Official 2016 Coaching Carousel Thread - How safe is Kevin Sumlin´s job?

Syracuse: Sources tell FootballScoop that Ohio State defensive coordinator Chris Ash is a strong candidate for the head coaching position at Syracuse. Ash has served as co-defensive coordinator at Ohio State the past two seasons, as DC at Arkansas in 2013 and at Wisconsin in 2011 & 2012. We have not heard a timetable for a decision and were told earlier today that other candidates were still in the process.

Scott Frost apparently chose UCF over Syracuse.

At first glance, looks like a good hire by UCF. We will see who he brings in as a DC.

Saw a tweet saying Butch David might want Leavitt as DC if he gets the Miami job and had talked to him in 2014 about doing so but JL is under contract next year so doubt that happens.

Really surprised Strong didn't get the full court press from Miami to leave Texas.

Because Miami can't afford the buyout? Not sure if you're serious...

Well Miami doesn't have a ton of money but no not because of that, I just don't see Leavitt leaving for a similar position somewhere else. He seems way committed.

Pretty smart for a cornholer.

Ill venture that UCF has two things going for it that Syracuse doesn't; massively more fertile recruiting grounds AND much more relaxed admittance and academic requirements. So yeah, that makes him a pretty smart cornholer.

If he does well maybe we hire him for our next coach. Though I think the NU will circle the wagons and make another home town hero when Riley's time is up and get him first. He seems like a rising star.

Uh, money? I suspect that Davis wants him hell come up with the money to buy Leavitt out.

IF Leavitt wants to go that should be a warning to us all. Frankly, I dont think he'll go but he'd win faster at The U and get back to a head coaching gig there then he will if he stays here. I think he also knows he's likely the coach in waiting here once the string runs out for the current HC.

Leavitt is a very genuine guy. From the reponses given by the recruits he has been visiting and contacting recently he is solid Buffs and if he was looking I don't think that would be the case.

Frost won't be the next kNU coach because Riley isn't going to last long enough for him to get his feet wet as a HC. Short of a shocking turn around next season (9 or more wins plus) the Riley experiment in stinkoln will be a short one. Frost could very well be the guy who follows the guy though.

Missouri people think there's a secret candidate who will be a 'home run'.Their DC under pinkel, Odom, appears to be the leading candidate at Memphis.

Edit: the meeting between Odom and the Memphis AD reportedly became contentious. Odom may not be entirely sure he won't get Missouri.

Was on the local radio shows this morning. I think it's a good hire. From everything I hear around Oregon, Frost is highly respected within the program.

Could argue that Oregon took a step backwards this year as it is. These aren't the Chip Kelly Ducks anymore. How much does losing Frost add to their potential decline?

When Vernon Adams was healthy and playing, there was no decline. As per usual, it comes down to the players on the field.

I'm not sure. You could argue that Frost actually did an amazing job this year incorporating Adams into their offense and getting things going very well by the end of the season. The big issues for the Ducks are on the defensive side of the ball, however.

They had a crazy amount of injuries in the defensive back field. That was the issue there.

ducks were basically playing a all freshman secondary....wish we were 9-3 in a "down" year with a win over stanford to boot

Of course they took a step back. They didn't have Marcus Mariota. Then, to compound that, they lost a RB and then they lost their starting WRs for a while and then they had their starting QB play hurt or miss games.

Without the rash of injuries, I think Oregon would have actually absorbed the loss of Mariota and have been playing this week to win the Pac-12 & go to the playoff. Which is insanely good.

If Leavitt waits until after Jan. 1, 2016 there is no buyout as I understand the contract. $500,000 before that.

Dan Hawkins and Bobby Hauck have applied for the Montana St. gig. Can Dan lead Montana St. to a loss against a local HS in their opener? Stay tuned.
UBL/RK alert:

If you can't beat them, join them. He'll likely be applying for every other job outside Texas Tech, as well.
