Next to hearing a comet is going to destroy earth though. Right?
I forgot what the negative meltdowns around here looked like. How did this place survive the last 10 years?!?
Huh? Who thought that?Everybody there thought Brady hoke was a slam dunk hire too. Hope it blows up similar to that.
I think one dude on the Scout/Rivals board was obsessed with him because he was a great recruiter and wouldn't listen to anyone else. Other than that no one.Huh? Who thought that?
JL tweeted some sort of "Thanks for the memories" tweet but the school and Mac are not saying anything. This is beginning to sound like one of those awkward moment things. Mac, according to KOA, is going to address something "later today." I'd love to know how all this went down but doubt if we'll ever know the whole story.wihtout reading the 13 pages since I last posted, has Leavitt confirmed thsi to the university or twittersphere yet?
Yes. Remember, Mac moved Baer along because Baer was not accomplishing what Mac wanted. So Mac definitely has a vision of what he wants the D to look like. All I'm saying is that it's possible that much of the improvement was going to happen given we were going from playing underclassmen to upperclassmen (with some experience) and that we were poised to go from some of the worse DBs to some of the best. And that DB development was very evident each year he's been here. That is a position group I know something about. And we were getting much better before Jim Leavitt entered.
It's also a fact that HCMM decided pre-Leavitt to go another direction with the front 7.. He brought in a guy who knew how to run that from a scheme point. And I also think Jim L is a great motivator and leader (and I've said this many times).
But I also think that HCMM knows defense, has the front seven system now in place that Leavitt brought over along with the blitz packages etc, that combined with what I feel is the top secondary coaching in the CFB game (and that won't change), we can move on without Leavitt. With the right guy, this is a system now that survives any one assistant. This happens all the time where a coordinator leaves, and the next guy does just as good. Sometimes change after change.
I think it's now a system at CU and JMFL helped put it in place, but HCMM is a smart Defensive guy himself. This is what he's been trying to get to from the dog **** he inherited.
It was a great run with Leavitt, but you can't blame the man for taking advantage of his opportunities to provide for his family in the twilight of his career.
You had me right up to this point. His family is more than provided for. I don't blame him for tripling his salary.
yeah...i have to admit that was kinda sappy... **** him and **** bailer.
seriously though...i could see JL finishing out his career as a highly paid DC at UO, or moving back into a DC position in the NFL in a few years. he just doesn't strike me as the kind of man who enjoys the media spotlight, glad-handing, and administrative responsibilities required by a HC at the NCAA-D1 level. He's a defensive coach/coordinator...end of story.
From everyone that would be in the know on this topic, JL absolutely wants to be a HC again.
I'm guessing I'm not the only one who took note of Leavitt's casual omission of thanking his head coach, or any coach for that matter, in his farewell tweet. Said thanks to alums, fans, players. No one else. That's interesting to me.JL tweeted some sort of "Thanks for the memories" tweet but the school and Mac are not saying anything. Don't let it break your heart. It's only football. This news broke my heart, we just lost a great coach
Really interested to learn more about leavitt/mm dynamic, it did seems as they didn't really work together in unity. But damn, going to Oregon feels like a gut punch.
Yeah. The omission was noticeable.I'm guessing I'm not the only one who took note of Leavitt's casual omission of thanking his head coach, or any coach for that matter, in his farewell tweet. Said thanks to alums, fans, players. No one else. That's interesting to me.
IMO - it's all about the $, he has proved that already now. So if someone backs up the next truck? He's gone. From everyone that would be in the know on this topic, JL absolutely wants to be a HC again.
Not saying that we cant survive this. Just stating the obvious fact that we lost a big piece.
JL wanted to be the HC at CU. He was putting himself in position to assume that responsibility if HCMM were to be fired. That dynamic in itself creates tension between the two. The team performed beyond anyones expectations this year, especially the defense. I am sure that JL realized that, in large part due to the success of his defense, that opportunity would not present itself any time soon here. Irrespective of that, getting a guaranteed $1 million raise per year is impossible to turn down. He has no real allegiance to this school. I do not understand the vitriol being spit at a guy that took a job and did his job excellently for a school we love, and then took that opportunity. Not one single poster on this board, if faced with a similar situation, would turn that down.
ONE MILLION PER YEAR more than what you already make
Now how he went about it, that might be an interesting story to here....something tells me there really is no love lost between HCMM and JL
