CU has rejoined the Big 12 and broken college football - talking out asses continues

Closing arguments in KU’s bid to remain a P5 school, per KU spokesperson. They want to shrink their stadium. I’ll take it under consideration and get back to them.

“We love football,” Leeper said. “We want that football stadium to appropriately reflect KU’s commitment to athletics and KU’s argument for remaining in a Power 5 Conference … But financially it doesn’t make sense to make that type of investment in something that is only used seven days per year. Part of this proposal is to identify how to activate that development 365 days per year.”

Probably the stadium size that makes sense for all but 50 or so schools.

Laugh all you want, don't believe the hype, however if you believe Flugar's source out of Arizona State then the PAC will not be staying intact.
Info starts around 4 min into the Podcast. I'm going to be interested how close things end up and if Flugar's peeps get this right.

Seems like realignment should be viewed through what I call “the Middleton horizon”. If your school is under it ($40M) it’s possible it’s a poverty program. The goal should be to be over it (obviously).

Has anyone left their house with the intention of seeing Khris Middleton play? No. Do people pack Folsom to see Colorado? Yes. We can do it. We can get over that horizon.

50? I’d say 30 but I could be wrong. I’m not about to do the research to see how many schools are nearly 100% hit rate on getting past 40,000 fans for every game.

Impeccable track record of being wrong 100% of the time. Let me guess, he saying Oregon and Washington are going to the B1G?

I listened on my drive home from work and I honestly thought you had Rick Rolled me. That 4 minute mark was pretty much something that happened at the start of his show after 3 1/2 minutes of a crappy house band. 😂

I give you props for being able to listen to this guy. Lots of dead air as he thinks and stretches out points. Dude takes up 10 minutes of air time to deliver 3 bullet points worth of information. If he presented to me at work I'd kick him out of the meeting and tell him to show up prepared next time. I'm shocked he has listeners.

That said, his info and sources may be legit.

Basically, a high placed source at ASU is telling him that UO & UW are demanding an open door to leave at any time with no hassles, the media deal hasn't put hard numbers in front of the presidents yet, it will be heavy streaming paying on a complex formula with varying payouts, and that this likely leads to some programs walking.

You're all welcome. No need to listen to what might be the saddest podcast I've ever suffered through.

What in the hell does Khris Middleton opting out have to do with anything related conference realignment?

IF these UO and UW demands are met and I wasn't either school, I'd certainly want tell the PAC to flip off.
If Colorado were to accept this and stay I'll be highly disappointed in CU's leadership.

I can only listen to these things at 1.75x speed. Hats off to you for getting through that. He’s objectively awful at what he does.

Funny thing about leverage in this case of realignment is it only works when you have options. Oregon and Washington have no options. No options, no demands.

I call bs on the media deal part. Dead silence in almost 4 weeks. No way they haven’t seen numbers. We would have heard about that.

I doesn’t take a podcast to see Oregon and Washington one day being in the B1G. It likely happens. We would be in denial to not acknowledge the P12 is temporary at this point. We just need to be included in whatever happens next.

I’ll break down the Middleton horizon.

Data: Khris Middleton annual salary - $40M

⬆️ Schools annual media revenue per year

If your school is above the horizon - life is good

If your school is below the horizon - poverty

My bigger concern with it would be that it devalues the deal if the media partner is unable to secure assets for the length of the deal or get recompense if it loses that asset to a competitor.

And that's a scenario that makes sense to me on why a P12 deal may be coming in at numbers well below the average media value of the 10 teams. It has never computed that 4 of the P12 schools are worth at least $37M to a media company within the Big 12, another 4 are valued higher but not enough to get an equal B1G check after they'd slice a pie into 18 or 20 units instead of 16 and have to pay the original 16 more than they're already getting, and the other 2 have drawn good numbers with recent semi-regular appearances in the Top 25 & bowl games. The GOR stuff would explain that.

Good point. I also wonder if there’s an issue because of inventory and sellable tv hours / ad slots due to it being a 10 team league at the moment. I have long theorized they should have expanded then negotiated the deal but they went the other way around.

I think, and I could be wrong, but I think you could have nixed anything to do with Middleton and just said $40m was your horizon

I'd forgotten the level of message board smack in the Big 12.

Probably just a “posting by dictation” thing.

My wife spoke the name “Rooster Cogburn” (a character in an old movie) in a text message last year and it came through as “Rooster Cock Porn”. The text was to her dad. His reply was: “Interesting”. She looked at the entire chain an hour later and was mortified. Yikes!

Would suck to take that job, then have the PAC12 dissolve a month later

Accountants usually are the last to leave when a company goes under.

This week felt kind of quiet…might not be the case next week.
