CU has rejoined the Big 12 and broken college football - talking out asses continues

i love visiting walmarts -- it is like a cultural expedition. i especially enjoy visiting ones that destroyed main street american businesses all through the rural mountain west. the best time to shop is around 2 in the morning when the hill denizens descend into the walmart to acquire things. good news--- walmart peeps now own our beloved Denver Broncos so all the more reason to visit and jump on the bandwagon.

CU headed to oblivion (probably). Broncs owned by walmartians. All i have left is the Beloved DODGERS.

this realignment **** needs to stop soon-- bumming me out, man.
Fallon, NV!

also, I have a hard time reconciling blaming WalMart for destroying Main Street, when it was the patrons that had to choose to shop there. And it also drives me nuts when I purposely go to a local store to try and support (even though prices are 50% higher) and they don’t have what I need. And then I end up at Walmart or Amazon anyway.

If the conference can stay together, I'd like to see everybody play one neutral site OOC game against another Power 5 team. Maybe you add SDSU and Hawaii in football only (to get the extra games that come with playing them). Maybe you drop to 8 games a year in league-I'm not going to miss CU-Stanford or Utah-Cal if I'm getting Oregon-Georgia in Dallas or something like that.

the only thing i am now enjoying about all this crap is the latest righteous indignation from the b12 twitter pundits. they have been trying to destabilize what is left of the pac for weeks and now they are OUTRAGED that the pac commish suggests pretty directly that the entire cast of the remnant pac is worth more and will land better than the b12.

i am not sure if K is correct, but i like the outcries from the remnant 12. misery loves company.

Appeasement? (An excellent photographic analogy, BTW.)

However, I think K would need to be "in the room" (re in Munich) with the B1G before the analogy works property. The B1G has no fear of the PAC12, so our "appeasement" is deeply irrelevant--sadly.
The Chamberlain photo was perfect. It was only a few short months ago the Kliavkoff was waiving around “an alliance” with the Big Ten, and while he was congratulating himself with a fishing trip in Montana, Big Ten commissioner Warren invaded Poland (by taking USC and UCLA).

It's how they are. Like when Baylor publicly went dirty politics ripping on CU because they wanted the P12 invite and then can't fathom why we couldn't stand them afterwards.

I dunno. I'd rather be Yormark than Kliavkoff right now.....

SC had a lot to do with the PAC failing with a combination of not being able to win enough to be respected and cheating while failing to win.

They will still never match Texas as a conference killer but they certainly aren't who they think they are.

And I have no idea how they will do it but sometime in the future the SEC is going to wish they had never invited Texas to the party.

Doubtful. Unlike the SWC and Big 12 there's too many big-time programs in the SEC to let Texas boss them around

I think its another hail mary from Kliavkoff, but you do you.

# of times Yormark mentioned the P12 at B12 Media Days .... 0
Number of times K mentioned the B12 at our media days .... 5

I think it's obvious who's on the defensive and talking like an incompetent buffoon
First, GK was asked direct questions pertaining to the Big 12

Second, the rumors for the past month have been nothing but Pac 12 programs leaving for the Big 12, so yeah, GK is playing PR defense

But GK saying the Big 12 is scared is comical
i actually don't think it is that comical. if you look at the teams remaining in the big12 including their g5 adds, you don't see concentrated tv markets or many marquee brands. they technically have a lot of eyeballs because they are so large but they don't have the big tv bases that the pac has.

if you look back at mandel's article, the pac owns the top 6 slots heads up v. the b12 and 8 of the top 10 (only tcu and isu even make the top 10). the pac only has 2 team teams average below 1mm viewrs--- arizona and oregon state. and, ku the worst of the worst has like half the average viewers of the worst pac team.

the b12 GoR expires a year after the pac. any of the big 12 would jump at a chance to move to a better tv conference but few if any of them would actually be invited.

CU is in a really ****ty position but bailing to the b12 without running through all the options is not a good idea. and this idea that the rose bowl is going to replace the pac with the big12 is honestly delusional. sec/big maybe. but, no ****ing way do they auto bid the b12 champ. please. wtf are these flatlanders smoking?

also, with respect to how the pac holds together, i heard one version of unequal rev sharing from the oregon ad that i didn't totally hate-- go back to doing it on tv appearances. at least we would have a chance to play our way to more revenue. that is a **** load fairer than us equal rev sharing in the big 12 with ****ing kansas and kjuco state.

when this next big deal gets closed, things might get moving. this idea that the b12 is somehow in a position of strength is dumb.

Mandel's article has already been picked apart as cherry picking the whole thing. There is no one for us to add unless we want to make even less sh1tty money we're about to be making soon. We don't offer enough inventory to get a good media rights package that will make us happy. The B12 will be making 10M+ more than us, and thats just for their T1&2 rights.

let's see how it plays out. i think a lot of the noise we have heard is posturing--- from K from the big 12 etc. we will have a better idea on where everyone stands soon i hope. streaming services are also a wildcard coming here soon-- and they are geographically and culturally aligned with the pac not the big 12.

the b12 is going to welcome any pac refugees with open arms whether it happens now or a month from now or whatever.

the pac is not operating from anything resembling strength but we still together have better brands and bases than anything in the b12. unity is a myth but we ought to at least play it out and see who can do what--- if oregon, uw, stan, and cal were to jump to the big and we get left behind, the 4 corners will do well in the big 12. and so forth. i don't think we need to go kiss the collective ass of the likes of baylor, kjuco state, and west virginia -- they know the vast majority of pac schools are clear value adds. they can hate us all they want and in fact i prefer it that way-- i hate them back too, but if we fall into a marriage with these folks it will be because everyone recognizes it is in all of our financial interests to do so.

Market size doesn't matter a whole lot if the market doesn't give a rat's ass about college football. Brands are what matter. There's a reason that markets like Columbus, Birmingham, Knoxville, Atlanta and Greenville (SC) consistently rank very high in college football viewership. It's because people care about college football in those markets. A lot.

Why don't people get the idea that just because the B12 has some schools located in certain states or cities that doesn't mean that they have a strong attraction in those markets.

Yes they have schools in Texas. Texas is a college football hotbed but how many fans there go out of their way to watch Tech or Houston or TCU play. Put at Texas or A&M game on and most of those TVs are turned to the incoming SEC schools. Does anyone seriously think that Central Florida (yes UCF) will actually draw eyeballs away from UF, FSU, or Miami? Excuse me while I have a good laugh. Same with Cincinnati. Guess people are just going to stop watching Ohio State and the other B1G programs now that the Bearcats part of the B12? Even BYU which can claim to at least have a national fan base with the LDS church but if they were a ratings power they wouldn't have been playing the Boise States and the Coastal Carolinas of the world on Thursday nights.

I still think that the only potential solution which will keep CU and the other top PAC schools in the game is to get past the current contracts and to form a new third power conference with the top programs from the PAC, ACC, and B12 leaving the weaker TV draws from each behind. An ugly solution but the only one that has a chance in a now already ugly new world of college football.

It also looks very much like the PAC along with others won't do what they have to do to make that happen and by the time they figure it out they will be left behind, never to catch up.

true and also not entirely true. the sec works because so much of it was originally spread across regions that didn't have the nfl or other pro sports. a culture and base were built around college football. we will see how it all plays out in the new world order. i love college football and i will have zero interest in watching sec football if we and our conference foes have no stake in the games being played. play it out and lets see.

1. I hope Kliavkoff can find a way to get the PAC paid and we stick together. Whether that's as 10 or + 2, I'm indifferent on. I loved the round robin of the original PAC back in the day, but not sure it makes sense in the current landscape.
2. Nonetheless, Kliavkoff came across as pathetic at the media days. Shot after shot at the Big XII but not a damn thing said against the B1G, which literally did bring the PAC to the brink of destruction. Like a kid who gets picked on but, being unable to actually confront the bully, tries to pick on someone else to make himself feel better.

The new B12 schools don't have to outperform their B1G and SEC counterparts in terms of TV ratings and it was not implied that they would or could. They just have to present a better alternative for their already healthy fan bases. BYU was playing a dog meat schedule because it was an Independent wallowing in a coverage wasteland. The 3 AAC schools have improved their collective well-being a lot by joining the B12. I don't think it's debatable right now the B12 isn't in a more stable (and....wait for it....."Sustainable") position than is the PAC 10. As liver says, maybe a bolt-on bid from a streaming service sweetens the PAC 10 pot in the future and changes the calculus but that might be lookin' at the sky and prayin' for pie....

i hadn't thought of it that way--but i understand why he didn't **** with the big. i am a big fan of punching one's way out of the corner. sure, the pac is probably ending up on the floor, seeing stars, but pissing off the remnant big 12 at least made me laugh a bit.
