Games thread- MEN'S BBall opens season hosting Eastern Washington (Mon., 11/4/24; 7:00 PM MT; ESPN+) and No. Colorado (Friday, 7:00 PM MT; ESPN+)

Oh, and ESPN+ commercial breaks are gonna make me miss the P12 Network by game 4 at the latest.

Need more PGs.

Looking around the Big 12... wow. Everyone blew out their opponent except UCF., who barely squeaked by #13 aTm. #8 Baylor vs #5 Gonzaga tipping in about a half hour. Hope to see a **** bailer win because that's the type of result with what else is going on that could make the Big 12 a 10-bid league this year.

Tad: “Not sure I’ve ever been more disappointed with a win in my career.” He said the altitude got EWU in the second half and if not for that we’d have had 26 turnovers.

Tad: “We gotta get better.” He isn’t happy.

I’m absolutely giddy that I don’t have to watch the blue screen alternating between the mountains and the ocean while the dramatic music plays for 1:30 at every break

Some nice pieces on this team. But we don't have a lead guard and when teams apply pressure we fall apart. Id kill for frosh McKinley right now. Tads trying to fit these puzzle pieces together but he's missing the ****in corner pieces.

It's not a good sign when in the post game tad says he had no idea who to start out of 11 guys and the starting lineup he used was terrible. And our supposed starting PG played so badly he was benched to start the 2d half.

Things I liked: rancik (he can shoot and he's got moxie), Baskin (he's gonna have trouble against plus athletes but he fights and makes **** happen), Raj (he physically belongs and he's not a walking turnover).

Things that worried me: diop and Dak: 0 development shown.

Well that was nuts. Baskin and Racik are the real deal. Ruffin is a fighter. RJ Smith might be our clutch shooter. Not much of a sample on Malone. Jak is the obvious glue guy. Dak is still raw. Diop and Anderson might be the odd men out. Hammond is asz.

Win-o-Meter:
14

Saw that CU was trailing at the half and was not even worried and now what do you chicken littles have to say after CU won by 20? Were you trying to give Darth a hard on with all that doom and gloom?
Did you even watch the first half?

RJ is just so much better put together than Hammond.

It's hard to believe Hammond has spent four years I'm a college S&C program. He's a skinny fat guy.
Perfect description. He was soft in HS too. Nothing has changed.

@Goose was right all offseason. We have absolutely no PG. I had slight hopes that Hammond would show some improvement, but he seemed to regress.
This was the most disappointing 20 point win I've ever seen. Eastern Washington was terrible and they should have beaten us.
I'm going to have nightmares tonight thinking about the conference games. Houston might beat us by 50. I would press this team all day long. We might have some 30 turnover games.

First 15 minutes of that game was about as bad as the Buffs have ever played. Woof. The altitude did get to EW in the 2nd half, and the Buffs also played a hell of a lot better as well.

Their record may not be all that good this season, but I think the Buffs could be a likeable team that will be a lot of fun to root for.

Why didn’t crawford play? Any chance he’s a significant contributor when he plays? Would be great for him to be a top 8 guy.

Tad said the altitude really got them in the 2nd half - big factor. I don't think we would have lost, but:

"Thank God they got tired and they were playing at altitude. Otherwise, it would have been a loss for us, but our guys finally woke up defensively. We got some stops, strung some stuff together and got out in transition.”

I don’t know if I fully agree with 0 development from Dak and Diop. Dak hit that three in transition that really swung momentum and Dion is a great middle man when we press / had some nice drives just didn’t finish. consistency in aggression from them will be key

Fair. But they both looked lost and tentative fir most of their time on the floor. Some bad bad TOa

I was texting with JG (who used to post here) and he was frantically trying to find out the most turnovers we have had under Tad in a single game.

In case you want to track it this season, it’s 24.

I’m high on Rancik. He’s fun.

That's a real pick your poison of recency or primacy bias for making sense of what that game says about this team.

I think uneven performances early on are to be expected given the roster turnover.

I'm not sure if I'm encouraged or disappointed by the spread of scoring from so many guys. Nice to see a lot of guys can get a few buckets, but also need a go to option to emerge.

We all know Tad will do a lot of experimenting early in the season. I expect we will see different lineups early on.

Can we let Ruffin run the point or are we worried about overtaxing him? Would love to see a closing lineup of Malone, Dak, Rancik, Baskin, Ruffin. Could be a defensive menace with all the length if they learn how to play team defense.

If this team is going to win some BIG 12 games this year it is going to have to be what most consider ugly basketball, games in the 50s. Although if we win Tad would consider it beautiful.
