Official 2016 Coaching Carousel Thread - How safe is Kevin Sumlin´s job?

Dykes and Bobo in the mix for Mizzou, either one would suit me fine. Actually, I think either would be a fairly good choice for Mizzou. I do not see what others see in Calhoun. Wells I don't know much about.

If they got Dykes out of Cal and keep Bobo at CSU that would be perfect.

Dan Hawkins and Bobby Hauck have applied for the Montana St. gig. Can Dan lead Montana St. to a loss against a local HS in their opener? Stay tuned.

They'd both do well there. In the right situation and at the right level, both were very successful HCs.

mizzery would do well hiring dykes. and he wouldn't have to worry about those pesky academic standards and inconvenient rules and such.

bobo can't get out of fort flatlands fast enough, but he's probably got a year left on his sentence.

calhoun would be a gift to the rest of sec.

The Scott Frost news is good for us-it essentially ensures Leavitt is staying here. I don't see him leaving for another coordinator gig-he's gotta know he's gonna get a crack at this HC gig if it opens next year. I feel like I can say this and not sound as ridiculous as I did when I said we should re-hire "Voldemort" Watson as OC.......If we have to make change next year, I'd feel A LOT better going with Leavitt than Matt Wells, Troy Calhoun, or any other G5 coach or P5 coordinator, and I'd venture to guess that a fair amount of my fellow posters would agree.

As far as Georgia, Kirby Smart is a bad move IMO. I'm not saying the guy isn't a good coach, but Georgia reached. This is just a guess-but I think they wanted Dan Mullen, and he said no. If he doesn't win 10 games at least next year, heads are going to roll in Athens.

The Missouri situation is getting fascinating-if they're talking to Mike Bobo, either something has gone horribly wrong with their search or the racism stuff is a major problem for them. Again, another guess here, but I think they wanted Matt Campbell and thought he'd magically blow off Iowa State because they're Iowa State to go to Columbia.

I pull for Air Force in football. I like Calhoun, and I'd hate to see him leave. He's got a ton of security down there, and he seems like he's gotten that thing back on the right track after the bad year two years ago. Wondering if its turning into a Gonzaga-they'll be solid for the most part no matter who the head guy is. Doubt if Calhoun did leave that he'd take the option with him.....he did leave Gary Kubiak and the Texans for Air Force, so I'd bet he'd try to run a Shanahan type system.

8-4 at Air Force is really good coaching. Plus he's high integrity. That's impressive to me.

Can't see what Bobo's done so far. Seems like he is qualified and I'd say his 1 year as a HC went pretty good, so that takes some risk out of it. But still not ready for a gig like Mizzou.

Dykes to Mizzou makes the most sense. Mizzou wants to recruit TX, Dykes is a long time Texan, his dad coached at TT. Nice fit. Bobo clearly wants to go anywhere but Ft. Fun. SC, Maryland? IDK.

I'm not sure. You could argue that Frost actually did an amazing job this year incorporating Adams into their offense and getting things going very well by the end of the season. The big issues for the Ducks are on the defensive side of the ball, however.

Sitting among Duck fans in Folsom this season, to a person they all thought the DC should have been canned two years ago.

And where is the new Duck OC going to come up with a QB? Adams was a SR and his backups didn't exactly light any fires.

Dykes would be a huge flop at Mizzou IMO. Do not get the interest on Mizzou's side there.

That might be another big loss for Bama. Might really be time for Saban to try the NFL out again.

Cochran is best in what "business"? Pushing HGH on all those 'Bama players? Linemen come in there after redshirting in jr. high and HS at 295 and leave at 335!

Hard to separate the "talent" from the "substances" down there. If the NCAA ever insisted on testing for HGH in players , the SEC might become human again.

FWIW, Texas Tech let three defensive assistants go yesterday. Guess year one under Gibbs did not go smoothly.

Would be interesting. I think his style of offense would work with their current personnel (at least from my last impression of Pinkel offenses). Defensively, he would need a very very talented DC, since his teams are usually pretty bad on D, to put it mildly.

Mark Few has been at Gonzaga for 16 years, and has made 16 tournaments. In their century of basketball prior, Gonzaga made the NCAA tournament exactly twice. Monson played a part, no doubt, but Gonzaga certainly hasn't been solid regardless of head coach.

That said, I agree with you all other points, like Calhoun, and hope he stays.

He made his power play this offseason. Guy who had the Co-DC title was fired among the others.

Agree with you.

The success of Sparkles at UF has to help him though. The athletics world loves to copy success and what Sparkles did in terms of cleaning up the Gators mess has to at least get Bobo a look, especially since his path looks a lot like Sparkles, SEC Coordinator to CSU.

I don't think the end result is going to be the same but that won't stop someone from trying to copy. Don't think CSU would mind to much since they would make more on the buyout than they make from their conference media share.

Jeff Tedford resigns from the CFL gig he had to pursue college coaching opportunities. Something is in the works.....JT was a dark horse I had for the CU job IF, and I realize how unlikely it is now, MikMac were not retained. I think he is a good get for somebody in the P12, but who knows, it will be interesting to watch.

I'd put my money on Hauck, he has a bit of history/roots in the state of MT.

Football coach Sonny Dykes, who brought Cal from nowhere to 7-5 in three years, is history. He'll sign as new coach of Mizzou shortly.
