Official 2016 Coaching Carousel Thread - How safe is Kevin Sumlin´s job?

Leavitt's career is hardly ruined.

College career. And not now. But physically assaulting a student athlete, as was alleged, banished him to the NFL only after he was fired. Winning his lawsuit against USF helped rejuvenate him. MM hiring him, and I am sure the vetting was intense, also upped his stock.

I suspect he could be a college head coach again pretty soon.

I like MM as a person, and maybe as a coach (remains to be seen). But I know that I love JL as a coach (seeing what he did at his former school) and want him over MM. It is an issue on how you do that. Best hope is that we suck bad at the first of the year and JL runs the show the rest of the year, then is offered the job. Or goes to Meeechigan and then comes back after MM is fired.

It sucks, to know that the best coach we have will be poached eventually, or have to suck more to do the change. Not a lot of win in there. Like the last ten plus years.

I'm happy that RichRod is staying at the U of A. They are going to get progressively worse while he's there.

Damn, looks like Sonny Cumbie is turning down $1 million offer to be Bevo's umpteenth OC in the last 5 years. He's probably getting promoted to being the sole OC at TCU but I doubt its for a million bucks. May have decided staying with the stability at TCU is better for his long term prospects at a head coaching gig than joining a Charlie Strong administration that will likely be out if they don't show significant progress next year. He'll likely be HC candidate in a year or two if the TCU offense can continue to produce without Boykin.

Looks like Texas is going with Sterlin Gilbert, co-OC at Tulsa, as the backup candidate. He previously coached under Dino Babers at Bowling Green, so another branch off Baylor's offensive system.

BYU is rumored to be 'strongly considering' Ken Niumatolo (sp?). The option at BYU seems counterintuitive.
That would be a great football hire. It would be a terrible scheduling hire in that it would make it more difficult to find teams willing to play them. I suppose they could pal around with Air Force - "hey since you're already having to spend extra time preparing to face the option, why don't you get as much as you can out of it by playing two option teams?"

Sterlin Gilbert, that brings back some memories. Cumbie too but his older brother, think his name was Nathan. Sterling played at San Angelo Lake View and the Cumbie's were from Snyder. They were in my district. I knew Cumbie was coaching but I had no idea Sterlin was. Crazy. Sterlin wasn't big but he could throw the rock, he started all 4 years I'm pretty sure. All the Cumbie's were tall as ****. His brother was 6'7" in eighth grade ha ha.

I don't believe he would run the option at BYU.

I'm hearing Sitaki is the lead candidate at BYU. He was Whit's lead recruiter for Poly's in town. If this happens it will hurt Utah.

No. Unlike others I actually try to contribute from time to time and not crap over every thread there is with some pseudo funny bull**** that only serves a circle jerk between me and an old buddy.

Very surprising. 1st, that he'd do it. 2nd, that they want him back after his desperate and public job hunt.

I'm not trying to be funny.

Its not completely clear to me who you are referring to. And its a bit murky to me but I think, think, there are a few that find their tripe funny. Possibly.

Things are winding down:

New Hires
:

Minnesota: Interim HC/DC Tracy Claeys tagged to replace the retiring Jerry Kill
Hawaii: former QB Nick Rolovich gets the gig to replace Chow (h/t nik)
VT: Fuente takes over (h/t Jens)
Illinois: Interim HC Cubit gets a 2 year deal (h/t Jens).
Iowa St.: Matt Campbell from Toledo
USC: Clay Helton gets five year gig
UCF: Scott Frost the new man.
UGA: Kirby Smart (h/t nik)
Maryland: DJ Durkin.
Toledo: Jason Candle.
Miami: Mark Richt ( I think this is a great hire)
UVA: Bronco Mendenhall, out of the blue
Memphis: Mike Norvell, fmr. ASSU OC
Mizzou: DC Barry Odom
UNT: Seth Littrell, fmr UNC WR coach (h/t nik)
Syracuse: Dino Babers, fmr BGSU HC (h/t bombay)
Rutgers: Chris Ash, fmr tOSU DC (h/t onealcd)
USC (east): Will Muschamp, fmr. Auburn DC
BGSU: Mike Jinks is the man

Openings:

Tulane: Curtis Johnson out (The Right Reverend Houston Nutt and Terry Bowden in the mix)
UL_Monroe: Todd Berry fired.
ECU: Ruffin McMuffin out (VT's Shane Beamer and JMU Everett Withers rumors)

Secondary market:

BYU: Bronco Mendenhall goes east, not so young man takes Robert Anae, his BYU OC, among with, so Anae not in the running for BYU HC gig. BYU now talking to UU's Whittingham.

Odds and ends:

UT (because they need their own category) HCCS safe, offering $1MM+ a year to Sonny Cumbie as OC, guaranteed for three years, but Cumbie turns it down, HCCS now after Tony Franklin Cal OC.

Dykes signs extension at Cal.

Sark sues. Probably the end of his college HC prospects, although Leach and Skippy sued and got jobs later, who knows?

Holgerson safe at WVU.

Harbaugh talking to Georgia DC Jeremy Pruitt.

USC talking to Dave Aranda Wiscy DC.

Oregon may take Montana St.'s Tim Cransey on staff, unknown who the OC will be at this point.

Vince Okruch, formerly of CU, most recently of tOSU as defensive quality control and ST, goes to Rutgers as ST.

But but these guys are robbing us blind getting huge non-WAC paychecks. Its unfair i hate this staff because the get paid so much.

Oh wait what it that you say they were never paid above middle of the road and now we are back to last?

BUT BUT NEinas

So every year they win 7 games and the APR is above a certain numebr Dykes gets a year extension? That could be risky.
