coats (9), T. McCoy (9), V. Johnson (8), I. Jatta (8)
2024 - 8.2 - everybody except T. Chandler has 10+ P5 offers

I was just looking at 247 because, amidst all the negative press we've seen in recent weeks about the state of recruiting, I wanted to see where we sit in our new conference. When you look at the overall ranking, we are currently 4th, behind: Texas Tech, TCU and UCF. (Much better than I feared.)

If you sort by average recruit ranking, CU is #1.

Honestly, how the **** did 2016 happen?

under 2 P5 offers for 3 consecutive years and all of a sudden we catch lightning in a bottle with a senior laden team.

I credit Phil, Sefo, and the Money Gang for bringing that team together to play way above their expectations
For all of his faults Mike Mac was actually a pretty good talent evaluator, particularly on defense. He just lacked the ability to attract blue chips, so he was always putting his chips in with undervalued or overlooked players.

This was a pure development scenario
Found kids that were diamonds in the rough and would grow and mature
Akhello and Oliver were the rawest athletes as Freshman
Everyone played early and got beat up and grew from every game
2016 was the culmination of enough talent that was upperclassmen and connected together at a deep level
Throw in some wildcards like Montez throwing the ball around the park, and 10 wins
It was special, it was a miracle, and that chart even makes it more amazing

Almost like a Matt Rhule "Be Brotherhood" moment

Let's not forget we had a legit defensive coordinator too. Development and scheme worked wonders.

8 guys in that defense got at least a cup of coffee in the NFL the next season.
