Official 2016 All-in-One Assistant Coaches Compendium Thread - hagan in, bernardi to te, adams ol -

That's how I've felt about it. But maybe the problem a lot of times at places like USC is that they spend too much time and money chasing big name hires who make a splash in the LA Times and then those guys bring too much ego to have a functional coaching staff. Seems to me that they might be getting back to fundamentals (blocking & tackling, as they say) while figuring that USC pretty much markets and recruits itself when they're winning.

Heck, a drunken Palazzo (is there any other kind?) could sign a Top 25 class to USC. So there's something to that strategy if they look like an in sync, well-coached team this coming season.
FIFY Clancy at U$C? How long before "Legend in his own Mind" Pendergast PO's the rest of the staff?

"Long snap coach"
"Kick holder coach"
"Fake punt coach"
"Hands team coach"
"Squib/pooch/drop/coffin corner/onside/rugby kick coach"
"Go for two coach"
No wonder our special teams has been so bad lately. We haven't had nearly enough coaches!

In the realm of things that make you go Hmmm, local sports guys have brought up Brady Hoke as a possible DC candidate at Oregon. Not sure that I get that one. Might turn out great but he's never been a coordinator.

Dumb. Very dumb. Not a bad guy to have as an assistant coach (very good recruiter), but the guy is not who you want coordinating and game planning.

Pendergast back at USC as DC, as discussed earlier.

And a big deal for UCLA we'll likely know about tomorrow:

Now Feldman saying has accepted, and is taking his son with him:

Also thought this was funny for multiple reasons:

Are we totally done with changes? I think we did what we had to do, but was hoping for more. O-line is one of the (maybe the only) position groups where you can take c talent and make something good out of it with coaching. That is obviously not happening. Would have loved to see a change there.

Not necessarily, the AFCA is this weekend and we definitely know by now that MM likes to keep these things close to the vest. If nothing else has happened two weeks from now, I would probably think it's done.

Looks like wickline to West Virginia.

Their current OL coach is Ron Crook who was at Stanford before WVU. Fans responding to the Wickline rumors find it interesting because they thought Crook was doing a good job with the OL. I would not mind at all if this is who we hired to replace Bernardi.

Coaching convention starts today. Dead period ends on Thursday. News of new hire(s) could trickle out this week.

It looks like the funeral was over probably Saturday night.

Maybe he caught an early Sunday flight down to San Antonio. Here is the schedule.

On monday he'll have a chance to attend this session:
Intl. SessionDan Hawkins, USA Football Senior Team 8:00AM 11:15AM

Uhhh what? Football comes before the death of one's father?
This will obviously be unpopular, but to do a degree, yes?

Bereavement is a lengthy process, but it doesn't supplant other obligations. I'm not insensitive to the pain of losing a parent, having first hand experience, as many of us do. But what does "as much time as he and his family need" mean, specifically? It's a critical time in an important, and high-paying position. He needs to grieve, certainly, but that is not incompatible with doing one's job effectively.

How many Marines, Sailors, soldiers and Airmen miss the birth of their child, the loss of a loved one through deployments? Most who have served a career can claim missing such an event.

coworker lost her mother over the weekend. she will be back on Thursday. HCMM has a job to do.

Some tact is definitely required, but the reality is the schedule is pretty tight from Thursday all the way through signing day. Keep in mind MacIntyre still has most/all of his in-home visits to conduct with both committed and uncommitted prospects. He might be able to get away for a day or two when he travels south. Hopefully he can take a little more time between signing day and Spring practices.
