If you were RG, what facilities project would you prioritize?

Which facilities project would you prioritize?

  • Option A (Folsom & CEC)

  • Option B (Creek & Kitt)

Results are only viewable after voting.
Whether it is Crocs or Amazon or whomever, has anyone held RG's feet to the fire as to what we are asking for or why things have never ever happened during the most righteous period in the stadium? 2 years of sellouts and you cannot get a naming rights deal of some type to add some cash to the AD, talk about lost opportunity
It’s a complete joke and would be grounds for dismissal if he were leading a company with a profit motive

Simply no excuse

A major company isn’t paying what they are likely asking for naming rights of Folsom without knowing if the driving factor of exposure is even going to be here next year? I wouldn’t be surprised if naming rights were contingent on locking up Prime with the extension.

United Airlines. Major hub in Denver, they are the airline used for the program and they already had the NIL deal with Travis.

But you already have the exposure value of Big12 TV rights to factor in.
It may sound cheap, but $1M per year for 15 years is still a good thing for the University even if it is low, so with 6-7 home games on National TV for 3 hours at a time and with the stadium mentioned over and over, the value is there.

I will stop with the wild speculation, but someone needs to ask a tougher question about whether they have tried or have been turned down, or if there is hesitation about naming rights since it is called Folsom Field and thus you have to wordsmith the name, but Folsom Field at CROCS Stadium is not the worst possible option.

The Big 12 is a tier 2 college football conference and CU would likely be middle of the pack in viewers within that conference (which is pretty bad) if Prime wasn’t here.

Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota -- what other power conference schools with on campus stadiums have corporate naming deals?

Why isn't this more common?

Maybe there's a good reason CU isn't doing it. I'm honestly not clear on this.

Washington is Alaska Airlines Field at Husky Stadium. I’m sure there are more than those four, but I would also guess that stadium naming rights aren’t that common in CFB because the top programs only get 4-5m viewers/game on average and the majority get fewer than 1m/game on average. The $$$ likely isn’t good enough for most programs to cover up the tradition and history of their stadium with a corporate logo. I also think when your football program is bringing in $35m-$80m/year in TV revenue alone, is an extra $1m/year worth it?

Wake, Syracuse, GT and Vanderbilt are a few others that have naming rights.

GT's agreement with Hyundai is for $55 million over 20 years.

Hell, the LA Coliseum is technically "United Airlines Field at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum" for USC games.

The deal was originally $69 mil over 16 years, but there was kerfuffle over the name. The deal was reduced to 10 years, and I don't believe final terms were released.

Naming rights aren't a total game changer or anything, but the money is significant. It's not unreasonable at all to think that we can add $2.5M per year to football resources and $500k per year for our court sports via naming rights to Folsom and the Keg. Much less but still useful would be naming rights on the East Campus facilities to give a lift to field sports budgets.

...
I don't believe any of these are on-campus, which seems to be significant in these naming rights deals. I think that being off-campus and inside a metro area -- where the stadium gets sigfnicantly more viewing from people other than poor college students -- is a big factor. @RumblinBuff , same for USC.

That's a good point. UW's is on-campus, but their Seattle campus is uniquely in a major city, and has occasionally hosted other events. Same with ASU, USC. I'm kind of surprised Utah hasn't followed suit.

Are they stuck in a loop where they know they want to do West Side improvements and there could be a big donor or other naming rights associated with that, so they made a choice to set it aside and wait on that process? If there is a bigger fish involved in that, maybe it makes sense.

Utah might be in a weird situation with the local olympic committee having paid for the most recent expansion/upgrade.

Syracuse, GT and Vandy are on campus and Wake's is only about a mile from campus where they have all the athletic facilities

To me it's obvious Amazon should pay up and name it (Amazon) Prime Stadium. Amazon does the Coach Prime series and with Coach Prime here now, it seems great synergy. Amazon is broadcasting football now. Hell, they could make the stadium name term contingent on how long Coach Prime is at CU.

I know this has been discussed a long time ago, but is Prime and the Football Team happy about how the Champions Center and the IPF has the track around it and we do not have a full Indoor Football Field? When you watch them practice, it feels awkward to not have a full field, especially when the QB's are throwing to the WR's. I wish we had a few Million Dollars to build an indoor field/track Building over on East Campus that would then allow us to turn the IPF into a full Football Field? Not a big deal, but something that would be nice.

Im reasonably sure the IPF has a full size football field. It’s the track that’s small.

There are no full endzones in there. There is no deep corner that can be thrown in there, and the track comes fast on the outside of the field. If there was no track, then it would be a very large and spectacular building. Also, all the track stuff is over on East Campus.
