First CFP Rankings

Something to consider about Washington...

( if the season ended today they simply would not deserve a chance at being in the playoffs and I'll be the first to say it )

This week their defense gained the #1 ranking for top defense in the country.

And when you factor out pick 6s (opponent points from the UW offense), the UW defense is giving up fewer than 9 points per game so far this year.

All of this means nothing.

UW needs to win out to even have a chance, and that is still a long shot at best.

But, if they do, and if their D is still ranked #1, I would live to see the top rated D in the playoffs.

I want to see an 8 team playoff, but there is sure going to be fireworks with this years selection, especially if ND wins out. Do conference championships really matter?

It doesn't appear so with the conference championships. Good points on Washington. Hell, even Wisconsin isn't getting much of a chance if they win out. Oh well, alot of football to go. No telling what will happen.

UW moves up at least two more spots if they beat Stanford-The ND-UM loser is done, as is the TCU-OU loser. You gotta remember that if USC wins out-that's a shot at a top 10 opponent, and if WSU wins Saturday, you're going to get a chance to play against a top 15 opponent. Do you need help still? Probably. You need Auburn to beat either Georgia or Alabama. This looks like the one year we've had with this system where we're bound to have somebody pissed off next month.

Washington's hopes really improved in the span of six hours on Saturday....They go from 12th and not having much of a shot last week to 9th and potentially two shots at ranked opponents the last two weeks of the season. I think Georgia might be in trouble this weekend-Auburn might be the first team who MIGHT be good enough to take the run away from them.
USC shot up, too. Pac-12 lost 2 ranked teams but its teams at the top grabbed a clear path. USC is only behind Auburn from among the 2-loss teams.

Is it catastophic for the B1G if Iowa wins?
Wisconsin could still end up winning the Big and only have one loss, but their resume won’t be strong enough to beat out any other one loss team, so yeah, Big would be right there with the Pac needing a ton of help if they lose to Iowa.

Btw, I’ll be at that game this weekend. Have to miss the SC game but super pumped. Rivalry game at Camp Randall is going to be dope!

Completely agree. I don't think I disagree with anything you said

Have a blast!

One thing to keep in mind about ND if they win out is how much ground will they lose sitting idle on the last weekend while other contenders are playing their conference championship games.

If they do win out, and they get left out (I'm not sure that happens, but suppose it does) - do they finally cave and join a conference? If you're a conference that plays a 9 game schedule (B1G, B12 & P12), do you give that up and go to an 8 game schedule in order to accommodate ND?

I think the ACC is the front runner to get them anyway, which would leave the 9 game question moot, but... it does make for interesting speculation.

Yup, that could be the impetus that finally gets ND to join a conference.

If they join a conference before 2027 it can only be the ACC according to the current deal they have in place with the ACC.

unless they want to give up their TV rights.

Or unless the GoR gets challenged in court and shot down (note, none of the conferences' GoRs have yet been challenged in court -- until that happens, they're all suspect, IMO).

A part of me still thinks ND to end up in the B1G after the next round of realignment.

God I hate to say this but should we root for Miami this weekend to knock off Notre Dame and then hope Miami loses to Clemson in the ACC champ game?

I say this in hopes that the playoff consists of:
Bama/Georgia
Clemson
Washington
Oklahoma/TCU

Not that I give a damn because I have Nebraska type hate for ND. I always figured they'd end up in the B1G once realignment started up given all the history with some of the teams in it. ACC would be pretty cool for them too though. Miami, Clemson, and FSU games are pretty attractive.
