Peterson complaining isn’t a good look, IMO. Don’t play a garbage OOC schedule and don’t lose to ASU. I also like how he pumps up UW by saying they been at or above average. Lol
With respect, I have a hard time believing this quote is from Chris Peterson. The only place I've seen this is on that random guys twitter feed. I don't see any reference to an actual media link and cannot find anything in Seattle news reporting about this quote.
The language seems off as well. I can't believe he would say these things. If he did then fine but until I see a link I am doubtful that came from Coach Peterson.
Look, it is what it is. The Huskies lost a close game to ASU. They are not undefeated and will frankly need help to get into the playoffs.
Further, we have yet to play a single game of November football. There is way too many games left to play. UW needs to worry about Oregon this week and the rest of the games this month. If, and this is a big if, they win out... then we can ponder about who is deserving. If they don't make it they don't. As a Husky fan I'm just thrilled to have a great coach and good team again.
ESPN was giving UW a mini smear job earlier in October so I'm guessing somebody put this out there to further belittle UW. The ex-players from the Big X in particular seem to have an axe to grind.
There is only so much you can do with scheduling. When Rutgers was scheduled they were two years removed from a Conference Championship team (Big East). Who knew that as of Nov 1st Rutgers would have a better record than Florida St? You just really never know when games are scheduled in advance. Wisconsin did chicken out of a series but the first game of that one was scheduled for next year.
I remember all too well when the Huskies were in the Willingham years that they were scheduling OOC way too difficult. UW was one of the final 4 teams in the NCAA who had never played a football FCS opponent until a few years ago. Now they seem to have an SEC style cupcake OOC and they're called on it when they still play 9 conference games?
Whatever. When you lose you don't control your own fate. There is nothing to complain about.
Some of the teams ranked higher have better OOC opponents. Some don't. I don't think personally that Penn St's OOC is any harder. Ohio St. played OU but that really is a "quality" loss if we're going there. Who has Oklahoma St beat? I have a hard time with the Big 10 love over Pac 12 love on ESPN when historically the conference champions meet in the Rose Bowl and the Pac wins 2 of 3 of those games over the past few decades. Many of the ESPN analysts are players from the Big and they begrudge the Pac for some reason. I know Desmond Howard is still hurt about getting so thoroughly humiliated when playing against UW and losing to them in the Rose Bowl some time ago. I simply don't watch ESPN anymore.
Anyway, who really cares about the first rankings? UW doesn't have anything to complain about at this time. And quite frankly they've suffered far too many serious injuries IMO to make much noise in the playoffs. They're down their best linemant (LT) for the year, they've lost both starting cornerbacks, their top two TEs and a couple receivers. While they have depth they're lost too much offense to make a huge run IMO. The defense is nasty and fun to watch, and that is what many of us UW older timers appreciate - dominant Ds.
I hope a Pac team can with the national title soon, because until they do they will continue to be perceived as a weak conference.
