Eric Bien(i)emy's next job speculation, shut out again

You're probably right about the Andy Reid factor. Just ask Sean McDermott. Or John Harbaugh. Or Matt Nagy.

Or Pat Shurmer. Doug Pederson. Leslie Frazier. Ron Rivera. Steve Spagnuolo. Brad Childress.

So many people not getting chances because of their association with Andy Reid.
The "Andy Reid Factor" that people refer to is the theory that Any Reid is an offensive genius and the true mastermind behind KC's offensive success. The bolded names were defensive/special teams coaches with Reid and therefore aren't affected by this factor. The failure of the other names to be successful head coaches(DP being the only exception) is what leads people to believe the Andy Reid Factor could be major reason why EB isn't getting a chance.

Yep. We know that we need to give a ton of credit for KC's success to Mahomes, Reid and the GM. It's hard to convince me that any offensive coach able to build a good relationship with Mahomes wouldn't look awesome as the OC there. Therefore, for EB to get a HC job he has to nail the interview and convince the team that he's the man by laying out a compelling vision. Doesn't appear he's been able to do that, but he's gotten more than enough interview practice at this point that there's no excuse not to nail them.

I really had no idea about EB’s ability to shoot the **** as he would need to do in an interview until I heard him on the Tucker podcast prior to him bolting. EB is very well-spoken, he is humble, and impressive.

He's obviously not answering the questions to project what he needs to, though. Whatever that is, he's missing the mark.

Slightly off topic, but when JE and EB came to CU to coach I thought it was going to be EB as HC and JE as the assistant. Does anyone think their fortunes would have been different if it would have went down that way?

No neither was ready and the situation was a disaster.

That job would have been hard for an experienced successful coach.

New Bears GM came from KC. Didn’t hire EB as HC. Called previous KC colleague in Indy. Got somebody from their staff.

Shoould be interesting. Flores says he was told before interview that position had been filled.

add: on ESPN, Fores said he hoped others would join his lawsuit. EB?
If Miami tanked games or he was induced to tank games, the criminal laws about point shaving could come into play.

This is a seminal suit for the League.

I dont know anything about point shaving laws but wouldnt the dolphins need to have bet on the games and then win those bets due to the point shaving? Sorry for my ignorance.

It’s a good point. I’ll look. That’s why I say “could”.

so how many of EB's interviews have been the shams described by Flores?

Honestly, I think the only mark he's missing is more time as a coordinator. There's always going to be Sean mcvay, Matt rhule, and mike tomlin like coaches who get hired with little cfb head coach or nfl/cfb coordinator experience but there's just as many who put in 5+ years as a coordinator before getting their chance. EB has 6 total with 4 at the pro level. Will I be surprised if he doesn't get the chance within 3 years? Absolutely. Am I surprised he isn't a coach already? The nfl is as cutthroat as it gets, so no, not really

Point shaving to assist gambling is a federal crime. Netflix has a "Bad Sport" episode about the 1994 ASU point shaving scandal, with people going tp prison. That whole series, I thought was great. The marijuana guy was incredible. I don't know what law would apply, if an owner was paying to throw games - he wanted them to outright lose, winning by a smaller margin wouldn't get you in a better draft position. A season ticket holder might start a class-action for fraud, etc

I think you are right. I read law. It has to go with gambling which was not at play in alleged Miami case, nor now the alleged Cleveland case.

Both bad, if true. League should act decisively if evidence warrants.

Criminal consequences and integrity of the richest sports league in the world consequences are separate. Even if Ross’ behavior wasn’t designed to bolster a gambling operation’s position, a) it is irrelevant because game integrity comes into question and b) it looks bad because he is tied to a sports betting operation as an investor.

I believe flores. But it will be difficult to prove. Still don't understand why he was fired in Miami. Also how can EB or flores be passed over for some of the job openings.

Sounds like Flores was fired because he’s an ***hole...his players and assistant coaches didn’t like him.

Miami drafted a QB with the 3rd overall pick. The guy improved the team and was on the verge of making a push for the playoffs. Why was he fired? Those Bill Belicheck text messages wil be presented to the court. They may even look for more text messages. Why would you conduct an interview after you already hired someone?

What I am hearing is the coaches and players did like him. He clashed with the owner. He is also a finalist for the Texans job. But that one is a sham. They have already secretly given the job to a high school coach. Maybe with the public spotlight, they will do some backtracking.

“There were plenty of players who liked and admired Flores, and let’s be clear about that. But his arrogance and bristling personality rubbed some the wrong way. A close associate of multiple young Dolphins said the players complained to him that ‘he doesn’t understand dealing with men. He’s not approachable.’ When Flores saw one young player in recent months, he told him: ‘Don’t come to my office talking about playing time.’ The player had no such intentions. But multiple sources said he treated players different ways; a veteran such as Jason McCourty wouldn’t be treated with that same heavy hand. ‘He was stern with some but joked around with some guys,’ the source said. ‘It was hard to read him.’”

The owner, GM and some players/staff didn’t like Flores...and to be honest he probably should have been fired when the dolphins started 1-7.

You just described 99% of coaches. He treats the young players different from vets. Oh the horror!!

So you’re contention is that the giants called Bill Belicik to tell him who they were hiring? Before anyone else knew? My guess is Bill probably heard that or assumed that but either way unless the giants directly told him with a paper trail i don’t know how you prove it.

EB is interviewing for the New Orleans job. I still think the Saints go internal with the hire.
Really hope that EB gets a chance to show what he can do.

The problem is that most coaching openings are less than perfect situations. Saints have a major QB question and some big cap problems.

Agree that they probably go internal but at this point with as long as he has been on the "list" EB can't afford to be picky. He is going to have to take any offer he gets no matter how tough a job it is.

NFC South is wide open, so I don't think the Saints job is that bad of a situation. As long as you believe in the GM and ownership, I think you eagerly take that opportunity.
